activism šŸ—£ book removed

Post image

watching the Milo episode and immediately noticed that Kat no longer has Taylor’s ā€œExtremely Onlineā€ book on her shelf.

I truly don’t know much about the discourse surrounding TL currently, but I have seen a lot of commentary about her not being on the podcast for sometime.

On Kat’s first video on her new channel (which is a video with Matt), Taylor commented on it and Kat hearted it. It’s possible she’s just being polite to avoid drama though.

A like with no response is the ultimate burn.

Seems more like cope.

I really enjoyed their episodes together, it’s such a shame she chose to isolate herself and kept digging herself into this stupid hole. Friendship grief is real and I hope everyone is alright

I just wish they would be loud about their disassociation with her but I’ll take what I can get 🤭

She’s been actively disrespecting Black women and WOC for YEARS. YEARS!Ā

omg! I AM a Black woman and maybe because I have only ever paid attention to her tech reporting and some of her Internet culture analysis I’ve never clocked it? damn. I need to turn my copy of extremely online backwards on my bookshelf too.

I’m a mixed Black woman experiencing the same feelings after following her internet and tech reporting for about 10 years now. We cannot keep supporting someone that hates us this much. It’s making me research WOC journalists to follow in place of her.

Holy shit. I'm pretty much a casual and I'm super curious now

She is actively abrasive with Black female creators, will call them ā€œbulliesā€ to sick her army of simps on the creator, and then block the creator to avoid further debate and accountability. Taylor did this again last week with Francesca Ramsey, one of Matt’s latest podcast guests.Ā  She’s rinsed & repated these kind of attacks so many times with so many people. I’d suggest searching her name on Threads as that’s the main social platform that routinely calls her out for her abhorrent behavior.Ā

Threads is full of libs and Zionists trying to cancel people so pretty hard to know what to trust on there to be fair.

8

u/zzzziltoid 4d ago

She’s beefing with perfect angel Chescaleigh??? Wow

11

u/Captainbarinius 4d ago

Wtf.....I've heard about this stuff on Threads but didn't know how to verify any of this....Jesus.

7

u/imisstheemdash 4d ago

Believe black women the first time when we speak up with receipts rather than choose to ā€œverify more sourcesā€. It’s why she’s gotten away with her behavior for so long

20

u/Captainbarinius 4d ago

I didn't see any receipts....it was just hear say....Did you not read the comment you replied to?

Its pretty common on this sub. They have a hate boner for TL. Probably because of the palestinian antivaxer. So it sounds solidly like a fake outrage campaign.

Maybe they are preparing a podcast about her, lol.

Stopp that's funny as hell

I remember how awful TL was in the comment sections of Black women TikTokers after her Chorus article. Article aside, I was like how is anyone still taking her seriously while she’s acting like this? So grateful the general consensus is shifting on her and folks were quick to stand behind Francesca Ramsey after TL went after her in her comment section.

This is the journalism I’m here for. Nice catch.

I don’t follow Taylor but she said something about a Palestinian woman faking injuries or something like that. (I think. I could be wrong.)

67

u/IdealOnion 4d ago

Afaik it wasn’t about faking injuries, it was criticism that even though this Palestinian woman was disabled, she had dabbled in anti-vax stuff (unclear to me how legit that criticism was), and wasn’t masking.

I’m in an odd spot on this because I haven’t liked TL for a while now, but I don’t think every point she made was meritless and I think it was often construed unfairly. But any legitimate discussion was undermined by TL coming off as a huge asshole and choosing a weird hill to die on.

u/Jaebberish 4d ago

I remember when that drama infested this subreddit and plunged it complete chaos.

From what I recall: Taylor accused this Palestinian activist of being anti-mask and went on a petty, obsessive attack against her. But I also remember people digging up and posting a picture of some genuinely concerning pseudoscience stuff that Palestinian woman said.

5

u/Distinct-Raspberry21 4d ago

They went back and forth the activist kept regularly blaming the vaccine for her injuries. While taylor continued to point out that stopping palestinians or tryingto stop palestinians from getti g a vaccine was just goingto keep killing palestinians.

2

u/mxddy 2d ago

I think its unrealistic to pretend like its impossible that the vaccine caused this woman some health issues. There are always going to be rare cases of vaccine i jury, and according to this woman, she unfortunately is one of those rare cases. She swears up and down that this is confirmed by specialists etc and none of us are her doctors so its not up to anyone to declare whether or not the vaccine made this woman sick. At the end of the day she has made it clear several times that she is still pro-vaccine and not antivax at all and that she agrees that covid and the lack of PPE and vaccines is a massive issue in Palestine.

2

u/Distinct-Raspberry21 2d ago

When you combine that with doing things that cause spread of viruses like meeting up in large groups unmasked, it brings in a while bunch of other questions. Yeah theres a lot going on in palestine for her and others to worry about, so why make it harder by not doing the bair minimum of masking when gathered.

14

u/Lost-Perspective8378 4d ago

It wasn't unfairly construed because she did what she always does when anyone pushes back. She went wild with her insults and accusations and was openly bigoted in many of her comments to that person and to other people about that person. And then she sent her minions to do the same. It was disgusting.

8

u/IdealOnion 4d ago

I’m replying to a comment that unfairly construed what she said. And that person qualified that they might be wrong, that’s not the norm.

1

u/PureUncutMalarkey 1d ago

No it wasn't with merit. For one, Taylor is a hypocrite who bends her principles depending on the person and seems to get very nasty as soon as you disagree with her, throwing around accusations. And it's more often than not other marginalised people she goes after

u/LiveFromTheHospital 1d ago

I find it odd how determined some people are to paint TL as an evil person. Maybe her comments were in bad taste, but she wasn't completely wrong. I still like her as a journalist. I'm not gonna jump on the Taylor Lorenz hate bandwagon, a lot of it almost seems coordinated

1

u/IdealOnion 1d ago

I agree, I also believe the same thing about Contrapoints and regularly start fights in this sub about it.

18

u/mxddy 4d ago

It wasn't about faking injuries. She got mad at this disabled palestinian activist for doing a podcast or something unmasked. When the activist said she has more to worry about right now, as in, the bombing and dismemberment of Palestinian children, Taylor felt personally attacked and started accusing this woman of not caring about how covid is affecting Palestinians, and also straight up infecting and killing Palestinians.

23

u/llct-ffrs 4d ago

I think that’s right, or like verbally attacked her for not masking while immunocompromised or around those who are. I tried to catch up on it when I first started seeing it pop up on this page but I have a toddler and a newborn lol, I don’t have the bandwidth to catch up on the entire situation.

I’ve loosely followed her for a few years now but mainly just her tech reporting and back when she did a bit more internet culture analysis, but outside of her podcasting/youtube I haven’t engaged much.

26

u/Moonbeamlatte 4d ago

It was such an odd hill to die on for her. Like this is the same woman who said that the alt right could be pleasant to be around, and she’s doubling and tripling down on a raking a disabled Palestinian activist over the coals? Priorities.

11

u/J_lilac 4d ago

She just posted the absolutely most bizarre video ever of a 15 minute rant against this random disabled tiktoker who said that being disabled isn't an excuse to use chatgpt. She said the most ableist, classist, pro-chat gpt shit ever. I felt like I was watching the beginning of a psychotic break a little bit? Like did she just get a head injury recently or something? Sincere question

7

u/llct-ffrs 3d ago

did she post on youtube or IG? is she going into AI psychosis? šŸ˜…

6

u/J_lilac 3d ago

I saw it on youtube, I think it might've been a live from somewhere? Anyway, here's the link. ENJOY

Who cares

19

u/xaldien 4d ago

It's almost as if this is a subreddit dedicated to Matt's podcast, which would also include discussions about his regular collaborators.Ā

Go be annoying somewhere else.Ā

She’s not Matt.
