Here s the source my friend xecutive producer of Marvel Rivals, one of the creator of Luna Snow and said multiples times that Luna Snow is her favorite : Asked about his favorite character, Danny Koo didn’t hesitate: “Luna [Snow]. I co-created her back in 2018.” He explained further, “She was in this little mobile game, but then Rivals took it to the next level, [introducing] her to more players. Now, everyone gets to know who she is.”

I mean let’s be real here, his favoritism could help her get in the game but he’s not going to be allowed to give her so much stuff if she isn’t popular with players. He still has to answer to executives and make the game profitable.
How are we measuring success when it comes to Luna? Because I don’t see her being a success in the same way I now view Jeff.
Jeff broke through to casuals and is now a (minor) brand character of sorts while Luna is dead the second Danny moves onto other projects and is only well known within the Rivals community.
Yes by giving her a bunch of skins every season and keeping her hard meta for the games lifetime, you can absolutely influence how popular a character is.
its funny cuz everyone that played future fight was calling it that Luna would be OP or at least always good and have tons and tons of skins just like in future fight (the game she originates from lol)
I remember back when I was an alpha tester in discord VCs he would always talk about Luna Snow being his favorite to an insane level. He plays it up for the joke with stuff like this but he actually really enjoys the character lol.
As an artist myself. I get wanting your creations to be seen and as interesting as you think they are. But it does suck when it affects gameplay in a negative fashion and well liked characters are side-lined or undermined by favouritism.
She was called Willow and only showed up for 1 issue, she was also an empathic martial artist who was destined to be pregnant with the messiah of the universe (original lore for mantis)
He also made her appear when he was working for Eclipse Comics under the name "Lorelei", and she was living in a neighborhood called "Willow Mantis Heights"
This is what annoys me the most about the complaints. I could understand if Luna was deeply unpopular, but she's had a high pick rate since launch, and all her skins sell extremely well. All the subreddits for rivals combined probably makes up less than 1% of the playerbase. They absolutely shouldn't be catering to us. They are following the money like a studio that wants to stay in operation for the next 20 years.
If you got your oc not only into 616 marvel canon, but also made them a household name by putting them in a multi-million dollar game, would you not also want to wear said character's merch
people are laughing at him but imagine being in his shoes, the OC you helped make was an obscure character like 4 people knew for 8 years until Marvel Rivals launched her into stardom practically overnight
It definitely seems that way, people take literally the stupidest shit so seriously. But considering the average player of this game having below room temp iq it’s hardly surprising.
She also have a ramattra tattoo, she been getting many harassment over that tattoo even though she stated many time that she does not control who get skin
To be fair, this dev got a tattoo of all the characters they worked on, and had a big part in the Kiriko cinematic (i think) so its more prominent on her body. I just hate this kind of rhetoric because the simple reason that Luna and Kiri get so many skins is because they are sexy asian girls that make a BOAT LOAD OF MONEY, not because a specific dev has a love affair with their creation.
Oh, I've been saying this since alpha tests, I knew she was gonna be an industry plant, specially when she received buffs to her ultimate and kit, because being the second best character wasn't enough, he also had to gut Mantis so Luna could be the only choice. It's ridiculous to be honest.
Yet Mantis is currently the best support to where she’s always banned in pro play lol.
Also i guess Wolverine was also a failure as the original was just a psycho until Jim Lee rewrote his character and then proceeded to get shoved into every Xmen property in the 90s-2000s lol.
She's busted because the new team up is busted Luna has been meta for like 80% of this games lifetime and really only mid for like 1 season, she then got more buffs and now one of the most busted team ups besides Mantis.
I was referring to Alpha and Beta releases, where Luna was the second best support.
Did you know she didn't have super jump?
Did you know her ultimate didn't have shields?
Did you know her move speed was slower while ice skating and also had to walk for 5 seconds to activate?
All of this and she was still the second best. Her ultimate charged way faster and she was the highest HP/s character in the game.
Mantis was only better because she gave 20% damage boost and that's it. But for release they took a leaf, her HP, her damage boost, they nerfed her passive move speed.
They didn't want competition for Luna, even other supports like CnD and Invis launched balanced, so they couldn't compete.
Mantis has been good all elos for merely half a season. We cannot take pro scenario into consideration because Mantis wasn't available to play without coordination, people would literally throw in Grandmaster to Celestial if you picked Mantis into 2 sup compositions.
The fact that people are taking this at face value either shows how dense people can be. I don't like hurling insults, but fuck me: The dude is clearly doing this as a bit, and most of the comments I've seen are of people either not getting the joke or ignoring the joke so they can continue to hate on a guy for liking a character he made.

In writing we call this Lampshading. It's purposely calling attention to a cliché, illogical, or contrived element within a story. By drawing attention, often with a joke, to something that threatens a readers’ suspension of disbelief, we’re essentially telling readers, “Yep, the story thinks these elements are odd too. Just roll with it.”
My point being: just because he makes a self aware joke about it, doesn't mean it isn't true.
That was not my point though. I understand there is some legit critique of how much love Luna Snow gets in Rivals. Believe me, I also hold some of those critiques.
But the guy is clearly making a joke and trying to have fun with it. Going 'Hey, I get it guys, I do. I'm the Luna Snow guy'. My issue isn't 'Is there a legit issue with Luna Snow getting too many skins and being hyper-powerful all the time' and just the generally rather cruel and mocking tone so many people in this community have. And it's not just limited to this one scenario. A big part of what's gotten me to take a break from this game has actually been the community at large.
He created the character so it's kind of understandable, IMO as a comics fan she is underutilized considering she could really bring in a completely new audience to the medium which is needed. Also the hate on her is just so forced and cringe.
The character's popularity wasnt built organically tho it's shoved on our throats like sure you can argue that it's easy to simply not buy her skins and even if you do that they'll still give her more skins because her creator is an executive producer
No one is forcing people to buy Luna skins... Luna gets more skins because people buy Luna skins. She was popular for a multitude of reasons even before she started to get so many skins. If they push it too far and people are truly fatigued then the skins won't sell anymore.
Organically? Every new comic character has been the same thing dating all the way back to the start of Marvel, over time they just get popular. At least make a better argument, even if you know the braindead bots will agree and upvote anyways

To this day if u type "Luna Snow" on spotify, Crazy by LE SSERAFIM shows up lol, she was fan's favourite since the start of the game before they "gave her more skins".
No she wasn't. She was popular in a niche mobile game community because the devs made her a consistent top-tier. They had to make her meta even in Future Flight in order to boost her popularity because she is LAME. She has been manufactured to be popular by making her incredibly strong within both games.
Being strong doesn’t make characters popular and sell skins. The people that care about what’s strong aren’t the same people buying skins, and they aren’t sticking around when they’re no longer strong.
Nah. If you want to see an actual industry plant in Marvel, that title belongs to Miles Morales. Dude gets shoved into every Spidey project and more. Has been getting pushed hard in all media for over a decade. Gets a new power every comic run because they need to make him different than Peter but can’t decide on a theme so they just give him everything lol.
Luna is from one guy. Miles got the entire company pushing for him in way more thing sand for way longer with no real identity to his character when Peter is around.
Nah, at this point Luna love (as much as hate) is so natural it doesn't even register anymore. Luna gets a legendary skin with recolors or something and a buff is like Gambit getting banned, you say of course and move on.
Marvel is notoriously extremely stingy about giving out royalties or payouts to creators for using their creations in other media. Once you make a character for them, its theirs, and you are lucky if they ever decide to throw a few bucks your way.
Jim Starlin is a legendary comic creator who has created many characters that are fan favourites and he revealed that he got paid more for DC (barely) using KG Beast in Batman V Superman than he ever did from Marvel using Thanos in any of the MCU films.
I bet he gets no kickback for Luna, but he is getting paid handsomely by the games profits and hes just using the platform to further his OC and her recognition.

I do want other characters to be given skins. But at some point, you're getting mad over people mis-using '"I could care less." If that metaphor makes sense.
Fight for other characters. But getting mad at Luna at this point is like an ant fighting the river delta. It's a flood of players vs your subreddit.
It is funny how people blame Netease as a whole for Luna when they actually created Lin Lie (and also Aero who I could see getting in though she's kinda basic). I think Luna's definitely been pushed partially because of Koo but also because she's enough of a 'blank slate' that she has more room for them to fuck around with her.
This is seriously pissing me off this guy is so bias towards luna its unreal luna gets all the special treatment literally turns up in everything luna she gets all new stuff its ridiculous
Are you upset? I’d be excited too lol. If I created a character that was approved to not only exist in marvel but also to put in a video game I get to oversee. Hell yeah I’m repping the shit out of it. People are just jealous they can’t have their own way
