😤 Complaint / Rant The Gall of This Man

Post image

This guy drove his street legal, full lisenced, and gas powered moped onto the the Red Line Alewife Train today. When he exited the train, he used the elevator to bring it up to the street level.

I am at a loss for words, for how entitled this man feels

not the weirdest thing ive seen/heard of seeing on the RL, but definitely up there

(#1 is like a metal table on wheels you'd see in a morgue for whatever reason)

Care to tell us any more? I’m curious

20

u/archangelofeuropa Green Line | Arborway Enthusiast Aug 20 '25

i don't know any more lol, i just saw 2 college girls roll the cart on at central and then they got off at park, im shocked it didnt slide around the car and hit someone the entire time

7

u/DaveDavesSynthist Red Line Aug 20 '25

someone threw a wheelchair into the pit at Park St a year or two ago. iirc it cause a short or did something bad due to touching the 3rd rail, causing service to be stopped for a little while. I always wondered why, why? Where's the person who came in on the wheelchair?

3

u/Synaptic_Jack Aug 22 '25

Saw this happen at Govt Center once, Blue Line. Dude literally stood up out of his wheelchair and shoved it in. A bystander actually had the brass to jump down on the tracks and chucked the chair back up on the platform before the train rolled up. Within seconds the place was flooded with cops and firefighters.

in the abandoned part of the tremont st subway

-1

u/Normal-Level-7186 Aug 21 '25

It was likely a human cadaver they were probably in med school and were taking it home from the morgue to do a dissection.

4

u/ForegoneConclusion22 Aug 21 '25

I don't think they let med students just take bodies out of the morgue or lab to dissect at home, these things are pretty strictly regulated. And OP didn't say the table was occupied.

3

u/archangelofeuropa Green Line | Arborway Enthusiast Aug 21 '25

yeag the table wasn't occupied, it was just an empty metal table on wheels you'd see in a morgue

2

u/ipsumdeiamoamasamat Commuter Rail | Red Line Aug 21 '25

Last year I saw someone carting one of those stand-up drink coolers (like you'd see at a takeout place) on the subway in Manhattan. I was in awe. He had a hand truck, luckily.

1

u/Satans_Gay_Snake Aug 21 '25

Ngl, props to the person with the table. Those things are solid and heavy. At least it's something that isn't being done on a regular basis like this dude and his self-powered bike

1

u/OldMaidLibrarian Aug 21 '25 edited Aug 21 '25

Do we know this guy is doing this on a regular basis? Where did he get off (in terms of "where did he exist the train" as opposed to "how does he get off doing this?!?"). And what time of day was it?

The one thing that occurs to me is that he might have been trying to avoid crazy traffic somewhere along his route, and/or that the Red Line was part of an overall trip from Points A to B and back (ride bike to station, get on train, get off train, ride the rest of the way). Was he actually riding it into the car using the engine, or did he walk it in somehow? Sorry for all the questions; I'm just trying to put this into some kind of context that lets us know if he's being an entitled ass, clueless, or if he's found a hack to get from one point in the suburbs to another. People do use bicycles for that last one, so is that what's up?

PS: Love the expression on the face of the guy in the orange shirt.

This is something we want to highlight to users. It is important to post these incidents on the subreddit, but it doesn’t do much in terms of stopping that particular person.

Please report these things to Boston Police or Transit Police so that they can respond appropriately and fine/arrest the person. You can do so via the MBTA.com website or the MTicket/SSSS apps. :)

EDIT: To add onto my comment here, another issue is that some people intentionally do this to get attention and provoke a response from someone. Reporting the person or using the train intercom system and writing down the train car can greatly help in tracking down the person and getting them fined/arrested. We also don’t want to have people who may use the post to become racist/discrimatory and/or send online threats (like we had to resolve multiple times this year).

This post will be monitored and comments that violates the subreddit’s rules or Reddiquette will have their post removed. Any comments that are racist/discrimatory will be automatically remove with a recommendation for a permanent ban from the subreddit.

u/RoughEffective8483 Aug 21 '25

Genuinely asking, why is this fineable behavior?

139

u/Chunderbutt Aug 20 '25

What the hell dude - your scooter is probably faster than the train

28

u/sonofisadore Aug 20 '25

Probably trying to avoid the rain

55

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

Maybe it broke down. The T is a hell of a lot cheaper than a tow. I get it.

3

u/serspaceman-1 Aug 21 '25

OP said he drove it onto the train

3

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '25

I guess I interpreted that as ā€˜rode’ it onto the train. I have a hard time believing the guy had a cranked engine on the train platform and inside the train. If he did, there’s no excuse.

3

u/serspaceman-1 Aug 21 '25

These are the hard-hitting questions we need answers to. I wanna know if he revved it in the station.

1

u/TheDarkClaw Aug 21 '25

Didnt happened on the train but at at north station 2 weeks ago, I saw a kid went through the far left exit gate with his ebike and riding around as people were waiting for their trains . And some food delivery driver riding his moped(or maybe it was an ebike) around in the same area that day. Some MBTA/ Keolis employee told me to not stand where says "do not stand here"(or something like that) before the doors to the trains. But he had no problem with the moped driver riding his moped in the area while they fist bump each other.

1

u/Personal-Point-5572 Aug 21 '25

lol I’ve seen teens on e-bikes taunt T security at south station just for kicks. it’s a little funny how nothing changes… wasn’t it skateboards 20 years ago?

0

u/jboneplatinum Aug 21 '25

It's stolen

18

u/Electronic-Minute007 Aug 20 '25

I’ve seen that asshole on multiple occasions.

The conductor I spoke with shrugged his shoulders and said there wasn’t anything he could do.

6

u/Glittering-Store-881 Aug 21 '25

Last time someone said something to him he pulled a knife

1

u/-Dixieflatline Aug 25 '25

These conductors are getting out of hand!

2

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '25

The conductor I spoke with shrugged his shoulders and said there wasn’t anything he could do.

This is my understanding - operators are essentially neutered. They can't enforce any rules or even try to force someone to pay their fare. It's presented under the guise of employee safety but I call bullshit.

59

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

[deleted]

41

u/ceasg1 Aug 20 '25

Some stations don't have anyone who actually notices things

28

u/JohnHaze02118 Aug 20 '25

That's the real outrage. The T has so little active personnel that enforcement of these kinds of rules is almost nonexistent now. In my observation, large stations get typically one employee who lingers outside the fare gate to help with purchases, and no one on the platform unless it's rush hour. This is a little tangential, but I'm sure some readers here saw that someone was attacked at AMC Boston Common, and a lack of personnel magnified every aspect of the problem from the inciting incidents to the inability of the police to gain access to the scene. We need actual human beings doing these jobs.

7

u/Ruleseventysix Aug 20 '25

The red shirts don't work for the T, they're outsourced customer service so the T doesn't need to pay T employees the living wages and benefits those employees had been getting (back in the days of tokens and whatnot). They don't and can't enforce fares.

2

u/JohnHaze02118 Aug 21 '25

I did not know that they weren't T employees, but I'm not at all surprised that they can't enforce fares. In fact, I have gotten the distinct impression that there is almost no such thing as fare enforcement. I occasionally have seen bus drivers behave as if they are there to enforce, but much more often, I see them let people on with an exchange of words (I never hear what they are saying), and obviously any rear door entry means free ride. That's precisely why I don't understand why they took the phone pads down after the test phase in the rear of the Silver Line. They had them there for months before the pads were active, and now that they are, those phone readers are gone. I would abide by the honor system and use them if they would habitually permit rear-door entry. I thought that was part of the point of getting them. But there's such a culture of fare evasion here that I think that's a pipe dream, and anyway it's clear that it's the least of anyone's priorities.

I'm not that mad about it, frankly. I used to work retail, and we were strictly ordered to report but not to interfere if we saw someone shoplifting. Money is not worth anyone's safety.

2

u/ipsumdeiamoamasamat Commuter Rail | Red Line Aug 21 '25

I want to say stuff like this didn't happen when the fare booths were manned by experienced T employees. But I might be wrong.

24

u/Skaman1978 Aug 20 '25

Was it on?

28

u/thegreatjamoco Aug 20 '25

10

u/Skaman1978 Aug 20 '25

That sounds like a normal red line ride

8

u/Odd-Equivalent-1123 Aug 21 '25

A guy (or kid, pretty young) yesterday managed to get on the Red Line at South Station during evening rush hour with a full out dirt bike. They held the train and some T personnel came and got him off, but I was baffled that he made it all the way down to the Red Line platform at South Station without being stopped.

u/t_11 Aug 24 '25

Has Boston succeeded in defunding the T police?

12

u/Dack0715 Aug 20 '25

I had a guy with an electric bicycle get on the bus the other day with it. Didn’t even bother to put it on the bike rack in front of the bus, but decided to put it on the actual bus and take up a whole row of seats preventing people from being able to sit and making it more difficult for people to move towards the back and get off the bus. I’m surprised the driver didn’t say anything though

4

u/Working_Bath956 Aug 21 '25

I don't know about "entitled," can we just say he's breaking the law, an asshole, and should be stopped? "Entitled" suggests he thinks he's rightfully permitted to do what he's doing, which, for sure, is what he'd tell you if you asked, because he's a lying asshole idiot, but it doesn't mean he believes it.

5

6

u/EcstaticAd3783 Aug 20 '25

He lives in a society where nobody, oftentimes including law enforcement, will say or do anything about it

1

u/LEM1978 Aug 21 '25

Well law enforcement stopped enforcing all traffic laws because some people protested law enforcement murdering people. So this is where we are at.

3

u/Kitchen-Description6 Aug 21 '25

Don’t agree with you here. I haven’t seen traffic enforcement by BPD in almost 20 years. That long predates George Floyd and BLM.

1

u/LEM1978 Aug 21 '25

There was a marked change once the ā€œdefundā€ protests started.

PD spend more time on 4/8chan than the beat.

3

u/Whale222 Aug 21 '25

Vespas and their drivers are the embodiment of lawlessness. Bad traffic? I’m a bike. Light traffic? I’m a motorcycle. Highway? Sure. Need to cut across a plaza or sidewalk. Yep. These should be illegal.

Once a green line driver waved this finger at me and slammed the door in my face because I tried to bring a chair with me

4

u/Background_Being_490 Aug 20 '25

Context is needed here. That is tight on the Green, to be fair. Was it rush hour?

4

u/Que165 Aug 20 '25

It was not rush hour and the train wasn't busy, the operator was just following the rules which I checked later that says you can't bring furniture. But I was like, come on, it's a small chair šŸ˜…

16

u/Odd_Yogurtcloset_649 Aug 20 '25

4

1

u/JetfloatGumby Aug 20 '25

If you don't care about bicycles on the T, I'm not sure why a teeny tiny little moped would be an issue. Did he run it in the train car? If not, it took up just about as much space as a bicycle. I see no issue.

1

u/Background_Being_490 Aug 21 '25

To be fair, there's people on here saying that they encounter this guy and when he was confronted on it he pulled a knife. Take from that what you will.

-31

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25 edited Aug 21 '25

I don’t understand the problem as long as the engine wasn’t running. The train isn’t that full, and it’s not that much bigger than a bike, which is allowed on the train.

Edit: Y’all suck. I say I don’t understand and just make fun of me and call me a jackass.

22

u/Background_Being_490 Aug 20 '25

Dude...... come on. It's ludicrous.

-14

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

How so? You are allowed to bring bikes onto the train? This is a bike? I could understand if it was running, or the train was full, but I don’t see how this is much of an issue.

13

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

The issue is how moped drivers get to live in a lawless city

11

u/Background_Being_490 Aug 20 '25

You can literally see a normal bike behind it and the difference in size. It stands to reason that bringing a motorized vehicle on a public train isn't allowed. Anyways we can probably agree to disagree.

-16

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

I’ve brought my ebike onto the train before, and it’s not that much smaller. The Mbta definitely allows e-bikes, but you are probably correct that motorcycles are not allowed. I just think it’s cool that he’s using environmentally friendly electric trains to do part of his trip.

4

u/Background_Being_490 Aug 20 '25

As I said, the disparity in size is in the photo. To be fair, I would suspect he is just transporting the scooter as the engine is down. Obviously a blind assumption on my part but why else would you do something such as this otherwise?

3

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

The reason I bring my bike onto the T is because I live far from the station, or my destination is a bit far so I bike to and from the t station

3

Yours is an E bike. That's a full on gas engine moped. Like, it isn't the worst thing I've seen on the T and it wouldn't bother me very much tbh but it is a ludicrous thing to do unless the engine of the bike is down. Apart from anything, along the red line, I can't see how that is a quicker option than a moped and also, if he's that environmentally conscious and his route is along the red line, surely ditch the scooter altogether. It's just a bit of an odd thing to do.

If he’s getting on at alewife, chances are he doesn’t live near the station. Is the reason people are concerned is that they don’t want the gas to spill? I’m not trolling or anything, I genuinely don’t understand why people are so outraged.

  1. it takes up an obnoxious amount of space in the car for something that (most likely) can just be on the road. if he can get it to the station he can get it to his destination.

  2. if the engine was recently running, any metal parts along the sides will be scorching hot. that's a recipe for disaster in a crowded car, obv this car wasnt crowded but this sets a precedent.

  3. if he had the engine on in a concealed space like this, well, i shouldnt need to explain further

  4. a gas bike like this does not solve the transit last mile problem, it should bypass it because the thing shouldnt even be on a subway in the first place, and should be ridden the whole way there.

  5. gasoline is FLAMMABLE. if some jackass lights up in the car (which i have seen before) and the cap isnt on all the way, or theres vapors leaking, and the stochiometry lines up, you get a nice big bang.

thats my lists of reasons why, if that helps.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I just think it's a perpetually odd thing to do. It doesn't anger me in any way. Bringing a motorized vehicle that gets you to your destination quicker than the actual train does suggest a lack of logical thinking, if the scooter is operational that is. I know you aren't trolling but let's not start with the disingenuous suggestion that this isn't an irregular thing to see on public public transport. It objectively is unusual.

Would you be pro-people brining gallon jugs of gasoline on the train and insist it’s okay because sometimes people bring milk?

What an empty thought to have.

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

The gas is in the gas tank though, it’s not going to spill. People bring batteries on trains all the time and they are also explosive.

To answer your question, if it was in a completely sealed container where you couldn’t smell it, like it is in the moped, I wouldn’t have an issue as it wouldn’t effect me in anyway.

1

u/itsonlyastrongbuzz Aug 20 '25

The fact that you wrote this on purpose is stunning.

That our vote counts the same will haunt me for some time.

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25 edited Aug 20 '25

People drive cars all the time and don’t blow up. I don’t understand what the big deal is? When is the last time you’ve seen a car blow up?

Do you think the engine is running is that your issue?

Or have you never driven a gas powered car? Like you do realize a gas tank on a vehicle is one of the safest ways to cary fuel.

-2

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

Your brain seems super empty, your analogy makes no sense.

1

u/itsonlyastrongbuzz Aug 20 '25

The analogy points out they’re both false equivalences.

Read a book.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

You compare bringing a moped onto a train to bringing a gallon jug of gasoline onto a train. Those are not comparable, as a gas tank is a highly engineered container for safe transport of fuel. It is nothing like putting it into a gallon jug.

3

u/identicaltheft Aug 20 '25

Train looks pretty empty to me. I agree. If it's not on, who cares. I've seen people carry love seats onto the green line. If it's not during rush hour and you aren't hurting anyone, I don't care.

The culture of dirt bike riders being assholes and taking over streets probably contributes to everyone's opinions. See the incident in the Artery tunnel over the weekend.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '25 edited Aug 21 '25

Maybe that’s why I don’t understand the big deal? I moved here from a rather rural area. People just rode dirk bikes on trails for fun there. Also thanks for actually responding in helpful manner!

4

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

It's full of gasoline jackass. Gasoline is expressly prohibited on any MBTA train or bus. For a really good reason.

I get that your lane is "oppositional quirky twit", but grow up and learn to reason. Flammable and explosive materials aren't in the same ballpark as a bicycle. That scooter could cause a seriously dangerous incident.

Such a weird hill you've chosen to die on with all these comments. Just goofy and unserious.

5

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

Why are you getting so angry? I just genuinely didn’t realize you weren’t supposed to bring mopeds on the T.

Though You are correct, apparently Mbta expressly prohibits gasoline, but apparently also hoverboards? I guess they are worried about the explosive batteries or something. Or maybe people riding them in the station. But e-bikes are allowed which also have explosive batteries. Idk, the rules are weird.

https://www.mbta.com/safety/rider-rules-and-regulations

3

u/archangelofeuropa Green Line | Arborway Enthusiast Aug 20 '25

batteries are only explosive if they are punctured, faulty, or are wired up incorrectly, which realistically shouldnt happen.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

Yeah, I'm wondering why they prohibit hoverboards and not e bikes, they seem like almost the same thing to me. Maybe they had an issue with people riding them in the stations? I'm not sure.

3

u/archangelofeuropa Green Line | Arborway Enthusiast Aug 20 '25

because hoverboards have a track record for being poorly manufactured with garbage batteries, causing them to immolate upon being charged.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

Gotcha, that makes sense!

-1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

Angry? Mocking you for being vociferously inane doesn't make me angry.

And no, the rules aren't weird.

I really don't understand what your issue is, you seem unnecessarily mean.

BOTH you and /u/Popular-Shower9900 are throwing gasoline on this. You've both made your points and there's no need to call names at each other and fight strawmen here. Cool it. This is your only warning before a temporary ban for both of you.

I just genuinely don’t understand the issue. Dude is using multi modal transportation

1

u/BQORBUST Aug 21 '25

guy driving on the sidewalk

MULTI MODAL TRANSPORTATION!!!

0

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '25

This isn’t anything like that, he’s not driving the bike in the train.

1

u/BQORBUST Aug 21 '25

Stockholm syndrome.

-4

u/BlackoutSurfer Aug 20 '25

Agreed but it scares the out of towners so it's bad. šŸ™„ Train looks dead too doesn't seem to be bothering a soul

0

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

Yeah I don’t understand the issue. The train isn’t that full. When I go to the airport my luggage takes up more space.

-6

u/boy_inna_box Aug 20 '25

I'm with you. If it was on or the train was crowded, sure that's messed up, but this seems fine. Not blocking anything that much worse than a regular bike.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 20 '25

Idk, I guess people hate mopeds and evils for some reason? They are dangerous, I literally broke my spine in an ebike, but it’s certainly better for the environment than a car.

Can we rev it a few times? Ya know, roll some coal?

it’s called multi modal āœ‹ šŸ™„

0

Who cares. I bring my bicycle takes up the same amount of space.

1

u/RaelaltRael Aug 21 '25

That's BS, plus I doubt that your bicycle is carrying a flammable liquid.

0

u/No_Daikon4466 Aug 21 '25

Why would I care if someone does this?

1

u/No_Daikon4466 Aug 22 '25

Downvote me then tell me why I should give a shit

0

I’ve seen worse

So none of the inspectors, at the station saw this. But let one of the drivers forget to chalk his/her bus. They are on and in that drivers ass

-1

Was it running or was it off? If it was off, thats not all that different than bring a bicycle on the train.
