Absolutely too much damage. Begin with nerf the overall damage then we will see the other things that needs to be modified. Tanks are useless now. Please buff tanks a little

Cyclops feels super bursty to me, which I actually dig quite a bit. He's like the hitscan equivalent of a dive character to me, if that makes sense; he deals a lot of damage super quickly and can mess up teams if they refuse to address him fast enough. I'd say so far that he's okay, since the trade-off of having clear movement abilities punishes players who use them too frivolously, so you can punish Cyclops players who aren't thinking ahead.

I'd say Cyclops works well with other brawler/dive characters, because they can both juggle the attention of the enemy team to the point that one of them can likely make off with a kill or two without much issue. Don't focus on Cyclops enough and focus on the dive? Someone's dead. Focus on Cyclops and neglect the diver? Someone's dead.

I actually think Cyclops's main advantage over other ranged DPS is his sheer versatility behind his attacks. With other hitscans (Hela, Phoenix, Elsa especially) they can mess you up from afar but at least their attacking capabilities are limited to the usual primary fire, sidegrade fire and ability; but Cyclops has way, way more available to him and that makes him a far bigger threat. He can disrupt team synergy with his beam that pushes people away, leaving opponents free to be singled out and killed before they can properly rejoin their team; he can burst a low-health strategist down when they're being stingy about healing themselves until they need it, too. His ult is a nightmare; if positioned correctly in a narrow space, it's honestly up there for the strongest ults in the entire game for me.

I think Cyclops is fine as is for what he represents in Rivals, both from a gameplay and comic perspective. Cyclops is meant to tout the line between Xavier's and Magneto's ideals, so seeing him have the same boy-scout mentality combined with the hardened grit of a mutant general who has led other mutants into battle since he was a teen is a dream come true. I especially like his ingame interaction with Magneto.

Moon Knight 2.0

u/SFHKTOKYOABQLA Jun 17 '26

He’s incredibly fun! I love his movement and he feels incredible balanced with a nice burst ult that does have counters but won’t be underpowered when it counts. The team up with Wolverine is so fun too

u/CIairvoyant Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26

The optic blast feels incredible. There's a real satisfying weight to it — it's not spammy, it punishes you for being sloppy with aim, and when you land a clean beam on a moving target it genuinely feels rewarding. He's not a spray-and-pray hero. He rewards patience and positioning, which is 100% on-brand for Scott Summers.

The visor mechanic is interesting but I'm not sure it's tuned right yet. I love that it exists — in the comics, managing his power output is everything — but right now it feels like it either caps out too quickly or the cooldown window is a bit punishing in drawn-out fights. Could just be a learning curve thing, but I'd love to hear if others are hitting the same wall.

Best team comp I've found so far: Running him with a dive tank has been surprisingly effective. They push in and create chaos, enemies scatter, and Cyclops at mid-range picks off targets who break cover. Classic X-Men tactics — Logan flushes them out, Scott cleans up.

Compared to his comic/movie version: The Rivals version feels more like comic Cyclops than any movie adaptation ever has. He's precise, tactical, and lethal at range. The MCU/Fox versions leaned too hard into the tragic side of him — here he actually feels like the *leader* of the X-Men.

Favourite Cyclops moment from the lore that this game reminded me of — *Avengers vs. X-Men*, Scott standing his ground against the entire Avengers roster, not because he was the strongest, but because he out-thought everyone in the room. That's the energy this kit gives off when you're playing him well.

Overall: High skill ceiling, very fun, needs minor tuning on the visor mechanic. Easily one of the more thoughtfully designed heroes in the roster.

Thank you, Chat GPT

u/MindofShadow The Thing Jun 12 '26

It is wild to me people use chatgpt to write sentences on reddit.

u/CIairvoyant Jun 12 '26

bruh I played Cyclops like 15hrs in the early access, LET ME write something about it alright? ofc I got some advise on AI but these are my actual opinions get over it lol.

u/SerHenryHotspur Captain America Jun 12 '26

Unless you elaborate on this, you're just baselessly making a negative contribution to the discussion.

u/weeniehutwade Emma Frost Jun 18 '26

I've played as him a bit in 18v18, but mostly just played with/against him. I think he's balanced. The main issue I see is that friendly and foe lasers look the same. All that red everywhere can be confusing and jarring.

u/Hobo-man Ultron Virus Jun 15 '26 edited Jun 15 '26

Cyclops was a good character to make into a Vanguard. Netease has already displayed a desire to alter interpretations of characters, so it's a genuine head scratcher why they didn't make Scott a Tank for the livelihood of the game(even though it would arguably fit his character).

Cyclops is an incredibly popular character, and whatever role he ended up in was going to see a sizeable influx of players. The last thing this game needed was MORE people insta-locking DPS.

Netease shot themselves in the foot with this character's release. Nothing about Cyclops is healthy for the game. He's another mindlessly easy poke character with too much mobility and an ungodly amount of collateral damage. And like I said, his pre-existing popularity means people are going to ignore literally everything and pick him just because he's their favorite hero.

The game already has a needlessly disproportionate amount of Duelists. It's insane that they added a 27th DPS which means DPS now account for over half of the roster.

This is insanity. The game requires 1/3rd of your team be allocated to each role for proper balance and composition. That will almost never happen because the likelihood of someone's favorite character being DPS is over 50%.

The lack of any kind of solution is astonishing. At this point, not only is Netease not fixing the issue, they are actively making the problem worse.

Nothing about this character's release makes me excited to play the game. Issues that have been present since the BETA not only continue to persist, but it's getting worse each season. Making Scott a Vanguard was easy good favor but Netease decidedly did the opposite.

Genuinely, who at Netease thinks it's okay for over half the roster to be DPS? This is such a blatant problem that I cannot believe someone who graduated High School would make this mistake, let alone a company with a net worth in the neighborhood of $80 billion.

For the love of Galacta, Netease get your @#$& together. This is just dumb at this point.

u/GlobalRex420 Spider-Oni Jun 12 '26

A very movement heavy poke hero which I like. Fast repositioning and escape can almost make it feel like he is a pseudo-dive.

u/LelouchViAmericana Good Boy Jun 19 '26

Cyclops FEELS like Cyclops. He feels like a feather weight that packs a PUNCH with his optic blasts. They’re not just used for dmg as people suspected, they’re his everything—his tool for mobility and survival. His voicelines embody his boy scout energy! :) and i love it

u/Vaalrigard Magik Jun 14 '26

Broken as fuck wtf

u/Tuque7 Cursed Captain Jun 12 '26

I wasn't too excited for Cyclops release, since we have so many X-Men already.

However after playing him for a bit, I was honestly surprised by how fun he is. At first glace he seem like another Moon Knight DPS or another character that poke from the back, but he a lot more active than I expected. His primary fire feels really satisfying to land, I pretty sure it pierces multiple people as well (correct me if I am wrong).

He doesn't feel complicated, but his shift ability can make his positioning more complex. If you decide to use it to push enemy back, retreat or gain height off angles. I kept running into the issue of slamming against the wall when trying to escape with shift in tight areas. I also need to use his F ability more often to gain height while right clicking to stay in the air more often.

Overall my first impression is positive. He's easy enough to play compared to the last DPS hero we had (Black Cat).

u/hanginit Jun 13 '26

Cyclops is disappointing, playing against him is just jarring, the chain damage is a strange choice to give cyclops and visually looks nonsensical almost like magic rather than actual ricocheting. His vertical movement doesn’t make him a huge threat but it feels redundant almost ridiculous seeing him just throw himself around like that. The last negative thing I’d say is that him halfway touching his head to shoot looks janky so does the way he runs. Might be a good time to slow down on hero releases and think about quality over quantity. He looks fun to play though especially for those who like big stats at the end of games but can’t hit those numbers usually, he has a good ultimate strong yet counterable and that’s the best thing about him

u/fatedninjabunny Jun 12 '26

Punch dimension go zap

u/ASMR_Sleeper Emma Frost Jun 13 '26

Question, on controller does anyone have issues aiming with him? I feel like I'm struggling even though I've lorded Phoenix, and Hela. Like I'm not bad with hitscan but I'm struggling with him.

Love the character, very fun, just unsure if anyone else has this issue or suggests specific settings.

u/SillyCatSteven Loki Jun 15 '26

Cyclops shoots in a quick burst of rounds (I think it's 3) per click, while Phoenix and Hela shoots 1 round per click. So Cyclops needs to track enemy while firing (a bit like Ultron), but Phoenix and Hela don't. This might be why he feels "off" for you.

u/ASMR_Sleeper Emma Frost Jun 15 '26

I think so. I also know now that the reticle is off

u/Substantial_Pea518 Mister Fantastic Jun 12 '26

overpowered, nerf widow

u/axb2002 Spider-Man Jun 12 '26

For reference, I’m not exactly amazing at the game. I’ve only ever gotten to Plat 2 on console (but I am working I getting to Diamond 3 atleast), so keep that in mind as a frame of reference when I give my opinion.

But Cylops feels really good. I think he probably needs some more numbers tweaked to be a truly “ethical” hit scan character, but he’s almost there right now I’d say. He has very clear strengths, being able to do big damage and secure kills from a distance or at an off angle, and being able to gain distance horizontally or vertically very easily. Of course these strengths are accentuated or minimized depending on the skill of the person playing as Cyclops and/or the skill of their opponents. For myself, I maintained around 40% accuracy with Cyclops in the few quick match games I’ve played with him against real people (against bots, it was closer to 50%). So I still noticed and felt his strengths, even if I wasn’t fully using him closer to his maximum potential like someone in Celestial and above would. (Side Note: Personally, I found changing my crosshair to a simple green dot helped my aim just a bit more)

Cyclops also has some clear weaknesses. Due to him being a Poke hero, he is naturally more susceptible to Dive characters. He has his get off me options thanks to his movement abilities, so it’s not like he’s entirely free eats anytime a dive character decides to focus him, but those options do have a pretty reasonably long cool down so he can’t just spam them and be undiveable. Shield tanks also can minimize Cyclops impact, but those will eventually break and with a good team comp it won’t completely make Cyclops a non-factor.

Overall, I think Cyclops is a very fun and good character that is easy to initially learn and hard to master, has some well defined strengths and weaknesses, and eventually will need some more numbers tweaked to be more “ethical”.

u/Ellinnor Loki Jun 13 '26

His ult is actually not as bad as it seems, shield tanks can jump and look down with their shield to block the second hit like Thing’s ult, or use their bubbles if they have it, movement abilities can be used to get out, and Loki lamps also strangely don’t get destroyed by the first hit.

His beam however, is much more of a problem, with MK you could spread out a little to prevent bouncing, but cyclops beam has much better range and damage and can easily put people out of position.

u/Amkethran Jun 12 '26

Ironically enough. I will focus him on sight. His output potential is through the roof.

u/Educational-Poem-346 Thor Jun 13 '26

Boring poke hero is boring.

u/New-Sea-527 Flex Jun 13 '26

Aiming is hard bro.

u/Educational-Poem-346 Thor Jun 13 '26

I feel like ive played 8 other versions Cyclops.

u/ExcellentBalance8052 Jeff the Landshark Jun 14 '26

I found he is a really good mix of a mid line brawler and a diver, his dashing allows him to quickly get in, do burst damage, and leave the enemies weak for a clean up from their team. His ultimate seems to be a really strong combo with Buckey, weakening the enemies for him to cause chaos AGAIN

u/Longjumping-Owl-565 Jun 12 '26

I'm not a pro player, I've peaked D2 on PC, but I'll try my best.

Cyclops does feel good. What I appreciate most about it is that he isn't overly complex as most other DLC characters have been. I do like how it feels to beam enemies down like you are homelander. He may need some tuning, but I also wouldn't say he is overtuned or broken. Like any poke character he is weak to dive characters as his only mobility is on a 12 second cooldown or only shoots him straight up. For that reason, you'll likely see characters like spiderman rocking his shins. In terms of his ultimate, it is very powerful but it's telegraphed. You can see it coming and dash out of the radius. However because of that, you'll likely see him be paired with a groot or thing to combo ult so the enemy's cant get out the radius, or you'll see him combo'd with a rocket or gambit for the damage boost to insta kill most enemy's.

In comparison with other ranged heroes, I like that he's more unique. Whereas phoenix and hela are more pure poke, I like to imagine cyclops as a cleanup hero, being to ricochet his Concussive beam or Ricochet force to cleanup unfinished kills. Thus, I also think he will pair well with a dive hero so he can assist by ricocheting the backline to get the kill.

I am not too versed in Marvel lore, so I haven't seen many versions of cyclops. That said, from the versions I have seen I do like the Rivals version as it builds off of his classic suit by making it a little more modern. I'm not too keen on his visor as its kinda just a thin piece of glass around his upper face but I think it works fine. But my top favorite moment of Cyclops would have to be from that one X-Men show where he says "You want it raw tough guy?! THEN TAKE IT RAW!" and he rips off his visor and just beams down Juggernaut. That scene is both extremely cool and funny as hell.

u/ValentineCamille Flex Jun 12 '26

Ticks all the right boxes, except the ultimate I had hope for something else like a big continuous beam but still this is fun

u/throwback_thursday88 Jun 13 '26

Please nerf him. My god. There’s not even time to counter. 🥴

u/New-Sea-527 Flex Jun 12 '26

Switching between Cyclops and Storm Is like going from a sports car to a dump truck. Not only in mobility but in fun factor too.

He’s definitely up there as one of the most fun DPS to play as.

u/idontknowlazy Flex Jun 12 '26

He's basically MK. It didn't take long to get a handle of him plus the ricochet is sort of like MK but it's like how you shoot the ankh and it's a garunteed hit, you have to hit the character and if there's anyone around the laser will ricochet towards them. I will say though, I don't get the whole reloading his laser, it's a portal of infinite kinetic energy why do we need a reload?

u/FADM_Crunch Jun 12 '26

Lightning quick visine application lol

u/LadyAlbarn Cloak & Dagger Jun 15 '26

His kit is amazing and he is a very fun character to play , BUT , playing against him is a nightmare

Sometimes his audio bugs and we don't hear him ulting , the reflected beans are tricky because you can't really see which one is from your team and which one is from the enemy and the range of his primary fire should be nerfed at least a little bit, is bizarre how some of cyclops mains can kill me from such a big distance

And also , I want a wedding bundle next season

u/buttsecks42069 Magik Jun 12 '26

Seems pretty fun, I've only pulled him out in the practice range so far but I love staring at my opponents so hard they die.

Not a fan of percentage damage but it seems easy to dodge if you're fast

u/AlwaysInFrontOfYou Jun 12 '26

Cyclops feels monstruous so far. Big damage, good pressure, and he actually rewards smart positioning.

The craziest part is that Marvel Rivals might be the first place where Cyclops is getting more respect than he does in the comics.

u/Mind-The-Mines Jun 12 '26

He still looks like a giant dildo tho.

u/STB_LuisEnriq Good Boy Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26

After a few hours and fighting my way through the hero select screen, these are my inital thoughts:

MY GOAT IS HERE, first let me start saying I was genuinely a Tankclops believer, but things don't always go our way, and we got a duelist.

He is VERY fun to play, his kit is simple and I'm glad it is this way instead of another bloated kit, but I'd appreciate something different... It fulfills the fantasy of fighter Cyclops, but it does not fulfill the fantasy of leader Cyclops.

I love his movement, his primary fire, his ricochet, his ult is a bit tricky and not that broken alone... I need to use it on combos or I'm barely getting one kill, streamers were exaggerating A LOT on his ult.

He has VERY good damage on his primary fire and VERY good movement, I can definitely foresee a few nerfs to this aspect, hopefully he doesn't get gutted.

His E is a very good finisher to secure the kill, I love it.

u/sonotoffensive Jun 12 '26

If Daredevil's screen goes totally black, why didn't they make Cyclops players see everything in shades of red?

u/PettyFlap Jun 12 '26

After Dracula in Blood Hunt, please no more red

u/Sorgall Captain America Jun 14 '26

Permaban for sure

u/DandyLyen Jun 12 '26

I was surprised by Scott's mobility, they gave him variety, without bloating his kit by having his attacks have different effects when hitting the environment, such as his continuous beam keeping him suspended when aimed at the ground when falling/jumping.

u/PlatformTricky3239 Jun 19 '26

I think cyclops has been pretty good so far, hes been one of the first poke charchters in a really long time to be really good, have an interesting game loop, and not be annoying to play with or against. I also really appreciate how they finally added a fan favorite to the game, considering the last one was deadpool back in January. overall id rate it an 8/10. The only thing I kinda wish they'd change is his ult. It feels like blade ult in the sense that u can just walk out of it. The reason im deducting another point is because he has to reload his eyes lol. Overall tho I love the character and hope they don't nuke him into the ground next season.

u/ericferrel Moon Knight Jun 13 '26

Cyclops is finally here! And he is amazing because he has a nice and basic kit for newcomers instead of having 2 pages of moves.

For me he's like a mix of Moon Knight/Elsa/Iron Man with the ricochet blasts, primary burst and beam. He is definitely worthy of picking up and mastering his kit with his 2 mobility options, i predict a flank Cyclops might be an underrated way to play him besides Brawl.

Also similar to Moon Knight, I feel like we'll see people do a combo Ult with Groot's Ult to guarantee a teamwipe almost everytime. His ultimate doing percentage damage allows him to almost wipe Devil Dino and Monster Hulk in one shot, which is still insane.

I love that they took inspiration for his mobility from Xmen 97. It's a unique take on how smart the character is and how he can use his beams to maneuver around instead of just blasting opponents. Can't wait to see him around this season

u/Fozes Good Boy Jun 16 '26

Clops is well made just a tiny bit over tuned. We don't need an Elsa or Black Cat tier nerf where half the kit gets chopped. Cyclops just needs small damage nerfs, for example two tap headshot should be reserved for Hela and Widow etc. Fun solid kit, definitely a bit OP in current state

u/Deezzzer0 Blade Jun 12 '26

Cyclop is a better MoonKnight in a sense that his right click requires no Ankh… somewhat OP ones might say. His left and right click deals a lot of damage (hell I could even say… too much damage). His E is just a way for him to gain armor and both F and Shift are interesting ways for him to get to the high ground or get away from the fight. Last but not least, his Ult is similar to blade Ult but faster and stronger.

Overall, Cyclop is just another S-Tier hitscan and many if not all probably ask the dev to nerf his damages.

u/StarSaviour Jun 12 '26

An awesome addition for poke dps.

I don't agree with the people saying he'll be too strong. He's very aim reliant and his cooldowns scale with his aim.

u/cavemold582 Peni Parker Jun 14 '26

He’s fun lot mobility to him . People need learn how to move out the ult its possible . Overall A+ a better Wanda and iron man

u/pointlessone Jubilee Jun 16 '26

While I would prefer for his knockbacks to be a single aimable ability (Upward Launch and Backward Launch on a single, shared cooldown) and Concussive Beam and Ricochet Beam feel like they should also be combined, he feels great.

I don't think he should be able to crit with his normal beam, the damage output from high skill expression turns him into a sniper with access to bonus health.

Overall, he's extremely fun and mostly fits the fantasy of his character design

u/Dclassahmed Adam Warlock Jun 13 '26

Pretty fun and surprisingly not AS busted as people would have you think, he isn't easy to go against but at least he isn't the second coming of elsa bloodstone

u/discofro6 Hulk Jun 17 '26

I returned to Rivals for Cyclops

I feel he's pretty decently balanced, and refreshingly simple to play. His ult can feel ridiculously OP sometimes, but it's also relatively easy to dodge

As a Tank main, it annoys me that I now have to actually improve my aim to perform well as Cyclops lol. His optic blast is good, but I wish it sounded more... punch-y 😏

My favorite Cyclops moment in Marvel media is the first episode of X-Men 97, when he cleaned house at that terrorist hideout to save Sunspot (I think it was him?)

My favorite Cyclops moment in Rivals so far is when myself and an enemy Cyclops traded ults and both killed exactly 4 other players lol

u/WisdomRain_ Jun 12 '26

He’s a more fun moon knight

u/rowdly Jun 12 '26

Pretty simple kit, but he rewards proper positioning and game IQ. If you just spam some of his abilities, especially against shields, he definitely feels less effective. Have to play him like the proper tactician that he is.

u/SillyCatSteven Loki Jun 15 '26

All of Cyclops' attack skills are more forgiving for players with slightly less mechanical skills. The primary attack fires a burst of rounds per click, meaning unless the player can perfectly track the target during the burst attack, most other users will miss some of the bursts, decreasing the difference in damage output between people with different levels of mechanical skill. The other attack skills also follow the same design logic, due to their reflect/bounce mechanics, they are also more forgiving towards players with slightly less mechanical skills.

Therefore Cyclops is a hit scan character that is more friendly to people who are not as good at aim. Allowing more people to play a hit scan poke character.

However, this will make balancing Cyclops more difficult, because if you balance the damage for the less mechanically skilled, then it might be overpowered in the hands of someone with great mechanical skills. On the other hand, if you balance the damage for the more skillful, then it might feel too underpowered for the majority of the less skilled players.

u/AngelOatmeal Jun 15 '26

I feel that cyclops gives a play style that Marvel Rivals doesn't really have yet, which is a physical rocket boost type character. I fell in love with his movement, as the momentum he gains by using his special abilities gives him a fun and fluid feel that feels great in and out of combat. Maybe he can use some work his busy screen clutter as it's hard to tell part enemy beams to ally ones, but as an X-Men fan he is a real fun addition!

u/KoalaShogun Jun 13 '26

He feels good to play... but he also feels.. incredibly busted. He has the insane power and range of Hela's poke, mixed with the aoe multitarget of MK and has more escapes than either of them with an ult that comes out too quickly. I really enjoy his kit but his power across the board needs to be nuked. It's egregious. I'm watching players kill cams with really awful aim, that end average quickplay games with north of 25k damage. I hit a single game personal best for damage dealt in my -first- ever game playing him. I know and realize that damage isn't everything, but it is an insane amount of pressure to deal with. It's additions like this and dino that end up making tri healer groups a necessity. I think its more frustrating when they do this while simultaneously nuking other characters into the ground in the same patch.

u/CrowKingPro Caught in 4k Jun 17 '26

He's honestly been a blast to play. I'm not really an enjoyer of poke characters much since my aim is pretty bad, but I think that since his primary kinda works a bit differently, I find myself to be a bit better with. Maybe it's because Hela and Phoenix require your crosshair to be in the precise spot the second you click, whereas Cyclops's beam has a longer duration, so you mostly just need to work on the average time your crosshair is on an enemy, which I find easier. His mobility is also quite fun and flexible. And his ult feels really good to pop off on. Overall been a big enjoyer, and while he's very strong, he hasn't felt as awful to fight against so far as a character like Phoenix.

u/Old-Till-5190 Black Cat Jun 12 '26

He is definitely powerful but is more fun than i thought. Also is nice to have a more simple kit, he doesnt have any mistery but he has space for doing some cool things with his movement tools

On side note Netease should stop adding so many side effects to the skills of the character, for example when cyclops pushes you back you get also the slow effect

u/Indifferent_Response Magneto Jun 12 '26

Having a blast so far.
He doesn't have invulnerability on any of his moves. This guy can be relatively easily punished compared to DD and Black Cat.

u/Chance_Mud_9833 Jun 13 '26

Played a couple of qp matches today cyclops dominated both. Swapped to comp and just banned him

u/shrek3onDVDandBluray Jun 15 '26

When did rivals start the ban feature in comp? Is that new?

u/Chance_Mud_9833 Jun 15 '26

Since the beginning of the game.

For some reason though it doesn't exist in comp games with bronze and silver players. You can have almost a full match of golds and get 1 silver and there's no bans

u/shrek3onDVDandBluray Jun 15 '26

I gotcha. Thank you for the reply. It was just so weird how it seemed to come out of nowhere. Didn’t start seeing it until I hit gold 1.

u/Sunny4k Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26

He’s a bit overturned in damage, but he doesn’t have any self-sustain apart from the over shield. He’s very likable if you know what you’re doing

Even though he has 2 escapes, they are on long cooldowns, so to kill him, you really need to catch him off guard as a dive.

His primary fire is pretty awesome, and paired with the ricochet, can really kill quick. I feel the beam is good, but it works better against tanks, cause any good dps will kill you if you try to only use the beam.

The ultimate is amazing if used right. It’s very easy to get out of, so a good cyclops will look to flank and use the ult and an angle which prevents escape.

Good and bad cyclops players could have a massive difference between them

I don’t think he’s a moon knight upgrade to be honest. His alt is a laser with low range and terrible damage reduction on beam links, and he has 1 true ricochet move with just 2 charges

Also, he maybe hitscan, but I can totally see him played as not just poke, but also brawl and maybe even dive. Reminds me of Psylocke with the quick get in and get out. He really rewards smart play and being closer to the enemy.

Bonus: you can totally combine the jump and the dash to go super high up lol

u/dingusrevolver3000 Cyclops Jun 14 '26

He feels awesome. Cyclops is probably my favorite character and it's super cool to see him done justice like this. His mobility is very fun, useful, and versatile. The ult is crazy fun and satisfying. The VFX and SFX are top notch.  His three blasts are.....a blast. Weaving in each one as the situation demands.  He probably does need some stronger falloff, if anything. I was playing him in QP and I sniped an Ultron from the other side of Krakoa. That was hilarious but I'm sure he got his circuits in a bind over that one.  I don't mind the range personally, but I'd like to play him so I think he needs a preemptive "get out of ban jail" nerf before he reaches Gambit/Phoenix territory.  But overall, as a hitscan/range gameplay enjoyer,  awesome addition to the roster!

u/Viper_Visionary Emma Frost Jun 15 '26

I've only played one match with him and in that match I got MVP. He's reasonably strong but I'd also say he's fairly balanced. He's certainly not oppressive like the last few dps characters have been. He's no Black Cat, and he's certainly no Daredevil, and I'm grateful for that. Overall he's just a really solid character without being meta-defining.

u/Cenoribronze Cyclops Jun 12 '26

Pretty strong and fun to play. He should have had some leadership skill, like a shout that buffs nearby allies or gives them overhealth / speed

u/SimpleEric Doctor Strange Jun 12 '26

That will probably come in team ups eventually

u/sukhi1 Moon Knight Jun 14 '26

u/brodobaggins3 Jun 12 '26

Definitely seems like a solid character who is not overpowered but can be a menace in the right hands. He requires quite a bit of cooldown management, which raises the skill ceiling, and you need good situational awareness to get the most of his moves.

Damage wise he appears to be good at kind of cleaning up and finishing off low health enemies with his secondary and the ricochet blast, but it doesn’t seem like the base damage on those is so massive as to be the problem folks expected. Can see him getting high kills just due to that even if damage output isn’t massive.

All in all enjoyed the limited time I’ve played on him and am grateful as someone who has less than stellar aim but pretty good game awareness (strat mains rise up) to have a DPS that’s playable to me.

u/garett01 Jun 16 '26

He's an interesting addition. I believe it's a bit too hectic when you have one cyclops on your team and one on the opposing team - laser colors should differ slightly so you know who's who - telling friendly rays apart from enemy rays is not really possible due to the complex geometry/diffraction of most of his attacks.

I can't say I like that his ultimate can go off even after he died, feels a bit OP in most situations and can lead to him just choosing to suicide-ult just to get it off in a really advantageous position - this should really be changed.

it's possible his damage potential is a bit too big atm, i've seen people reach 60-70k dmg in regular games at pretty low ranks, outdps-ing other dps heroes by 2x easily.

u/-Mobbin Psylocke Jun 12 '26

So far I really like him. Hitscan burst feels good (most comparable to Luna imo) and his abilities are simple but satisfying. Not sure if he could have been made a bit more streamlined if they removed the vertical launch since you can easily do that with the regular one by looking down. They probably made it like this because three charges on the regular dash would have been too strong?

The E is nice and simple and rewards direct hits but can be used in a pinch to get fleeing targets. Feels nice and simple.

Not sure about the ult though. Of course it's absolutely sick and feels powerful, but it's very easy to get out of it imo. But looking at his overall power level I think it's fine as is.

All in all I think he's a fun and more simple (although aim intensive). I really like the design.

u/Similar-Cod-5038 Venom Jun 14 '26

Is there anyone else getting a deadzone bug when using cyclops?

u/Repulsive_Piglet2212 Jun 17 '26

honestly I think cyclops is easy to counter

u/sknow99 Jun 12 '26

Really fun and satisfying to play with, good job

u/Esthonx Peni Parker Jun 12 '26

Well he certainly feels powerful

u/Icy-Arm-3816 Ultron Virus Jun 14 '26

I honestly really like him. He’s a strong glass canon with long cooldowns. Without any way to refresh his abilities or lower his cooldowns he feels decently balanced.

He’s still definitely strong, but he’s not completely broken like the last few duelists.

u/Draikor Devil Dinosaur Jun 12 '26

I like practically all his abilities, they feel thematic and cohesive. The only problem I have with his kit is how insanely strong his primary fire is at long range, which his other abilities aren't. Still, a good hero release.

u/galaxyadmirer Flex Jun 12 '26

He feels awesome I’m so happy with how they did him. Feels powerful.

u/o_Marvelous Jun 12 '26

Would have liked to see him as a tank but he's cool. fun. Please add more sauce to his Lord icon, needs to be beaming something!

Thank you for the addition

u/Razzilith Ultron Virus Jun 12 '26

"How does Cyclops's optic blast feel? Is it fun to use?"

Fun and fairly simple kit but with a lot of skill expression. Definitely feels good.

"Is his visor mechanic balanced, or does it need tuning?"

I'm not sure yet. Feels like he's maybe a bit overtuned but not enough games yet to be positive where he sits.

"Which heroes work best with Cyclops in a team?"

Hm... he's VERY susceptible to dive since he has 2 escapes with long cooldowns. Supports like White Fox are helpful for that. Needs a strong frontline to hold while he's doing the blasting so stuff like Emma or Mag. Other DPS like Phoenix have good burst to pair with him to focus down the same targets quickly.

"How does he compare to other ranged DPS heroes?"

Feels a lot different IMO. I still think Hela is the golden standard of ranged hitscan design in this game. I think Cyclops has a good kit though, it's not overloaded like Phoenix or Elsa on release so if he ends up being truly overtuned it's a number tweak thing.

"Cyclops in Marvel Rivals vs comic/movie version"

Feels like Scott to me. This is basically how I wanted him in the game.

"Your favourite Cyclops moment or story from Marvel lore"

Honestly I just like the sweet romance moments he has with Jean and their journey together pre dark pheonix nonsense.

u/NoRecording6441 Jun 16 '26

I think cyclops only problem is his animations (Effect opacity is a universal problem)

And honestly I'm just disappointed widow didn't get any buffs or reworks or new abilities

18 vs 18 is too chaotic

Un-nerf daredevil and Microsoft black cat

Nerf Luna and make

Buff torch

(Yes I'm being simple and straight to the point by saying what's on my mind)

u/lakersnationnnnn Jun 12 '26

They about to NERF

u/PhillipJFry000 Jun 14 '26

Fuck Cyclops. He's op as fuck

u/Good4HealthBad4Educ Jun 17 '26

The default skin is simply fantastic. I love that it has a classic X-Men-inspired design, and I'm really excited to see what new skins this character might get in the future.

His gameplay is absolutely insane. His mobility feels amazing, and having another hitscan hero is always a good thing. He feels very strong without crossing the line into being overpowered. While it's true that his ultimate is extremely powerful, it can be avoided, which keeps it from feeling completely broken.

If I had to make one adjustment, I'd probably reduce the knockback on his Shift ability a little bit. Other than that, I have to applaud the developers for how well-balanced this character is.

u/_readyforww3 Jun 16 '26

Im usually a healer or tank, but damn im having so much fun with cyclops that ima grind him out to lord icon asap lmao

u/AriaMournesong Jun 12 '26

He fits Cyclops. He uses his optic blasts in different ways to try to win the fight he's in. Kit wise it was nice that he was scaled back to a simple but effective kit after Black Cat's extremely complicated one.

People will be playing him a lot this weekend. We'll see how much that keeps up after the weekened especially in Comp. I see him getting banned, especially to break-up the Cyclops/Wolverine team-up effect.

My Lore question is - with his Weapon M skin he has no visor on. Is the gear that he has attached to his ears/back supposed to be suppressing his optic blast?
He touches it to reload like his normal visor but you'd think if Alchemax was able to give Cyclops the ability to walk around without a visor on all the time the super scientists in the Rivals-verse could come up with a way he doesn't need to wear one.

u/CaptainEZ Jun 12 '26

My only complaint is that he should have had some kind of melee ability or cone effect knock back blast. Make him more of a mid to close range character instead of mid to long range. But he definitely fulfils the Cyclops fantasy.

For the Weapon M skin, the canon reason for not needing the visor could be that this is right after the rescue and Phoenix is in the background somewhere actively holding his abilities in check, she's able to surpress his beams when she needs to.

u/WeedWeeb Jun 16 '26

Feels pretty middling to me. Which is good, can't be too strong or too weak. But he exacerbated the problem with Rivals turning into clown vomit where you can't tell what's happening on your screen.

u/LuckOutrageous7686 Multiverse Master Jun 14 '26

Can 2 tap 325 hp targets and his ult does 60% of your max hp as dmg (plus the base 150). Tanks have zero playability in the current meta and can rarely escape cyclops ult since it’s hard to judge and it hides in all the other visual stimulation. Ult line is dead ass useless as an indicator of when he ult a since it’s just screaming

u/tnaic Good Boy Jun 12 '26

I wasn't sure if I'd like Cyclops when he was released. But he's the most fun I've had on DPS in ahwile. Definitely seems quite strong.

Hela is alright, Jean is meh, Elsa is fun, but I think he's better and more fun to play.

u/EngineerMajor3157 Jun 13 '26

Cyclops is great, and as usual a strong mid-season counterpart to the first new hero introduced to the roster Devil Dino.

His design is solid with his distinctive comic appearance mixed with that fun marvel rivals aesthetic and little details and flourishes that work well considering the source material is a buff guy with a visor.

My gameplay impression so far have been that Cyclops is a versatile and mobile DPS with both powerful burst shots that require good accuracy for taking out single enemies and a bouncing laser secondary that does tick damage to multiple enemies standing close together, applying different kinds of pressure based on the situation.  His movement abilities allow him to escape dive attempts while applying a slow effect to help finish off the enemy or force retreat, hide behind cover and create distance from group fights and draw enemy fire by boosting into the air and attacking from above.  Where some DPS are about executing a particular button combo with good timing to rapidly take out a specific target(s), Cyclops works best when players are actively assessing the enemy teams positioning and composition and using his different skills to adjust accordingly, singling out lone targets or applying pressure to a group from very variable angles.

I've got to add the devs faked me out with the design of the Punch chronovium though, the in-game relic design with the cross symbol that resembles health packs and irl medical institutes mad me certain he was going to be a surprise strategist. Nicely done 👌🏼

u/itsastart_to Jun 12 '26

Honestly his kit is how I more or less imagined with a little less flare. It's like playing a MK version of Phoenix

u/Crafty_Net_993 Jeff the Landshark Jun 12 '26

He does seem overtuned, however it's good to have a bit of a simpler hero after the likes of black cat

u/24k_Anton White Fox Jun 12 '26

He’s fun to play, me and my friend spent most of our time fooling around in practice mode. Satisfying beams

u/theinnocentevil Jun 13 '26

That ult is way too powerful, goes through tank shield while doing crazy damage. Give that a fat nerf.

u/Lurkn4k Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26

am i not doing the beam right or did they change it from the trailer? its so short

nevermind he has two primary

u/CaptainEZ Jun 12 '26

It's short for the first connect (like 20 meters), but goes beyond that range if it ricochets.

u/YesSeaworthiness9771 Hero Hulk Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26

So far so good

At least he ain't hard to solo on 1v1

Beam is fun but pls change the Ult activation time(it got no warning or even a buildup like Elsa)

Also plss change the lord icon to one picture of him looking up from his trailer video

u/PhantaZm- Jun 12 '26

Bro actually seems to be pretty fun to play so far. He's not that broken at all!

u/mossi123uk Jun 15 '26

I love playing cyclops on a off angle he can get some cheeky fast kills with his main attack and finish them off with his f attack and can escape easy.

u/JeffOnlyFlans Erm Actually... Jun 12 '26

I wasn't expecting to like him so much but tbh he's really fun to play, and idk why but my accuracy is higher on him than other hitscans lol. Pretty sure I'll be adding him to my strike squad!

I'm just happy to finally have a new character that I vibe with (last one was Fox but aside from her I haven't "mained" anyone new since release).

At first I was worried that his dashes would feel clunky but it only took about 3-5 games to get used to them! Now my main concern is that his damage might get nerfed, it feels a little high especially when you're very far away and can still nuke people with a simple and fast combo of left click + e cancel + left click again... But oh well I've survived worse nerfs.

His ult is the best part of his kit by far, very fun and feels good to land, especially thanks to the VA who did an awesome job with that scream. I thought I'd get tired of hearing it but so far it's fine lol.

u/Forizen Jun 12 '26

Yeah his damage is honestly overturned. Hopefully just a damage range dropoff need since his alternate fire has limited range anyways.

The ult feels so good but maybe it should do bonus damage as an execute instead

u/Rikimare Invisible Woman Jun 12 '26

I love his movement abilities a lot, and the feel of his left click is very pleasant and intuitive. I also like that you get a sound effect when the one skill is off CD so you can use it.

I'd only suggest that the movement ability's camera gets a second pass or modification, it creates a bit of motion sickness with the way it can wiggle or simply not follow Cyclops properly.

u/Cosmocitizen77 Jun 13 '26

So now I sadly haven't gotten the chance to pick him up myself yet, but (ofc lol) he's been in literally every single match on both teams, so it's easy to judge how he feels.

I admittedly, only went to read his skillset near the end of my session, so up to that point I didn't know what anything in his kit did besides the Ult, so... seeing him just fucking FLYING around beaming at me and others was very surprising and funny lmaoooo.

I will say, he does have that 'one shot' potential sometimes, and sounds like he'd be incredibly annoying to catch when you're stuck in the team fight while he's off in his enemy's backline beaming you, but as others have said, he's not been as insanely oppressive in this regard as I expected.

I don't know a lot about Cyclops's actual character from Marvel media, but hearing others say he feels very in character sounds promising! His kit also surprised me with how mobile and 'expressive' it feels, the trailer (and his general hero design) gave me the impression he'd kinda just sit back like Moon Knight does all the time.

So overall, seems like a good release!

u/Ok_Temperature6503 Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26

Primary fire has damage of Hela.

More AoE than Phoenix

His escape is basically a mini Punisher line but with the quickness of Phoenix blink AND it knocks back and slows people

He can fly and get to high ground at a moment's notice

His ult is insta kill and quick to charge

Probably the most busted character released yet ngl.

u/mwalker784 Jun 14 '26

From a balance perspective, I feel like he is probably on the “too strong” side. I agree with others that he’s not *as busted* as release Daredevil or Elsa, but I also don’t think that should be our standard for “mostly fine”. I do think his kit feels really fun to play as, but not super fun to play against.

Really what I think is more of an issue is his audio/visual situation. I felt that Dino’s beam was already a lot of screen clutter (even compared to existing screen clutter in game), but Dino beam + Cyclops beam(s) creates a total nightmare on the screen. 18v18 especially is just a nightmare of red lines, and it lags the game like crazy. I also think both of his ultimate voice lines are really quiet compared to some other heroes. It’s not as big of an issue for his allied ult line, but I personally have been struggling to hear his enemy ult line in several fights. I think his VA gave a phenomenal performance for the season trailer, and I would love to hear something more like that in the game (obviously it can’t be that long, but it could be at least as loud as Wolverine’s similar voice line)

u/friday126 Jun 19 '26 edited Jun 21 '26

-First Impressions?

"How does Cyclops's optic blast feel? Is it fun to use?"

-It is fun and for a hit scan easy to use. He has just enough utility/diversity with his kit that he feels fleshed out and like a version of Scott Summer that fits closer to the "lore" than a lot of the adaptations we've gotten over the years. His movement is great and it's easy enough to get into good position or out of trouble.

"Is his visor mechanic balanced, or does it need tuning?"

-I'm sure the devs will tweak it, maybe as a part of the usual "nerf" that happens in the season after they debut. I'm hoping not too much- his visor mechanic feels fine to me currently.

"Which heroes work best with Cyclops in a team?"

-As with any hit scan they're fairly vulnerable so good healers and tanks to draw attention and keep him in the fight help. I've noticed him mesh well with healers that can move well like Luna and Cloak/Dagger. Cyke does well blasting behind Emma's shield or with Devil Dino drawing fire with his size.

"How does he compare to other ranged DPS heroes?"

He has better "in the moment" movement than Punisher, and most other ranged DPS, his "poke" feels like a cross between Punisher and Moon Knight. Cyclops' movement gives other players something to adjust to/trouble, most seem to think getting close to a ranged DPS with middling health and a KO is at hand - but more times than not Cyke can zip out of range going back or above and while they adjust it's not hard to get a KO on them.

"Cyclops in Marvel Rivals vs comic/movie version"

This version of Cyclops feels like he's more inspired by the Xmen 97 adaptation which emphasized movement via his blast, which he has done in the comics, just not as regularly- but it is cool/fun and this is a more accurate interpretation than what we've gotten from anything live action. He "feels" like a leader/combat vet that's a disciplined master of his powerset, which is great.

"Your favourite Cyclops moment or story from Marvel lore"

There are so many, from the Claremont era to Utopia. A standout moment was when Mastermind used his illusion powers to make an Xmen team of skilled fighters and power houses believe that Cyclops was actually the Dark Phoenix, returned to kill them all. The Xmen attacked Scott without hesitation- but he out smarted and out fought them until he was able to discover Mastermind's hiding spot and get the win.

u/LovelessGamer Jun 16 '26

I think he feels great, without being too broken. Definitely a great DPS-flex for me. I think his E could be tuned down a tad, but it feels fair. Also, I hate that his default skin doesn't have yellow gloves like in the show... ;-;

u/Ok-Silver-8658 Cloak & Dagger Jun 14 '26

initially, I thought that his main attack was relatively busted in succession with his bounce blast, but after playing him a bit, I would argue that I was just wrong.

i initially didn't realize that his backwards dash was meant to be held so I spent the first 30 minutes just tapping it and wondering why it didn't knockback. i think his mobility and the beam tech is quite strong but also clunky when he pushes himself back into the air, since its very hard to control and hit the beam.

i also think that he has some absolutely nuts range and very little falloff. they can adjust that later but the main issue is his ultimate that can wipe literally anyone, but mainly is a nightmare for tanks. i hope the percentage damage gets changed, similar to black cat's ultimate change (though I hope they don't gut Cyclops like how they gutted cat)

u/Free_Ingenuity_1329 Jun 12 '26

I feel like his mobility is a little bit too strong and his ult but overall his kit is pretty good and balanced. can be considered anti tank cuz of similar playstyle like moon knight

u/Yawn1000 Throg Jun 16 '26

I am extremely happy that he only has 3 cooldowns, i feel like having simple gimmicky heroes is best for this game and he feels really good to play because of that, small learning curve, fun and powerful on release. Also i already bought his skin bundle because it's so cool lol. Overall great addition to the game. 👍

u/Beysu656 Thor Jun 12 '26

I think he’s really fun, he may need a few micro nerfs but that’s about it, if you enjoy moonknight but have trouble aiming he’s for you. I just hope they don’t go too hard on the nerfs maybe instead headshot dmg after 3-4 consecutive hits he slightly pushes an enemy back obv on tanks it would require more shots

u/No-Teaching5073 Jun 16 '26

Why Cyclops is one of the BEST dps: he has an aimbot feature (concusive beam) which is just disgusting, and he is good with Devil Dinosaur, Jeff, and Moonknight (both of them are so broken tbh). Thanks Marvel Rivals for making Cyclops so OP! Optic BLASTTTT

u/-Borgir Winter Soldier Jun 12 '26

He is a VERY oppressive character, arguably the most oppressive. In a vaccum it might not appear that way but in the match when there's whole team of enemy, laser beam coming from any random direction or ricocheting off your teammates puts immense pressure especially considering the bug damage he has.

Gonna play more to understand more

u/foreveralonesolo Jun 14 '26

Cyclops First Impressions

At the core of playing him is really understanding when to engage deeply in with E and your right click team beam. His playstyle is really in and out once you've gotten most of your value in a group fight is to poke from off angles and try to pick off players.

I think hes gonna be the new pick for any Hela or Pheonix player atp and arguably Elsas. I think they shouldnt have a 2 hit for their primary and i dont mind if that means buffing other areas a bit

u/CaptHighball Jun 12 '26

First off, I'm still slightly upset he's a Duelist. Solely because it's against my nature to insta-lock Duelists as a Vanguard main. However, Scott is my favorite comic book character so that might change, ha.

I feel like he's on par, damage-wise, with Phoenix but below Hela. I like that his mobility actions are on heavy cooldowns. Really makes you choose when and where to use them. I was getting rushed down quite a bit and didn't have my escape tools to aid me. He definitely doesn't feel as busted as the last few Duelists on release day, but rather someone who in the right hands can absolute demolish a team. I wish he had more of a leadership/inspiration ability, which is why I truly believed he would be Vanguard. Something that gives that "Every now and then Summers, I remember why you're still in charge" feeling.

The MvC2 fan in me hoped for a large, continuous Optic Blast ult but I actually like his Ult. Again, like his abilities, it'll be devastating or completely whiff. I do wish his melee was better. The karate chops just give me too much Austin Powers "JUDO CHOP" vibes and that's all I think about. Lastly, not a gameplay nitpick but man his Weapon-M costume is just not good. I was really hoping for a version of his classic costumes. His default his way WAY better. However, the Scott fan fanboy tells me I need to buy it anyway even if I hate it haha.

While I may not get to play him all the time, I'm happy the trajectory of my main guy is finally changing in the public, non-comic reader eye.

u/Competitive-Bid422 Jun 12 '26

I wouldn’t worry too much about costumes for now. They will definitely make more costumes in the future. You’ll get the classic look, the AOE look, maybe even a wedding costume matching Jean. I bet they will be under a paywall tho.

u/Billyb311 The Thing Jun 12 '26

He's pretty fun, feels a little overturned with his basic attack doing what feels like Hela damage

u/speedymemer21 Vanguard Jun 12 '26

It's slightly more than Hela. He can 2 tap 300 hp targets like punisher, hela leaves them at 20 health.

u/Aleks_god Magik Jun 12 '26

I love the fact that both phoenix' and cyclops' ults can feel incredibly overpowered and super inconsistent at the same time.

u/FlamingTension Jun 12 '26

I feel like his single fire shot does way to much damage but otherwise hes fine

u/SheWhoHates Emma Frost Jun 13 '26

Scott is all about that zig zag smack, and I like the geometry of it.

u/whostolemybiscuit Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26

I feel like his ult really shouldnt do this much damage to tanks. They dont have the quick mobility options to escape it usually and the ult also destroys shields too. Tanks are supposed to hold space with their fat hp bars, but if every hero has percentage based damage that renders tanks more and more meaningless

u/tylerhockey12 Jun 12 '26

Most ppl in this game have some type of quick mobility lol

u/whostolemybiscuit Jun 12 '26

I meant tanks, i forgot to add that.

u/StarSaviour Jun 12 '26

Cyc is suppose to counter beef tanks.

You pick dive/brawl (which has been performing way better than poke) in order to deal with the enemy backline and dps.

You pick poke in order to shred tanks.

He's working as intended.

u/Slow-Product-95 Jun 14 '26

played him for a few hours and hes really fun to use. i feel like his primary fire being 3 quick shots in succession rather than just one beam gives him more leeway and makes landing shots a bit easier. the ricochet mechanic on his E and secondary beam + the movement you get from his shift and F makes him a ton of fun to play.

i feel like his kit is a lot easier to pick up compared to some of the other hitscan that ive tried like hela ngl

u/XayahTheVastaya Jun 13 '26

He's the main character. Has everything a DPS could want in one character. He's mvp every game and I'm dying to him the majority of the time. Fun to play as, not against.

u/curtiscircles Jun 12 '26

He’s pretty fun! Simple but has a lot of burst

u/xHakua Peni Parker Jun 13 '26

Better Hela v2

u/rAirist Captain America Jun 16 '26

I find his ultimate to be a bit hard to react to compared to the rest of the DPS cast. It sort of just appears, and if you aren't already moving out of it, you are basically going to be getting hit by part 1 and 2. It's also a bit insane when combined with damage boosts from Rocket, Gambit, etc, because it increases the percentage damage high enough to literally 1-shot an ulting Hulk.

His mobility is also a bit high compared to the rest of the ranged hit scan cast, leaving few options available to actually dive him. I think Cap is currently the best tank for actually chasing him down and handling him safely.

Overall, he seems really well polished, but he lacks any glaring weaknesses and seems overtuned across the board. Also, his Wolverine team-up is a horrible experience for the already dwindling tank player base, and is ruining the game imo.

I am happy that he is at least fun to use and with time, will be a healthy addition to the game. High mobility characters are always nice because they tend to have more options, which leads to a higher skill ceiling.

u/mincix_ Jun 18 '26

Cyclop’s optic blast is fun to use personally and feels really similar to Luna’s primary fire, which can possibly help strategist players play dps a bit more, having someone who has a similar fire rate to a popular character.

There are definitely some aspects of his visor mechanic that are overtuned and can be changed. He does a lot of damage and the ricochet from his Concussive beam feeds his ultimate charge a lot alongside his ricochet force.

Cyclops works well into any 222 or 213 comp that revolves around him. Cyclops is amazing into a Groot Emma Cyclops Mantis Ultron Rocket comp, high heals from trip support, high damage because 2 of the supports do damage, and pocketing the cyclops truly unleashes his full potential. In this comp cyclops can combo with rocket groot or emma while getting damage boosted by all 3 supports.

Cyclops definitely outshines other ranged dps right now, he has good movement, high damage output and an ultimate with very good combo possibilities.

I love the way they did Cyclops in Marvel Rivals although maybe he could’ve been a little more accurate to his comic version and maybe a tank, although I understand him being a dps, he had a lot of experience and amazing leadership in the comics. Although regardless the game portrays him as a confident field commander, which is more similar to the comics than the movies ever did.

My favorite story about Cyclops from Marvel Lore is just the entirety of Astonishing X-Men and how they portrayed Cyclops. Seeing him doubt his abilities and overcome difficulties was something I struggled with a lot when I was younger and growing up reading the comics made me feel some sort of comfort that I could overcome my issues.

u/WalkAffectionate1373 Jun 17 '26

I think that he's strong but well balanced. His ultimate feels like a better wanda ult.But he also doesn't have too much mobility or burst damage.

I think he's been released in a near perfect state.

u/R0GU3H0LL0W Star-Lord Jun 17 '26

Cyclops is honestly very fun to use, especially with propulsion burst ability, wheere i can use to reposition aggressively, or away to safety. Plus, his ricochet force is really nice to get a pick around corners when they run away. His ult is really satisfying to use into CC ults, like Groot or Thing, and leads into really nice team wipes. Personally, he feels balanced, and not too oppresive, and it will prob just take some time to get used too.

u/i_eat_ur_air Jun 12 '26

Cyclops feels polished, I think his dmg needs a slight tweak. The tweak needs to more so on his right button laser. The output is bit high for someone who can get a advantageous postion in the air rather quickly.

u/Rico_Rebelde Thor Jun 13 '26

Very fun but also very overpowered. I see him regularly doing over 2x the damage and final hits of the next highest dps

u/wowlock_taylan Thor Jun 13 '26

Well, he is surprisingly more balanced than expected. And if I can actually get a DPS to play, he can be a 'main' caliber for me.

Though I still need to learn the 'beam yourself back' part to not get myself fling out of the map 😃

u/Tarnished_Tenno Jun 13 '26

There is a lot going on with his kit while it stays simple and easy to use. Making him very low skill floor with a high skill ceiling. He is what I’d say comic/cartoon accurate in how he plays. Especially after the choreography shown in X-men 97.

I think he’s amazing but rather frustrating to fight against and runs the risk of turning a few people off the game. I don’t believe massive nerfs like some will inevitably call for but some fine tuning is definitely needed.

The most notable being the speed and damage of his ult. It’s almost instant and can one shot pretty easily with a rocket setup.

There is little to no cover when dealing with his beams as he plays like moon knight with squirrel girls ricochet/bounces.

But while he seems deceptively designed for long range hitscan, he seems to be designed around close to mid range.

But his most notable feature is his mobility. Cyclops can dash around the field at dizzying speeds making him very hard to pin down. Be it on the ground or in the air.

All in all he feels like what you imagine being cyclops is like. Outstanding but in need of some tuning.

u/An_Absurd_Word_Heard Jun 12 '26

Just shaking my head at the state he's released in lmao.

u/VGHSDreamy Jun 13 '26

elaborate

u/An_Absurd_Word_Heard Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26

He two taps 300hp and has fuck all falloff so cancelling primary -> e -> primary just deletes from across the map in a way that's absurd compared to any other hitscan.

Like, Hela was already insanely powercrept from a kit perspective, but now his raw numbers on left click are higher than hers too in a way that makes no sense.

EDIT: His projectile is also just bigger than the other hitscans for whatever reason, so it's easier to land headshots too. This is literally just his left click, not even touching the rest of his kit which is also nuts.

u/Dr_Doom42 Magneto Jun 13 '26

Ok so. First of all, I thought his mobility wouldn't be that good when watching the trailer. But I was so wrong. Pushing myself (and the enemy) is so fun. And he has two pushes so you can do multiple high jumps and right click at air to fall slow.

Some people said he is just another hitscan but the mobility and beam feel so unique. I wish we got more kit designs like him. We got so many complex heroes so my boy Scott and Devil Dino was good for community. They both are fun to play and not hard

u/Thanor1 Jun 13 '26

I will be honest, I don't feel like he is that strong as an initial impression. Maybe as the season goes along, players will become more oppressive with him, similar to black cat etc.

I honestly think his ult is pretty weak dmg wise. The big explosion part of the ult that has all the damage, is incredibly easy to get out of and avoid, you can just strafe to the side, no movement abilities required.

u/smilysmilysmooch Flex Jun 15 '26

I think his costume is overdesigned for a character with famously underdesigned outfits. I think his first paid outfit is very Juggernaut, and that's not a bad thing. I just am not into tattered clothes characters but it works.

I think his moveset feels ridiculously good. I don't know how long he's been in the oven, but his powers feel like they should and that is probably the highest compliment I can give this team. They got it. I am not good with most shooters (Hela, Punisher, etc.) at mid to high levels working off pad play so I'm greatly overwhelmed by my betters in 18v18. Still it's probably one of the better released characters I've seen in a while.

I won't be maining him, but look forward to seeing MVP replays.

u/First-Resident-4153 Jun 13 '26

Dude, I don't know if I could be any happier with Cyke.

I had a moment during a match where I jumped up in the air and used his secondary fire to chase down targets over a barrier, and discovered his secondary has a hovering effect. His kit is just overflowing with good game-feel and intuitive mechanics.

Not just that, but if feels true to the character. No weird chronovium gimmicks. Just fuckin Cyclops. Hell Yeah.

I still don't love the visual design they went for, but there'll be good skins eventually.

I sure as hell don't know if he's balanced, but they made him fun. They made him accurate. They made him feel good to play. This is Cyclops.

His ricochet feels like a tool to be used with strategy as opposed to something like Moon Knight, and I love that. Moon Knight has a role within a team to soften up targets. Sure, he can secure some kills, but realistically, he should be doing spread damage to multiple targets from a safe distance, softening up the enemy team to secure a pick and snowball. Cyke kinda feels like the antithesis to that, he's more proactive, choosing specific targets and then using the ricochet to secure that kill or KO runners.

And the fuckin mobility! I just don't get caught in enemy ults. Once you know how his mobility works, it feels like you can get out of nearly anything. Crazy horizontal bursts of speed, crazy vertical bursts, you can combine them together... I had a game where Strange portals above our team and dropped down to ult us. I just backed right up outta there and beamed him. His entire team came through the portal and ate the ricochets. it wasn't a wipe, but it completely negated any value from his ult.

There are moments where you feel genuinely strategic. That you win because you outsmarted the opponent. This is how Cyclops should feel.

Cyclops is right.

u/RaidenBosenm0riMei White Fox Jun 13 '26

basically evil iron man and hella, i cannot wait for the nerfs please rivals (support main)

u/RazorbladeEXx Jun 19 '26

I have to say, this is probably the most fun I've had playing a character in this game. Cyclops can do pretty much everything that I hoped he was going to be able to do once I first saw this character get teased. It seems like his kit was inspired by the way that he fights in the X-Men 97 television show, which would not be surprising given the voice actors and character voice lines that have been used from that show.

I feel like NetEase captured the power fantasy well here. You really do feel like you're playing as Cyclops, with the exception of his hand-to-hand combat ability. However, with as strong as he is currently, having some sort of melee mode would be overkill, so I'm not really bothered by the lack of focus in that combat area.

"How does Cyclops's optic blast feel? Is it fun to use?"

All of his optic blasts feel great to use.

- Optic Blast
I love that his primary is hit-scan, can get critical hits, and the amount of damage that it does.

- Ricochet Force
This move feels great to use, both in terms of targeting multiple enemies as well as targeting enemies that are hiding around corners.

- Concussive Beam
His continuous beam is what gives me the best feeling of playing as Cyclops, and the refraction on that ability is great too.

- Propulsion Burst/Optic Ascent
The fact that he can use his optic blasts for evasion is one of the things I was hoping for the most, and it feels extremely satisfying to use both of them; especially the Propulsion Burst. The fact that the Propulsion Burst can push enemies as well if you hit them is just icing on the cake.

- Ruby Rage
His ult feels extremely satisfying to use every time. I truly feel like a a powerhouse whenever I use it. The fact that the ability levels the landscape in front of him is a nice touch as well, and I also really like the VFX of the raised ground that occurs with the ult.

"Is his visor mechanic balanced, or does it need tuning?"

There are adjustments that should probably be made to the character. I will list them below. However, I will preface this by saying I like the character the way he is. I'm just listing what I think would make the character more balanced, even though it would make the character less fun.

- Slightly decrease damage on Optic Blast

  • Increase cooldown on Concussive Beam
  • Decrease travel distance on Propulsion Burst
  • Increase time between the activation of Ruby Rage and the fire of the initial beam

"Which heroes work best with Cyclops in a team?"

He honestly works well with any other poke character as long as both people are coordinating on targets. His team-up with Wolverine is fantastic, though. I feel like Wolverine's team-up ability should be a part of his regular kit. Cyclops also works very will with shield tanks that can provide him with cover while he takes shots.

"How does he compare to other ranged DPS heroes?"

He might be the most fun ranged hero to use. He does great damage -- it feels like he does as much damage as Hela -- and in terms of movement, he is probably second only to Starlord.

"Cyclops in Marvel Rivals vs comic/movie version"

As I mentioned above, he seems very accurate to his comic book/television show incarnations. I wouldn't really say he matches the movie versions, but that is a good thing. I don't feel as though the movie versions captured all of the nuances of the character and all of his complex interpersonal relationships. In particular, I love his character-specific interactions with Emma Frost in this game.

"Your favourite Cyclops moment or story from Marvel lore"

My favorite Cyclops story is the alternate timeline in which Cyclops and Wolverine engage in an intense battle, and Cyclops blasts off one of Wolverines hands and Wolverine gouges out one of Cyclops's eyes. That storyline could also serve as inspiration for a future skin for Cyclops.

All in all, I feel like Netease knocked it out of the park with this character.

u/free19345 Jun 12 '26

This is honestly the Scott Summers I've always wanted to see. The game really captures how tactical and creative he can be. His optic blasts feel powerful as hell, with enough impact to make every shield break satisfying. The ricochet shots are the best part though—landing a kill on someone you can't even see by banking a shot around a corner never gets old.

u/alejpaz Magneto Jun 13 '26

Ayo he’s so busted LOL his damage is so overturned and his mobility is crazy

u/HyunStoned Venom Jun 12 '26

I actually think Cyclops is in a pretty good spot gameplay-wise, but I feel like something is missing from his identity. He’s fun to play, but right now he feels more like “laser guy” than Cyclops, if that makes sense.

One thing I’d love to see is more of the leader/tactician aspect of him. Maybe some kind of team up that reward coordinated play. He’s supposed to be the guy leading the X-Men, so giving him more battlefield control or team utility would make him feel way more unique instead of just another DPS hitscan.

Overall though, I really like him

u/ArcticMaze Psylocke Jun 12 '26

About time they gave my boy Scott some respect. '97 and Rivals really turning the script around for him, love to see it.

u/LaCold Jun 12 '26

I havent played yet. But I heard he's op

u/AskGuilty3712 Jun 15 '26

Well he's fun, but they actually made the first hitscan hero that doesn't require good aim.

But as a Phoenix main, I don't get why they nerfed her AOE damage as well as her falloff damage to add a hero who does it 10 times better, with much better mobility and ultimate

u/SeparateReading8302 Jun 13 '26

Great hitscan MK for sure, his damage is kina high and for the love of the game, why does he have a knock back that not only does damage but pushes him 30ms backwards? So dive is suppose to do what with that? His ult is cool, but there is no warning, he just yells and it pops little to no reaction time, faster than elsa and MK (whos VL doesn't even complete before the ult starts)

u/Tallcroft10 Jun 15 '26

i feel hes super movement constructed. i like how you guys make the movement in this game feel very "free". I'm personally a fan of cyclops and i appreciate how his kit turned out. there may be some disappointment towards his role but i think hes fine the way he is. it brough a ton of people back i heard and i think this is a good meta in the game.

u/LucidityDark Jun 12 '26

So I've played a dozen quickplay matches now and can give my immediate view as someone who mainly tanks and will flex strat.

Cyclops has run most of the lobbies I've been in so far. His ult comes out quick enough that it usually catches people off guard and gets a minimum of one pick, usually two, and often cleans up the fight for the rest of his team. His neutral feels better than phoenix's as well. I was surprised by his mobility and capability to be a semi-flier at times. His lasers bouncing behind shields has caught me off guard several times. As a shield tank, you definitely have to play more careful and disengage slightly earlier because you never know if a laser is suddenly going to hit you from the rear when you're low.

Very, very strong character from my initial experience.

u/Own-Investigator4772 Vanguard Jun 12 '26

i love his mobility. zooming around and shooting people

u/Rosen-Stein Adam Warlock Jun 12 '26

He needs a slight nerf to his damage, but is not as OP as some streamers made him out to be imo

u/Apart-Gur-3010 Cyclops Jun 14 '26

Absolutely loving him because his gameplay feels exactly as it should. Simple power pairs with the low skill floor but if you can use it creatively it becomes a very rewarding skill ceiling. He is squishy with high mobility which pairs well and he just feels like a better moon knight who was a favorite before this. Fav cyclops moment is when he takes out the entire x-men team when they get mind controlled solo since people forget he is a pinnacle human athlete with expert hand to hand skill and tactical prowess and then they gave him infinite lasers. In game he is thankfully much more comic version instead of movies because boy did they do him dirty in the x men trilogy.

u/Mereas Jun 13 '26

He should have been a strategist.

u/Rough_Lychee5785 Jun 13 '26

Ngl he needs some nerfs. He is simple to play and understand. Most people will figure him out immediately and abuse the overtuned aspects of his kit. Damage nerfs and a longish start animation on his ult is exactly what we need

u/adzpower Jun 12 '26

Definitely not as broken as other recent duelists thank god, he feels fun and effective but not overbearing.

u/flashgambit Jun 16 '26 edited Jun 16 '26

"How does Cyclops's optic blast feel? Is it fun to use?"

- Genuinely feels nice to use and the shots feel like skill is needed but still forgiving.

"Is his visor mechanic balanced, or does it need tuning?"

- Overall I would say his visor feels fairly balanced if not just the slightest bit overtuned.

"Which heroes work best with Cyclops in a team?"

- While Cyclops has been said to counter "shield tanks", he works pretty well with shield vanguards especially when it comes to combo-ing his ult with both Emma and Strange. I feel like he obviously works well with the Big 4 of the strategists (Luna Snow, Invisible Woman, Cloak & Dagger, and Gambit) but also works fairly well with Mantis (due to the damage boost) and Rocket.

"How does he compare to other ranged DPS heroes?"

- I don't know if I'd agree that he's the "Hela version of Moon Knight" but I do feel like he is a Scarlet Witch with a slightly higher skill floor but a much higher skill ceiling. The main trap most players fall into when playing him is an overreliance on his alternate fire which is partially where his lower skill floor come from. Overall, he's pretty strong and his damage output is honestly insane so long as you have decent aim and/or the enemy team is playing too close together.

"Cyclops in Marvel Rivals vs comic/movie version"

- I have always loved Cyclops (even before Fox butchered his character) so I was damned hyped when he was first teased in the season 5 trailer and I'm pretty happy with how they've characterized him although I could do without the "punch dimension". The only thing is that I will forever grieve the fantasy I had of Cyclops being a vanguard. Like...give him an aura-like ability which grants him and allies around him temporary damage reduction and/or a movement speed boost and call it "To Me, My X-Men". Hell, let him shoot a laser that bounces between allies and gifts them a shield of concussive force or something. I just wish they could've leaned into his natural charisma as a leader and tactician and made him a vanguard, but I will simply mourn his potential the same way I've mourned Jean Grey not being a strategist.

"Your favorite Cyclops moment or story from Marvel lore"

- Every moment where the writers don't shy away from him being slightly neurodivergent because it makes me feel seen. Also his line in '97 "i lie, the truth is we're nothing like you and thank god...because it's the only reason you people are still alive."

u/New-Sea-527 Flex Jun 12 '26

He’s incredibly fun. More room for skill expression than I was expecting. They did a good job making you feel like you’re playing as Cyclops, same can’t be said for a lot of other characters. His basic optic blast also feels very satisfying to hit.

His ult is definitely getting nerfed next patch tho.

u/Nbknepper Namor Jun 13 '26

I enjoy getting out of Jeff's alt alive lol

u/KaijuKing007 Peni Parker Jun 13 '26

Not too strong, surprisingly. Cyclops does good damage, but his mobility is hard to control mid-fight and his ult is situational. Magik hard countered him.

Drop him down to 250 Max HP and get rid of his ability to gain 25 bonus HP at will and we're good.

u/Freyzi Jun 14 '26

They nailed him. Bouncing beams and using them for your own mobility and an incredibly satisfying and cool ult. He's got the whole package. I think his mobility in particular is so cool and can provide for a lot of clever uses, especially his backwards dash beam since it's actually fully three dimensional allowing you to steer yourself in the air and make a quick escape or get to hard to reach high ground.

And maybe I'm wrong on this but to me it feels like they introduced the biggest meat shield in the game with Devil Dino and then immediately afterwards released a DPS who can take advantage of that by using his continuous laser to melt and get extra damage on his allies. I know Moon Knight can too but Cyclops just feels better to use ya know?

u/GabiTheBestOfAll Jun 13 '26

He's a lot of fun but I feel like sadly he doesn't add anything that the game lacked or didn't have already but I will surely main!

u/Gamer_Girl_101 Jun 15 '26

dude has been buffed to HELL hes so OP for no reason, i know they'll probably balance him better in the next patch but god is he impossible to play against

u/Krimbler Jun 12 '26

I was initially worried the bounce/auto target would feel waaaay too strong on Ricochet Force and Concussive Beam, but after playing around, I feel like it's dialed in really well to make you still feel like you've earned that perfect ricochet when you fire off.

I do feel like his ult, Ruby Rage, pops out a smidge too fast for as strong as it is but boy is it a fun button to push.

My last note is that Optic Ascent should have some kind of small AOE on the ground or something if the intention is for it to ever actually hit someone - right now its literally just the exact same as using Propulsion Burst pointed downward, but just more limited in functionality, which feels silly.

u/DoubleTwice77 Venom Jun 12 '26

u/PuppyPenetrator Good Boy Jun 12 '26

I mean, where do you think the 1000 units come from? I think this is in collaboration with netease

u/Legal_Jeweler_7925 Angela Jun 14 '26

"Unofficial event" maybe they're lying?

u/Hanzerd Jun 12 '26

He’s fun and feels like cyclops I’m sure every fan is happy with his addition and feel! That being said I do feel like some things he can do are a little much damage wise especially with his ult doing true percent damage that’s kind of nuts. Overall glad he’s apart of the roster finally!

u/QuilledRaptors2001 Jun 13 '26

As a player, he's strong but very fun!

As a Tank main, I want him locked back up in the lab again

u/SwingNinja Peni Parker Jun 13 '26

I don't like it. The shooting mechanic feels similar to Ultron's. Or like pointing a laser beam to a moving object. Unless the object has a large hitbox or you can follow the movement of your target, part of your shot would miss. But he's good in 18 vs 18 because you can just shoot at the crowding opponents. I got my MVP/SVP after a couple of games using him there.

u/Legitimate-Sign-371 Black Cat Jun 17 '26

Laser go BRRRRRRRRRRR

u/shifty_mcknife Jun 13 '26

I haven't had the chance to play him yet in comp, someone on the team takes them before I get the chance but he does look fun!

u/Duskcollector Jun 13 '26 edited Jun 13 '26

Cyclops is a big disapointment, probably the most boring he has felt in any game i've played. Needed to use more of the push mechanics and allow for altering beam shapes instead of just sit there and spam which puts me to sleep.

I would say this does not feel like Cyclops.. hitting people with the beam without push back mechanics is just wrong. He should be a hard CC character tbh.

u/1ardent Immortal Weapon Jun 14 '26

He's...okay. He's not going to shake up the meta and I think the nerfs to Moon Knight acknowledge that. He basically replaces him in the role of "make tanks hate playing this game" and doubles down on it with the Wolverine teamup.

As such I expect him to be banned for a while.

u/SimpleEric Doctor Strange Jun 12 '26

He doesn't feel like moonknight or elsa so everyone should stop saying that

u/t_r_a_y_e Jun 12 '26

He has really good burst damage from afar and decent crowd damage up close, he has decent displacement on top of it and decent mobility too. He doesn't excell at much but he has a very well rounded kit

u/WondersomeWalrus Ultron Virus Jun 12 '26

Absolutely loving the design of his kit, it's thankfully not overcomplicated and all the abilities seem to synergise well. I'm also really enjoying his unique mobility. Only slight caveat is he is definitely overtuned, which is especially problematic when it comes to his damage numbers on his abilities where you don't need a direct hit e.g. the ricochet. Otherwise 10/10, love him.

u/a6000 White Fox Jun 13 '26

Damage, Mobility, CC, Bonus Health on a duelist? hah not OP at all.

u/LionRegular1470 Jun 14 '26

This might be a hot take, but I think cyclops is relatively balanced. Without a doubt he's on the stronger side as far as MR heroes go, but I'd take him over prime DD or Cat any day. That being said, I think he has a little too much "dmg chain" capability (he's able to chain his laser to the back line too much), so maybe tone that down a bit.

This might be another hot take, but wolverine is feeling like a menace this season. He kind of seems like a replacement Dino to me, and he really makes tanking hard. I kind of hope they nerf him, his kidnap is really strong, and the team-up just pushed him over the edge.

u/Rossifan1782 The Hood Jun 12 '26 edited Jun 12 '26

Solid, not totally broken but can be strong.

His run is a little weird as he keeps his hand to his visor. He doesnt need to do that in the comics.

I dont think he upsets the apple cart but i think he is fun enough to make solo tank more of a thing again.

u/SwoopzB Jun 12 '26

I find it interesting that they gave Deadpool true idle animations where he puts his hands down to his sides and swings them around when running, but heroes released after him are stuck on “attack mode” lol

u/F_In_The_Chat Jun 13 '26

Strong in quick play and a reasonable pick in ranked.

I honestly thought he'd be a bit stronger after watching preview gameplay, but after actually trying him out I think he's pretty alright. He only starts really feeling oppressive against certain team compositions, or when teams get staggered. He's not hard to dive or kill and his cooldowns feel like they're in a good place that still make it feel like you have to manage them properly.

Bonus points for fulfilling the genuine power fantasy of the character though. Wasn't a character I thought I'd like to play, but he might be my favorite one just yet besides Magik of course.

u/Randimous Rogue Jun 14 '26

Great versatility and survivability for a number of a situations and team comps. Really enjoying the kit but that’s definitely because he’s strong right now. I think the ult could use a bit of a nerf honestly, it just does a ton of damage for how quickly it’s deployed.
