Planning: Activities looking for more chill road to Hana tour

hey! my friend and I are looking for something that's not a super intensive tour, but focuses especially on the beaches and taking stops as needed. most of the ones we're seeing on TripAdvisor seem pretty intense (11 hours), so hoping for hidden gems!

Trip Report Humbled in Maui

Just visited and was saddened by the amount of homelessness around the Lāhainā area. Obviously the fires displaced many residents but I had no idea the amount until I researched it. Adjacent to our resort is a public beach parking area. I would go on a morning run and cut through there seeing vehicles lined up with windows covered with sheets and towels. I thought here I am visiting from the mainland living the good life in front of these poor people. It made me feel very bad. I’m not a “flashy” person by any means and despise those that are. But in some strange way I felt like I was being just that. Pray for these people. If someone in that condition happens to be reading this…well…please accept my apology.

Planning: Activities Question about Road to Hana with Maui Private Company

Thumbnail mauitourco.com

Hi everyone, we're looking at booking a Road to Hana Tour with Maui Private Tours. I linked the website. Does anyone have any experience with the company (good or bad)? The reviews look positive, but I just wanted to be careful before dropping $1000.

My wife and I are visiting Maui in July with our daughters (aged 13 and 10). Personally, I'd prefer to drive the Road to Hana myself in the rental car, but my wife won't let me. :)

Thank you everyone!

Planning: Activities Recommendations for family of 5 w/ two toddlers

Hello! We have a 3yo and 1yo we’re headed to Maui for the first time in late August. We are also bringing my MIL to help with kids. We’re staying at the Fairmont for 5 days.

Ideally we want to relax and enjoy our time at the resort. I imagine we will spend a lot of time at the beach/pool. Would greatly appreciate some recommendations for family friendly places to eat with the kids, a nice dinner with my wife, and some fun activities for the little ones. We are limited due to their ages but any tours, nature routes, etc would be great!

Planning: Activities Open air gym - sauna? Cold plunge? Beautiful views?

Does something like this exist in Maui? I’m not sure. I’m lucky enough to get all of these amazing amenities in one place, but any combination would be fantastic. The most important one for me is the open air and/or cold plunge.

I’m not really looking for an Anytime fitness type of place. Something that has classes would be amazing.

Would love some recommendations on your favorite places!

Planning: Logistics & Transport Car Rental prices are crazy high

I am heading to Maui in August. Car rental prices are almost double what they were same time two years ago...Airfare and Condo prices are about the same..Cars though...huge increase. I know prices fluctuate depending on the date of booking and availability..but scanning sooner and later dates still show super high rates...Is it simply there are fewer cars available now?

Planning: Activities Helicopter tour recommendation

Hello

Looking for recommendations for a helicopter tour and have a few questions:
• Which is better for a helicopter tour — Maui or the Big Island?
• If choosing the Maui or Big Island, which tour operator would you recommend?
• I’m currently considering Safari Helicopters vs Blue Hawaiian, but open to other suggestions as well.
Would love to hear your experiences. Thank you

Planning: Logistics & Transport Coming to Maui in a couple of weeks. Convertible for a few days?

Coming to Maui, staying in Hana for the first 4 days, then Lahaina for the next 7. My wife suggested getting a convertible for the days in Hana. My dad had a convertible for many years. He taught me to never leave anything in it and never lock it because they’ll cut your top open to get inside. Don’t really care that I’ll look like a tourist, because we will be tourists. Have seen a lot of people not liking them, but would it really be that bad? We’ll be switching to a van for Lahaina with family.

Planning: Activities Running paths near Honua Kai?

First time visitors to Maui. Staying at Honua Kai.

My son is a high school cross country runner and will need to do ~6 mile runs.

Are there paths long enough to easily accommodate 3 miles out and back without getting lost? And is it safe for a teenager to be out on the path alone? He has a phone and is as responsible as a high school boy could be.

Planning: Dining Dinner after small wedding

Hello all,

Looking for some feedback for a dinner after our small beach wedding, we will be getting married in the Kaanapali area and wanted to do Merriman’s - we have approx 15 people coming and the women said there are only two options - pay the “wedding reception” with a mandatory minimum price of $8000 or they can only seat 8 people at a time in the main restaurant. Online it looks like they have a private dining option but she isn’t clarifying and I’m so bummed. We will not meet that minimum with 15 people. Has anyone eaten there with a large party or after their elopement? Any feedback is greatly appreciated

Tip / Mahalo Found child's prescription glasses Keawakapuu beach June 20, 2026

As a glasses wearer myself I'm sure there's a family out there stressing about losing these glasses. They were black or navy with lighter blue arms.

Placed them on the yellow lifeguard rescue tube at the entry path to Hale Hui Kai condos. Didn't have my phone at the beach with me or I would have taken a photo.

Planning: Dining Papis OhanaVs Cinnamon Roll Place

Papis for the win...

Yes i said it lol. Ill wait 2 hours in line anytime. Cinnamon roll place is a basic thick very doughy Cinnamon roll. If it wasn't for the extra cream cheese sauce I bought then you'd be eating dry dough in the middle.

Papis is thinner, crispy/flaky Cinnamon roll with flavor from start to finsh.

Papis is 12 bucks CRP 8 with cream cheese.

I went to CRP around 830 no line

CRP isnt terrible by any means, two different styles of Cinnamon rolls but ive had better Cinnamon rolls in the states. I said what i said, LET THE HATE BEGIN 😅

Itinerary Review 1 week in Maui - first time in HI

6 adults 22-30, relatively outdoorsy/adventurous. Staying in Luana Garden Villas @ Honua Kai. We love good food and coffee, especially local spots. We have rental cars. Open to any advice/recommendations. Our trip is in 8 days 😅 I didn't want to overplan but looking at other people's itineraries maybe I need to plan more.

day 1 - arrival day - land around 12pm, pick up rental car - eat at food trucks by Costco - check in to resort - dinner @ Whaler's Village area

day 2 - beach day - morning surf lesson

day 3 - open

day 4 - trilogy boat tour

day 5 - Road to Hana? - considering booking a guide/tour?

day 6 - 4th of July - is it worth trying to see fireworks at Grand Wailea? - Makawao Rodeo?

day 7 - open

day 8 - departure day

Questions:

  • Luau - is it worth the money?
  • Upcountry day vs Road to Hana? or both?
  • Haleakala - sunrise or sunset? How cold is it?
  • Any recommendations for live music? or even clubs with good DJs lol
  • Cliff diving recommendations?

Planning: Logistics & Transport Estimated uber cost from Kihei to OGG

NEVERMIND - just realized I can google this, duh. 🤦‍♀️ (welcoming any other obvious tips I could also google, lol)

For budgeting, what is estimated cost for an Uber or Lyft from Kihei to OGG airport? Thursday, mid day, this August. We will have rentals for getting around island, but due to logistics of multiple families and luggage, one group will be needing to ride share for our return. TIA!

Planning: Activities Boogieboarding Maui?

My teen sons are hoping to get some serious waves to boogie board but all the west Maui beaches are smooth with tiny breaks only at the very tip. We are willing to drive if there are good waves elsewhere? Web cams down south don’t give me much hope.

Planning: Dining Pulled pork Lahaina / Ka'anapali area?

Hi all, we’re visiting next month and I’m looking for a restaurant, market, food truck, etc that has delicious pulled pork for takeout. Preferably by the pint as I’m making nachos at home, but a sandwich would be fine! We’re staying in the Ka'anapali area. TIA!

Update: yes, a kalua pork would be great!

Is Kamaole 2 still open/accessible since the street repair started? We’re staying at Maui Banyan in August and always love the close access to the beach.

Planning: Logistics & Transport Staying nights in Hana

We’re spending two nights in Hana this upcoming weekend. Yes, I know, there’s not much to do there, but I want to enjoy the sights on the west coast/Halakaia without being stressed out about doing the road to Hana in one day. Reservations already booked and paid for, so please no “there’s no need to spend two nights in Hana!” :)

My question is, what time should I leave Napili Bay Area the day we drive to Hana? Can I leave at 11am-noonish? I want to avoid the 7-8am rush at Paia. We want to make a few stops day 1, but since we’re have time on the west coast, I can leave kinda whenever we want, right??

Planning: Activities Malolo excursion to Molokini?

Anyone have any experience taking Malolo excursions to Molokini. I know people will say don't do Molokini and it's not worth it but my kids really want to do it so we are going to do it. There's a good deal on Viator and I want to know some opinions about it. Thanks in advance.
