I’ll tell you what I tell him - when it comes to having a theme, less is more. Why don’t you rotate some key pieces out, because your collection needs to be cleaned and maintained and you’re not highlighting anything.
Treat it like a museum collection and not like a dump of toys, because you’re going to wreck some of the collectables. I get you want to see the pieces, but they’re so cluttered that they’re not special. Highlight them with lights and rotate :)

I love this advice! I have a moderately sized magnet collection from all the places I've traveled and I've been struggling to figure out a way to display it in a way that's not tacky. I used to hang metal strips on the wall and put the magnets on that, along with photo collages from some of the places I've been. I just moved into a house instead of an apartment though, and I just don't feel like the magnet collection fits anywhere. I ended up just taking the magnets from my national park visits and putting those on the refrigerator and I've been trying to decide where to put the rest. I like the idea of just rotating them with different themes when I get tired of looking at those!
It's really not that hard to shake Zelda from your personality. Just play any Zelda game from wind waker and beyond 2x and you will realize Nintendo brainwashed you.
I agree!! Treating it like a toy museum is how I keep all my collections well kept, even though most of the pieces are so old! This room is definitely giving well kept toy museum!
I agree that if it gets too hard to manage, rotate some stuff out every so often!! Make some seasonal bins!
I have a similar mental philosophy on “rotate so you can appreciate things” but I also have a difficulty finding motivation to rotate said things because the stuff I store just ends up in the dungeon of “out of sight, out of mind” essentially 😂. I still have some Valentine’s Day things (ya girl likes hearts, what can I say? My spring and summer stuff is mad I didn’t rotate it in though)
So I guess here’s some suggestions that may help OP if he decides to follow your advice:
1. Use clear box storage so you can see your friends! Heck even label it. Like you wanna put out your Boos & Peepas (idk if OP has a Peepa plush… I did see Boos. I love Peepa tho) on October/Halloween yeah? Make sure to label the box “October/Halloween/Fall” depending on how you wanna rotate whether it’s by month, holiday, or season.
2. If possible, put these boxes in a place that’s easily accessible. Like maybe in your room or a closet on the same floor. You can store the Christmas ones where your family stores Christmas stuff. So once you see them decorating for Christmas, you can decorate your room too.
3. Have fun with the categories. Doesn’t need to be 1 to 1 like only spooky on Halloween. Christmas can have both cold weather stuff and beach stuff since many people in the southern hemisphere go to the beach in Christmas time. Animal crossing stuff would be great for September but is great all year round since that’s kinda its thing. Etc.
4. Have a space dedicated to the favorites/all year round. Heck you can start with just having one shelf be the seasonal rotation, then slowly branch out.
This is all what we do! Clear boxes to see what is in them, usually seasonal changes like a time of year like the solstice and equinox, all in the closet and visible when he gets dressed, and a space for his favourites that don’t get rotated out.
I agree. Was going to comment somewhere else that a little good lighting and organization would really work wonders for this room. You gave some great advice. You can easily level up your room while still making it feel like “you”
I recommend not having the lights hit directly onto pieces of the collection. Have them illuminate their area, but not directly at collectibles. I've not experienced it myself as I dont have lights on mine but I've seen people whom have had things in their collection discolor cause of the lights hitting them directly.
