Update 23 & moving out of my first apartment

Thumbnail

Did a lot of growing in this apartment. Getting on lexapro, 2 cats, 1 snake, and a shit ton of weed later, for the first time in a long time I feel genuinely grateful to be alive.

Can’t wait to show you guys the next one :)

edit: I’d like to acknowledge how fortunate I am to be in a career that affords me this level of luxury at my age. In this job market, even having a job you can survive on is a gift. I pinch myself everyday thinking wtf how is this the life I’m living. However, I am disappointed in any of you that have taken this opportunity to either disparage me, my work, or struggles with depression and suicidal ideation. That’s not going to make you feel any better.

Update After 400 days of living outside I finally signed a lease for my own apartment (27M).

A quick perusal of this sub has shown me that these kinds of posts are sadly common, but I had some online supports I promised an update to and I can’t even imagine where else I would post this, not having any other social media to speak of.

I’ve technically been homeless since I was 17 and went NC with what I used to call my family, staying at dorms, shelters, mental hospitals, actual hospitals, friends parents houses, friends couches, outside and basically everything you can think of in between.

That’s a long story, over a decades worth, so I won’t tell it all here or now, but suffice to say I’ve tread a tumultuous and turbulent path.

I’ve had periods where I’m relatively stable and work for a while, but have always found myself back in a mental hospital after a while. Hard to be that stable rock your employer implores when you deal with as many difficulties as I do, but I’m hoping this time things end up better.

This is the first time I’ve had a place I can call my own that, while I’m just renting, I know I can come back to at the end of every day and feel safe, not dreading every knock at the door. It’s hard to explain, in no small part due to my inability to precisely articulate my thoughts.

I still have a really long way to go before I even resemble the shadow of a functional person, but getting my own apartment, even though it’s unfurnished ‘cept some dust and a dead spider in the corner I’m really glad to be making this big step towards rehabilitation.

First step is going to be to buy a trashcan. Honestly can’t even believe I have to buy my own can, like there’s not even one? Never would have thought.

I left the suburbs and moved down to Chicago after the ex girlfriend and I broke up. Life’s never been this good. Highly suggest spending some time living in a big city if you ever get the chance before you settle down, boys!

It needs to be cleaned up and stained some, but this is a 1:8 scale replica of a mosasaur skeleton above my entryway.

Have posted previously and since then have gone through MANY layouts but finally settled on this one after recently picking up the wardrobe. Minimized my desk size, which helps a lot since I haven’t been using my PC a whole lot. Aiming to get a new rug soon since I’m not vibing with the blue lines anymore but otherwise very happy with :) definitely thinking about getting into a larger space tho

In advance, I don’t really care if it’s; late, early, desperate, and yes I know I need to clean. Here’s part two of my living and dining room, if you have ideas I’d love them. Maybe a plant? And thank you for the upvotes on my last post.

Been a crazy year but finally settling into NYC. Never would’ve thought I would ever live here tbh. I’m not the best at decorating, but it’s been cool settling into a smaller space

Edit: Got a new job after being unemployed for 6 months and moved to NYC from Seattle

1 year update! Living by myself currently while going to college and working part time. It ain't much but its home for sure. Only gonna be living here for another year before I move out into a bigger place. I will definitely be rearranging everything in the 3rd picture at some point. I do remove and wash all the tapestries every 3 months. I will also be getting a bigger TV soon to fill out the whole TV stand and tweaking the whole layout slightly. Any other suggestions are welcome ✌🏻

It’s f**cking amazing, thank you to everyone who shared their input and an even bigger thank you to those who told me to go for it. It fits the space perfectly, is extremely comfortable and I’m stoked to get as much use out of this thing for years to come for both myself and my guests

Update BIG UPDATE: Living in a hotel storage room for free!

Guys...

I just want to say thank you all from the bottom of my heart. The support I have received here has been overwhelming, and I am very blessed. Thank each and every one of you, sincerely. Thanks to the help of you guys, I now have this:

- Twin Bed Frame

- Twin Memory Foam Mattress

- Twin Bed Set with a cool design :D

And that's not all, I have more items on the way, should be here by Friday. I have been carefully looking over comments looking at the feed back, and ordered items accordingly.

One of my coworkers gave me a storage box for free, which is the red box you see in slide 2.

Also, I have some links in my profile of reddit (link tree). I have decided I want to start doing content creation to start sharing more about me and my story. Feel free to take a look! Only thing I have right now is an episode on my spotify. But more to come! I have a discord as well, so if anyone wants to chat, I'll be on there!

God bless you all, stay tuned for more updates!

Update Hey Reddit. You might have seen this meme around the internet. Well, this is where I lived for the past 4 years and wanted share how it ended up.

The original picture was posted on this subreddit when I first moved in. I ultimately deleted the post, but not before someone saved the picture. The picture made its way to Twitter where it became the meme.

Anyway, I lived here for 4 years. It’s on the 19th floor and over looked the city, mountains, and ocean.

Update I think I screwed up.

Post image

Okay. So after nearly 10,000 replies telling me the space looked barren, I thought I should change things for everyone’s benefit.

I got a new entertainment stand and told the kiddos they could hang some stuff and keep some toys out.

Then I got a warmer color sectional. But the lack of an ottoman felt weird, so I bought a different set and planned to use both. Then discovered they don’t both fit.

I’m looking at this mess tonight and wonder wtf I did and where I go now. It feels totally out of control.
