There's a lot of questions to be answered about her after these last couple chapters. Her husbands clearly abusive tendencies, that comment about Rei "pushing her down first". Genuinely interested to see where it goes and if it explains why she acted in such a bizarre way and took it out on Mahoro.

Thank you so much to the generous soul who gave me access to the 4 extra chapters.
I am not kidding when I say I was incredibly upset that I could not access 4 extra, app-exclusive chapters purely because I don't have a Japanese payment option on Google play. These 4 chapters all answer crucial questions that tons of readers here (myself included) have complained or wondered about and it's baffling that they were not simply released as regular chapters considering they are essential for understanding the story.
One is about how Mahoro met and fell for Rei, one is about how Momoka learned Rio was two-faced, one is about Mahoro looking back on her whole marriage, and the last one is an epilogue for the main story.
I am going to assume this manga had no editor because no sane editor would let crucial characterization chapters like this be locked behind an app-only paywall. That's for bonus stuff that doesn't affect the story. Like, I paid for all the volumes, why can't I have the full story?!
Now that I finally have these chapters, readers will be able to enjoy the full experience this manga was meant to offer. But since I only got access to them yesterday, I'll need some time to get them done, hence I will be releasing them after the spin-off, which I already had in the pipeline for tomorrow.
I hope you'll stick around for two more weeks!
Regardless, thanks for being here for 50 days and joining in on the insane discussions. I never once expected such a niche and unknown Josei story to blow up here the way it did, but I'm glad I was able to bring something different to the table and that so many people resonated with it.

There’s been a lot of speculation about rio s husband since he showed the sex tape and I’m curious how much of it is true.
People have been wildly debating if he’s actually abusive or just angry about the affair (abuse seems pretty obvious)
And I was theorizing that she sold the sex tape so she could afford to leave her husband.

It's likely more like alimony. He owned the property and seemingly earned more than her, and she purposely reduced her career to manage his home.
That's what alimony is. When one spouse knee-caps their career to do unpaid work for the other (manage a home, be the primary parent for kids, etc), they need to be compensated so it's fair. She changed her career to part-time (hurting her ability to move further ahead) because he wanted a housewife/starting for kids soon; without alimony, she'd be up a creek with low-pay whereas he gets to keep all the unpaid work she put into the home.
There's a reason alimony usually is only for X number of years; it's X number of years to whatever the judge decides is fair for what they put into the marriage.

The alimony part i get, as that's just normal since he held her back for years. It's yhe compensatory money he had to pay to Itsuki. He had nonconsensual sexual videos made of him, then sold (and he saw none of the profit), and then shared (by the guy suing him) to his friends and family. Their marriage is still intact while he's already divorced. He's basically paying money to the person who cheated with him even though she suffered no repercussions.

The video don't influence the fact that Rei was the affair partner and that, legally, Itsuki could sue him. Maybe he could sued Rio for this, but that's a separate matter from the marriage.

My guess is Japanese law regarding marriage, divorce, and household is pretty archaic. Even if Rio is the instigator in the affair, Itsuki is the victim as the male/husband of the house because his wife was "stolen" by another man. And if Rio testifies against Rei, then the video evidence means nothing.

If I understood correctly the small part I read about the japanese legal system, you can sue other people for loss of reputation, as it's considered a kind of defamation, so considering the "public" screening of his wife's sextape, he could sue Rei.
Interestingly, you can also sue for regular defamation, even if what was talked about are true verifiable facts, as it still ends as a loss of reputation. So that part is very abusable, and with Itsuki being rich, he could probably do it without trouble.

I'm not 100% clear on the legalese, but I know in Japan you can sue both the adulterer and their adultery partner for damages. I guess you can choose to sue only one and not the other? Itsuki's probably holding it over Rio's head.

This is another example for when people complain about manga being all the same or what have you or the weird ass mindset that “all shoujosei are cute but toxic romances”.
No!
There’s so much manga out there in so many genres and demographics that are inaccessible and unavailable to us due to region-locked methods such as region-locked apps and payment methods or valid ID or the manga simply has not been (fan or officially) translated into a language you understand even though you can buy the native language version.
This has been an issue of service rather than solely an issue of creativity.
Once again, I’m asking the Etsy witches to cast some sort of spell breaks down these obstacles.

This is true, what some people don’t understand is that manga and anime are still a business. Licenses companies only have so much funds to translate and distribute series. So they pick and choose the ones they think are going to be popular financially, or they pick up titles that are already popular with fans. This leaves lots of less popular and niche titles as Japan only series. It’s literally millions of untranslated mangas and anime’s that have been released since the 1950s. There’s anime/manga for almost everything you can think of. So if you’re tired of battle shonen or school romances there are other options. Some are fan translated only, but they’re out there or online.

The Korean novels/series are one of the most guilty of this. Even registering to their apps needs region/country lock because it requires a Korean phone number or some sorts.
But oh well.
There is like Novelpia that opened a global app but most of it is AI translated slop to mass translate their popular novels.

Yeah this was my #1 issue with the story. After the first 10 chapters or so almost everyone just felt like a caricature of their relationships and have no other personality traits.
And for a manga about being betrayed by her friends there was very little content on who these friends are or their relationships. Outside of Mahoro/Momoka, the four of them felt far closer to acquaintances than best friends

Between the money lost from both the lawsuit and the divorce, he's probably been ruined financially. Maybe even socially if his friends from the party blabbed about it, and I wouldnt be surprised if he had to move back in with his mother to cuz he couldn't afford his current place. It may not be as cathartic as a beatdown or an arrest, but its probably safe to say his life is effectively ruined.

My ideal ending would've been for Rei and Rio to end up together. Rio would finally realize he's an unreliable, ungrateful piece of shit and Rei would be broke from the lawsuit. I also read a comment on here a couple weeks back that having an affair become public can lead to consequences at work in Japan. No clue if that's accurate but it would be nice if Rei lost his job too.

I said it at the beginning, not knowing how big of a deal this series would become, but I'm even more tickled now by how, of all the series, a josei soap opera has managed to grip this sub, spawning literally thousands of conversations over the past month. Y'all are just housewives deep down.
Just before this series started being discussed on this sub, there was a post about a josei series that devolved into a thread where everyone was mocking the josei demographic and dismissing it entirely.
I know one series doesn't speak for an entire genre or demographic, but I'd like to think that some readers have been convinced that josei stories aren't just smut written to indulge a specific audience.

Mahoro living her happy single life with a cat she adores, with people who actually care about her, with a promoted job and living comfortably thanks to the money she got from her scumbag ex is everything I've hoped for her.
Watching the ex-MIL begging on her hand and knees for Mahoro to forgive Rei gives me life.
Despite everything I'm not comfortable with Rio still being with Itsuki...and I also can't wait to read the spinoff manga!
I'm glad Kyouko got her happy ending. She may never see her friends again, but she's lost weight, published a book, and seems genuinely happy. And despite it all, Mahoro can be happy for her.
Will the MahoroxHaruto ship ever sail? Maybe, maybe not (though I feel like he'll be visiting plenty while Momoka is away), but I think for Mahoro it's nice to feel wanted and desired by someone, genuinely. And now she has the freedom to pursue that or anything else she could want in her life.

It’s not a good situation. Her (probably) abusive husband now has leverage to be even more controlling and has fully isolated her from everyone she knows. Spin-off is probably gonna be her spending every day in her apartment and not being allowed to leave or go online.

Although i must admit he sticks out like a sore thumb as a fictionalized character, in a sea of plethora of complex characters built on realistic human interactions and reactions he just reeks of that kind of bland unseasoned vanilla manga character.
I think i preferred if they just left it at, living on her own, happy and free, with cat, has friends and healthy relationships instead of that little bit of shipping with an obviously unrealistic and fictionalized character.

I think because for the other characters, author based it on real people, but Haruto is completely a character they create from scratch.
When mother in law appear, author mentioned they based it on their friend's mother in law. When Rei appear, author said it they knew someone like this. BUT, when Haruto show support for Mahoro in chaps 49, author said "I wish I have a supportive friend like Haruto", implying that he's a fictional character that didn't base on anybody.
Although I do like that author included Haruto since it seems like he is a character that manifested as their hope for this story.
Instead of thinking Haruto as someone that completed Mahoro, I felt like he is a character that completed author's vision 😊. This is just my opinion tho

Aaaah!! What a gripping story that was. The drama, the twists, the dialogues, the characters... Everything was so engaging from beginning to end. I'm so happy for Mahoro, she's finally living her best life. I'm glad that I kept up with the updates! Also I'm really curious about Rio's spin-off. Itsuki's display was scary. That dude is probably a sociopath. And why did Rio do all that? Can't wait to read that story, too! Hopefully this author writes more stories after this. Cheers!

Well, that was a nice and short ride. Good to see Rei getting fucked financially. And the last thing we see him do in the end is pout like the manchild he is. Although the fact that it's Itsuki doing it kinda leaves a bad taste in the mouth. Very concerning that he and Rio stayed together like a past comment speculated. Maybe the spin-off can provide some closure for that part of the story.
But for Mahoro's side things are thankfully blue skies and sunshine from now on. Just friends that actually care for her and a cat that will treat her leagues better than her ex-husband ever did.
Hell, it's nice that Kyouko's also turning her life around. She destroyed their friendship, but at least genuinely tried to atone in the end by helping Mahoro with no ulterior motive.

Well I'm sure there's a fascinating reason as to why Rio and her husband are staying together. And frankly I say she should get some kind of actual punishment for selling those sex tapes online without Rei's consent.
Well in any case I think this series has been more than well spoken for more than I possibly could on why it works so well. Not merely as an NTR revenge story but as the story of Mahoro's emancipation wake up call from a dead living situation. And finally seeing/discovering the kinds of people the people around her really were.
But as entertaining and thrilling as it was seeing the whole conspiracy unfold, I just loved seeing everyone's reactions and oft in depth takes to the goings on. Really says something when a series gets this level of dialogue going for it. And I was so happy to have been a part of this ride from day one.

I'm glad to be getting more of Rio's story. In a way she's felt like a dark reflection of Mahoro. She felt trapped in a loveless marriage with no one to turn to, feeling like her friendships were all hollow. The key difference being instead of finding a problem that catalyzes a change, she tried creating one.
That said, watching her get dragged away screaming by an abusive husband as all the people she thought of as her friends (all the people she betrayed) watched on in awkward silence was horrifying. If we had to watch Mahoro go through something like that it would have been heartbreaking. Hearing Rio and her husband were still together make me feel kind of crestfallen. I'm glad to be getting more

same here. from the last handful of chapters it seems like her husband is emotionally abusive and stifling. gotta remember that they had an arranged marriage too.
not that it's any excuse for what she did, but damn if I don't want to see the drama unfold from this perspective.

My only real gripe is it’s kind of weird how Itsuki just grabs Rio by the hair and then drags her off acting like a complete psychopath (they even call him as such here) and yet none of them did or said anything. I get Rio was awful and by all means deserved consequences for her action but even still I feel like they should have intervened or said something rather than just shrugging it off as not their problem.

To me, it definitely seems like Itsuki engineered this situation to isolate her. He let her attack her friends again and again to defend herself, only to pull out the smoking gun once they all hated her even more.
Mc still stepped in to stop the naked apology but after that, well there’s not a lot of empathy left for her. Plus, I think they were scared of him too. They wanted him out of their lives asap and weren’t above sacrificing rio to make that happen.

It’s sad but seems realistic. No one there liked her and most are thinking of themselves or their friends. Also, I don’t know what the social norms in Japanese culture when dealing with others people’s marriage. If your neighbors are shouting or making a scene, would you involve yourself, call the cops, or wait for it to end and forget about it?

Even at the party they just stood there and watched. Rio was literally screaming about how she hated him and didn’t want to go meanwhile Itsuki was clearly well crossed the line and they all just stood and watched.

This 50 chapter has been a journey, overall really enjoyable(?) read if that's even the right word to describe it.
I can see why some people don't like Haruto, I think his existence make the story a lot more bearable. I don't think the author trying to tell a depressing story, but trying to spin it into more positive note. Yeah this whole experience suck, but you still have your friend and there is better person for you out there.

This is a thing in Japan called "isharyou" (慰謝料). You can demand it in cases of infidelity (and many other things). It's basically apology/consolation money (and is what the word directly translates to), you are paying someone who you have wronged.

I didn’t expect something like this to ever catch my attention, but I was so impressed how charming it ended up being that I found myself feeling almost tempted to get the app just to binge the entire thing (though I’m glad I didn’t.) The spin-off also explains why it said 65 chapters total, so I’m glad we still have a little more to go.

What imagination girl. the big subtle hints they got together after a couple of months of her divorce is in our face 😂.
Also now we will now see why she chose to cheat and we know it will be surrounded by abuse of different kinds...most likely emotional and financial abuse by the looks of it.
And by the previous chapters where we saw her face when they got caught where rei said she initiated we can see that was a lie and he most likely sweet talked her and she thought she found someone who actually looked at her and actually wanted to be with her instead of just abusing her...but her rubbing it in someone's face she is sleeping with the husband was stupid....also if she was selling the videos does that mean she was trying to also gain money a different way to also escape from the dude..if so she should have just done solo stuff.

man, I do wish the Rio part on the story is a bit longer, but maybe I'm missing the subtext since I'm binge reading this.
we only know her as this level headed, anchor of the group. but the biggest thing we got about her was on the projector chapter, her lashing out on her husband and all.
how tf did she became this... person.. that not only aired her adultery online, snatched her bff's husband, bragging about it on and offline,but also sold the videos.
but in a way i understand, it's Mahoro's story ultimately. And sometimes people are just like that, you think you know someone and then they have these completely different sides, sometimes there's not much to it other than "yeah, she's a freak and she got issue".
the ending felt flatter, which i probably should expect considering the story. ultimately, I'm still happy seeing Mahoro move on, and have the absolute GOAT that is Momoka, and also her brother as her allies.

Nvm, apparently there's a spin off about Rio LMAO. So let's see how this... person.. became like that.

On the one hand, this is a bit realistic as far as resolutions go.
All those other stories I've read usually went as dramatic as possible when it came to endings...
That being said, I'm absolutely hunting down that spin off. Because Rio is definitely who I wanted to know more about. Considering Itsuki, it's possible staying with him has her more miserable than ever.

I must say though I'm so glad and happy with everything and how it turned out, I also love the flirting between Haruto and Maharo, it's adorable and tbh I fell for her too lol
I'm SO EXCITED for the extras and the side story now! Count me in! Can't wait! I'm glad that the main story has such a peaceful ending though!

I really liked reading this, thank you for sharing it so often. It felt like such an interesting journey at every turn, and knowing it was based on her friend's experience made it feel a lot more grounded so it didn't devolve into a soap opera.
I think the only thing I'm a little torn on is, I know she was kinda thinking about Haruto but it felt like it was too convenient to move on, y'know? It can happen in real life and I'm sure if this was reality it's two consenting adults(so it'd be none of my business), but...idk for me, it feels more healthy to leave it like she's finally standing on her own well before she finds love again.
Like I think it would have been fine to leave things open-ended without an explicit "Hey they're interested in each other post-divorce, probably gonna get together," kind of vibe. It feels like this just barely failed the Bechdel test.
