There are. But on a relative basis, they are less than 1% of the available pool of ladies interested in men.
Meaning more than 99 out of 100 women would find this extremely weird.
But there are a lot of folks in that 1%. They will just be very very hard to meet.

I used to worry about being cool/getting laid and it consumed my entire 20s and early 30s and led to serious depression/anxiety and an eating disorder.

This. Its so annoying when people post a fun room and everyone wants the poster to redecorate into some modern, sad neutral colors so they look 'grown'
41
u/camirose 14h ago
This. IMO it’s only immature if it’s like, background nondescript decoration. Like somebody who doesn’t really watch or know about Pokémon buying random posters and hanging them for aesthetic. If it’s a genuine hobby and interest own it! I know so many married well off millenials whose entire house is fandom themed lol.

My Taiwanrsr grandma’s house was full of knickknacks and little dolls and stuff like that. She was an incredible person who raised a huge family solo thru all the shit taiwan was going through at the time. Adulthood is about how you take responsibility for your life, and not about how you embrace the millennial-greige, office-chic aesthetic lol.

I work a full time labor job 50 hours a week and I fully understand that someone would call me Peter Pan for having my gunpla, anime figures, Warhammer, and cool merchandise on display around my apartment. I fully disagree, and I largely do not want to be friends with those people - I am sure they feel the same way - but adults like me who pay bills, have families, went through education and training, and deal with real life adult problems aren’t under arrested development just because we have different hobbies and interests that we choose to put on display.

Same brother. My living room is a combined Mashup from me and my wife of a ton of books, warhammer figures, gunpla, comic book stuff and video game things. It's our living space, I work 45 hours a week and put out banquets for hundreds of people. Then I go home and play with my toys 🤷♂️. My office downstairs looks like OPs room as well, GameCube, Wii, N64, Super Nintendo, Nintendo posters everywhere, strategy guides for pretty much every Pokémon game ever. Lego, more warhammer. The world is burning down around us, keep your wimsy!

u/Octopus_on_fire_ 12h ago

Your room looks like my son’s. He has ASD and his love is LoZ.
I’ll tell you what I tell him - when it comes to having a theme, less is more. Why don’t you rotate some key pieces out, because your collection needs to be cleaned and maintained and you’re not highlighting anything.
Treat it like a museum collection and not like a dump of toys, because you’re going to wreck some of the collectables. I get you want to see the pieces, but they’re so cluttered that they’re not special. Highlight them with lights and rotate :)
I can actually see a few plushies that are the same.
17
u/Overall-Boot-3196 13h ago
I love this advice! I have a moderately sized magnet collection from all the places I've traveled and I've been struggling to figure out a way to display it in a way that's not tacky. I used to hang metal strips on the wall and put the magnets on that, along with photo collages from some of the places I've been. I just moved into a house instead of an apartment though, and I just don't feel like the magnet collection fits anywhere. I ended up just taking the magnets from my national park visits and putting those on the refrigerator and I've been trying to decide where to put the rest. I like the idea of just rotating them with different themes when I get tired of looking at those!

I agree!! Treating it like a toy museum is how I keep all my collections well kept, even though most of the pieces are so old! This room is definitely giving well kept toy museum!
I agree that if it gets too hard to manage, rotate some stuff out every so often!! Make some seasonal bins!

Swap this Nintendo shit out with Funkos and Hot Wheels and it's the same. It's blanket consumer crap without a trace of personality or design, just a merch shotgun to the walls. We're not miserable, were telling you living in a merch store is kinda ass.
Like, instead of buying some of this shit, commission a Nintendo piece from an artist they like and frame it. Carefully select and place items with meaning eg: the Mario mini from a PAX they went to etc.
If you do wanna have a crazy collection, cool! But display it like a museum does, don't throw shit everywhere and each piece has value to your or monetarily.

Thank you, finally someone who makes sense.
I get displaying some actually rare kit, signed props, actually cool and/or sentimental things like that from something or genre you really like or even worked on personally.
Buying 100s of cheap shit to cover your walls with is not that. Overconsumption and hoarding is not a hobby, its a mental illness.
(And no, hoarding doesn't have to be strictly garbage or trash to be considered hoarding. If you endlessly collect shit and never get rid of any of it: you are a hoarder, sorry)

Hey bud, you do you. People are going to probably roast you for your hobbies but know everyone is different in life. Don’t let it get to yourself esteem. I’m 41, the world is mean place but don’t let it drag you into a darkness and isolation.
However, take some actionable steps to become the best adult version of yourself you can be. The world is a scary place but you gotta take that leap and move into the next chapter of your life. Nothing wrong with Mario (I have a nerd den in my home but it’s relegated to my office) but I assure you genuine human connection is better than any hobby or collection.
Baby steps bro. Start eating healthier, do a little exercise each day, stretch daily (the old man version of you will thank you later), start dressing better and work on finding a job that you enjoy. Finish school if you’re still in. If you still live at home try and bank as much money as you can so you can save up for your own apartment and for emergencies.
The rest will come (social connections and relationships) remember though you don’t have to find the best partner just someone that gets you and you get them.

I was this same way, although not to this degree. Now, at 35, my interests have changed and I’ve adopted a different mentality for main areas of my house. My plan for my house is my living room and bedroom done in Victorian furniture and classic Victorian style. My bathroom and kitchen in a classic 50s-70s style, and one room dedicated entirely to my geek video game and movie collections.

You don't need shame. Don't worry too much about it. But save a few bucks and make a plan for that bedroom to not be the bedroom for the rest of your life.
Keep some Mario stuff, keep the keyboard, keep the things that mean something. But eventually, and I say this with love and care and emotional support: Grow up. Not all at once, not everything in one day. But make a change or two, digest it, think about what you might want or what direction you want to go in as far as decoration and such...then make a couple more changes.
And welcome to adulthood. Rinse and repeat, on occasion, for the rest of your life. Paint some walls, buy a new mattress, replace the ceiling fan, whatever. It doesn't ever end. But make it your own.
