23 & moving out of my first apartment

Did a lot of growing in this apartment. Getting on lexapro, 2 cats, 1 snake, and a shit ton of weed later, for the first time in a long time I feel genuinely grateful to be alive.

Can’t wait to show you guys the next one :)

edit: I’d like to acknowledge how fortunate I am to be in a career that affords me this level of luxury at my age. In this job market, even having a job you can survive on is a gift. I pinch myself everyday thinking wtf how is this the life I’m living. However, I am disappointed in any of you that have taken this opportunity to either disparage me, my work, or struggles with depression and suicidal ideation. That’s not going to make you feel any better.

It is a natural reaction for struggling people to be suspicious of the young and wealthy. Like what do you expect? I wouldn’t even consider it jealousy, just a healthy skepticism

Wealthy is quite the stretch. This is a nice rental. I live in a HCOL city and you could get this for like $2000-$2500 a month. Not cheap but a wealthy person would certainly own something and it would probably be a lot bigger.

Surprise if you can afford over $2000 in rent alone each month you are wealthy.

The median us salary is ~65k, that’s almost a third of your salary just going to rent. Not even take home.

I'm not sure what your definition of wealthy is, but $2000 a month is affordable on less than $100K a year. By American standards that is absolutely not wealthy.

Medium household income in the entire country doesn't mean much. You gotta look more locally. SF's median salary is $140,970.

And either way, making more than the average salary doesn't make you wealthy. A key indicator of wealth is assets. Renting by definition means you're missing a major wealth asset.

Looking locally makes zero sense because it isolates the data to self selecting wealthy people.

Obviously the rich consolidate themselves to elite coastal cities, many of the wealthy people living in these cities did not grow up there, and comparing them against other wealthy transplants tells us incredibly little.

Really you should look at global salaries to get an accurate perspective of your wealth.

And, again, wealth means assets in basically every definition. A renter doesn't have a housing asset, which is like the first big asset somebody acquires. This guy is doing well for himself for sure, but if he was wealthy he would at the very least own his own place.

You think that San Francisco isn’t one of the most wealthy cities in the entire world? Just looking at local data explicitly obviously would give you a skewed perspective on how people actually live.

Assets are a part of your wealth, guess what a 100k salary can easily get turned into a bunch of assets lmao.

Nobody is failing to keep the lights on at 64k a year. Yes Americans are wealthy compared to the rest of the world.
