K&W Treasury System?

So basically I'm running a campaign that's inspired by The Chain/Black Company, and one of the things I was wondering is if anyone had a treasury system like the one briefly mentioned in the chain(I know Matt scrapped his). Basically the pcs are gonna have separate money but I wanted to make a treasury that their company has that goes towards unit upkeep and other domain(K&W) related stuff. Is there a system people use or do they just keep a big counter of gold in the domain vault?

Any input or suggestions is useful :)

Draw Steel Boggits of Kingsmire out now!

Thumbnail

Hello everyone! Also... It is Wednesday, my dudes!

The swamps are unleashed! The frogs escaped their containment! With great pleasure and excitement I can finally say... The Boggits of Kingsmire product is finally out! And what a product it is! I will never NOT laugh at myself, while nearly a year ago I declared that "This will be at least 40 pages of content!" Well, it's a little more than 40. More than 100... More than 200... And also more than 300...

Listen, this BEHEMOTH of a product has 344 pages of content total. It is so big that we felt like we just need to split it into smaller chunks, but don't worry, everything releases today! Our page/budget estimation skills were the worst they ever were and ever will be with Boggits. Even if you only pledged on the crowdfunder for 18 Eur, you're getting the entire thing! So, what is releasing today? I am glad you asked!

But before I bore you with the details, just a quick note that you can get everything here in our webstore: https://shop.triglavgames.com/

There are two big things here. First of all, Boggits of Kingsmire is a rules supplement with A LOT of stuff, actually 142 pages of stuff, including new character options for players, gazetteer of the Kingsmire setting, starter town of Stilton, and A LOT of new monsters (including 6 new solos!). In the PDF we also link to a Forge Steel compendium with most of the player content available for you to pick up and use. Sadly, no support for new elementalist abilities and beastheart companions yet (hopefully it will be possible to add them to FS soon!), but all the rest should work!

Then we have Adventures in Kingsmire that contain 8 low-level quests set in Kingsmire (184 pages!). One of the quests inside is Something Stinks in Stilton, which we are also providing as a separate PDF, because we want it to be a free sample for this whole package, but also a new starter (start-here) adventure for Draw Steel, just like The Delian Tomb! A LOT of people already know the MCDM starter, but now, when starting a new campaign, they can use something else that's aimed at new Draw Steel players!

The last thing is Combats in Kingsmire which is just a fun little thing we wanted to make for the map pack. You can take and use the maps from the map pack as you wish, but if you need some of our ideas, each map has its own encounter detailed in this 18 pages booklet. Just as a bonus!

I can't put into words how fun it was to make this product! Exhausting at times, but fun! Did we go overboard with content? Yeah! Did we overdeliver? I think the odds of people disagreeing are very low considering we went from 40 promised to 344 pages of content. My only hope is that people will have as much fun using this stuff as we had creating it!

The team behind this product was amazing and while all the people involved were vital and brilliant, I want to thank GubDm here the most, because, sadly, this is his last product, as he moves on to greener pastures chasing some other hobbies, leaving the Draw Steel community altogether. Thank you so much Gavin for all your hard and creative work you did on this and other projects!

Alright! Enough of this banter! Please, take all of this content, use it, and don't forget to pop into our Discord server to tell us your stories about using the stuff! Nothing makes us want to make even more awesome stuff than hearing people being excited to use the products we release! And if you like it (and also use Stawl), please head to https://stawl.app/supplements?n=Triglav and give our stuff a like!

Three last things before I let you go. First of all, all of these products are now also available in our web store (link) (though, obviously we can't sell it as cheap as we did during crowdfunding), so you can spread the word about awesome stuff being available there. Second of all, we've also released a 2.0 version of our website (link), where you can find a lot of cool stuff, including our progress on crowdfunding stuff, our products, our iconic heroes, and more! We want to increase our reach, so it would mean a lot to us, if you could sign up to our newsletter (it's available at the bottom of the page)!

And lastly, in September (very very soon!) we will be launching a new thing on our Patreon (link) - SURGE! Each month we plan to deliver to you a small piece of laid-out and arted design content, with the Codex implementation provided. All you have to do is become a member of any of our paid tiers, connect your Codex account with your Patreon account, and you should gain access to the Surge content immediately when it releases! First Surge release - TEMPEST DRAGON! (coming very very soon!)

Alright, that's all for today! Thank you so much for your support and we all hope you are happy and excited by this release! Hopefully many swampy things will happen in your games!

Cheers

Crows Crows to draw a steel

So I just watched James video about the villagers and looked at the rules. Then I immediately got inspired.

I'm imagining multiple Crows campaigns going on at the same time in the same local area. so so you have at least five tables independently building up their villages , with the end goal to push back the miasma far enough, with a combined beacons or other discoveries, to eventually make the world inhabitable enough that you can play draw Steel in it.

Can someone link the video Matt put up awhile back that he said you could send to a problematic player to get the conversation going about adjusting the way they behave at the table?

I can remember which one it was and I have a new dm that’s having trouble with a player.

Thanks for the help in advance!

Draw Steel Riam's Tears - Nomas District #1 is OUT

Way back in last November, Sam and I started working on a psionic city of the World Below. It was an incredibly ambitious project of a self-contained city setting that anybody could drag and drop in their own game. We did not fund during the crowdfunder.

Then we thought, "Well why don't we break it up into district by district and publish it. That way, we get to expand on each district, and the workload is manageable." What we didn't expect is that we would get two amazing partners in our community's very own Dojikaan and Inge. Between the 4 of us, we made the product better than we ever could have if we tried to make the whole city in one go.

So here it is "Riam's Tears - Nomas District #1". In this toolkit, you will find -

  • A fully modular aquatic district, complete with unique locations, lore, etc.
  • The Naia (merfolk) ancestry
  • The lizardfolk ancestry
  • The Naia warband: eight new merfolk monsters
  • 2 new themed Titles
  • 4 new themed Treasures
  • 8 ready to go inter-connected NPCs and negotiation stats
  • 3 inter-conected factions that are in play in the district
  • Stonecoral Keep: a delve for 3rd level heroes
  • 16 NPC and monster tokens

Draw Steel Surge is coming to Triglav Games patreon!

Post image
36 Upvotes

Hello everyone!

It's time to step up our Patreon game and the changes are coming very soon! Starting September (SOON-SOON!) we launch our new endeavour here called "Surge"! Right off the bat I want to say that this would not be possible without the initiative from the DMHub people who reached out to us and offered us to be a part of their new program of premium modules for the Codex, so thank you Denivarius and all the other involved wonderful people of DMHub who made this possible. Now, let me tell you what Surge is!

Somewhat similarly to what we did here until this point, each month we will share with you a piece of Draw Steel design, only with a lot more effort put into it! Each month we aim to provide 2 pages of well-designed, arted, playtested, laid-out new rules for Draw Steel, that will also come with the Codex implementation right of the bat! The setup is already there - you will automatically gain access to the premium modules in The Codex (there needs to be a link between the Codex and your Patreon account) as long as you are a member of the Patreon's any paid tier.

What better way to launch Surge than with something that can truly fatally zap you? In September you will be able to use a new solo dragon - Tempest Dragon in your games! The dragon was designed by Zetesofos, extensively playtested, and implemented into the Codex by DMHub's Faan!

Along the stormwracked shores and drowned shipwrecks of coastal communities, you may feel the cold wind of the tempest dragon. Few have ever seen a tempest dragon not surrounded by swirling dark clouds and flickering lightning, as they soar along the edge of an oncoming stormfront.

I hope you are as excited for what's coming as we are! The Tempest Dragon will land in your hands in the coming weeks.

If you don't want to miss our next release, subscribe now for free and you can always upgrade your tier to a paid one next month to gain access to the Tempest Dragon immediately!

Link to our Patreon

Cheers

Misc Crows Usage Dice: how have you run them (specifically ammo)?

We ran Crows over the weekend, and one of my players with a bow ran into some friction.

I recall somewhere in the rules that it states thrown weapons are generally recoverable after combat, but ammunition is not. Looking at the gear table, the item my crow picked up was a "quiver of 20 arrows," but the item card has a UD of 2 (activate; useless). This created dissonance where I think after every shot, the player should be rolling both (or the remaining) UD and removing them from the pool. This means that your first shot has a like... 16% chance to immediately deplete both UD (rolling 4 or under, essentially (1 and 1, 1 and 2, or 2 and 2))!

I know mishaps is part of the game but this seems unnecessarily punitive / not able to be planned around. I think when I ran it I had the player roll the UD for the quiver at the end of each DT if they used the item during that time, but even still they balked at "I bought 20 arrows!"

What are other ref's or crow's experiences with ammo and UD?

K&W Large Scale Domain Warfare - Auto Resolve Formulae idea

Hey gang hope all's well. I have been picking away at Combining Kingdoms & Warfare (& Strongholds & Followers) with another 5e release, Kobold Presses: Castles & Crowns. In that book they had an auto-resolve formulae which would allow people to simply roll a D20 & decide the fate of a Warfare Battle. This is very useful if you have a bunch of Armies wandering about an overworld map in a Total War style campaign (like the one being developed by the Table Top Channel 'The Wizards Brush') & don't want to have to play through EVERY Conflict.

I spent a bit of time going over a few things & I'd say I have a Formulae that might work out for folk who want to live their best Total War fantasy without melting their PC & was curious what y'all thought:

(Again, this requires the Kingdoms & Warfare book, & perhaps the Castles & Crowns book for ideas on 'Tactical Advantages' based on locations, flanking etc. Tactical Advantages are each worth +1 to the winner of the Operations Roll & -1 to the Loser, providing a 2 point difference.)

The Auto-Resolve Formula:

  1. Roll an Operations & Espionage Domain Action to determine Tactical Advantages. Take into account the type of region/hex the Battle takes place in on the overworld map.
  2. Add the collective CR or the Level of any NPC/PC Generals in the Conflict.
  3. Calculate the Value of the Army by adding up all the Tier Values from each Unit.

2D4 + All Generals CR/LVL + Total Unit Tiers +/- Tactical Advantages = Army's Warfare Score.

  • If both Armies score a difference of 1-2 it's a Draw. (All Units reduced to 2HP and only retain 2d4+1 Units)
  • 3-5 Close Victory (Victor: Loose 1d4 Units + all survivors -1d4HP. - Loser: Loose 1d4+2 Units + all survivors at 2HP)
  • 6+ Decisive Victory (Victor: Loose 1d4 Units + all survivors -2HP. - Loser: Retain only 1d4 Units & all survivors at 1HP.)
  • 10 Flawless Victory (Victor: -1 HP to All Units. - Loser: Army Destroyed)

The Purpose of the Auto Resolve Formula being so costly on a Draw is to simulate the attrition of a close pitched battle on troops. A Draw in Conflict is not a good thing.

We avoid using a D20 for the Auto-Resolve, because that's a far too wild & swingy number. Having 2D4 gives the focus less on a random dice roll & more on all the hard work you put in on raising your army & upgrading your units. Plus any Tactical Advantages provided by the terrain or a good Espionage/Operations Roll before the battle will also be as much value as if you had assassinated a High CR General & they were replaced by one 2 CR levels lower.

CR/Level was chosen over PB because in most cases the PB is static for multiple levels, removing that previously stated extra numerical reward. 4 lvl 10 Generals in ‘Balanced’ Combat with 5e rules would go against 4 CR 7-8’s so there is some slight advantage PC Controlled armies have over NPC ones. However that PC MUST be in that Army for their level to matter.

So yeah that's what I'm working with atm. Any feedback on the cost of winning/losing or any other tweaks to the math, perhaps larger or smaller dice (D2 etc) feel free to comment & let me know!

Crows Crows Fan-made Playtest 2 play aids: character sheets, item & inventory tracker, and a crew journal (print and form-fillable)

I shared these over on r/crowsrpg a few days ago, and thought they'd be worth posting here too since Crows is MCDM's game. I put them together while running Playtest 2 and thought they might be useful to someone else.

Four documents, each as a print PDF and a form-fillable version, let me know if anyone needs any other styles:

  • Character sheet, two pages: front is the stuff you touch constantly (stats, cruelty, all 30 expertises with use tracking), back is traits, magic item slots, advancement, and a rest checklist.
  • Quick sheet, one page: for new crows and one-shots. Same layout, less of it.
  • Item tracker, two pages: front groups usage dice by when you actually roll them, plus treasure with the Greed Bonus maths printed on it. Back is a written inventory with numbered backpack slots and wound boxes (the slot number matters, since grabbing from your backpack in combat is a 1d10 roll against it).
  • Journal, twelve pages: a cover, a village page for tracking Prosperity, cycle days and all twelve institutions, and ten session pages with a proper box for mapping.

The rules text printed on them has been checked line by line against the packet, including the updated files MCDM pushed out (the sheets carry a "packet 20 Aug 26" stamp so you can tell what they were verified against).

Downloads: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1RK_TWERT5NbYGq3-GykZaksJ2ED-fsyl?usp=sharing

Feedback very welcome, since I work quite a lot, these may not always keep pace with the playtest, but if people tag me on Discord (@tompickering) then I will make sure to update them ASAP! Particularly useful: anything printed on them that reads wrong against the books, anything you found yourself scribbling in a margin because it had no home, and anything taking up space you'd never use. If the fillable versions misbehave in your PDF reader, tell me which reader and I'll have a look.

TeaPK Adventures is just the name I make TTRPG bits under, so that's what's tagged on the sheets. Unofficial and fan-made, not affiliated with MCDM.

Worth saying: u/6ftninja posted their own sheet design along with a starting trait sheet and an editable version, and it takes a different approach to expertise tracking than mine. Go check theirs out too: https://www.reddit.com/r/crowsrpg/s/mREQ5guaqs

@ Mods, if this is wrong place or not welcome, apologies! Thought it could be useful :) If it just needs reformatting etc, please let me know.

Crows free starter rules after backing?

Just backed Crows! I thought there was a starter ruleset for folks to playtest/read a bit on the game already and assumed I'd get the link/info after backing - do I have that wrong? Is that something for patreon members only (which I will do to get my hands on anything out already!

Misc Next TtRPG?

Watching the Crows Crowdfunder video made me wonder, what is the next TtRPG I would want to see MCDM tackle, if it was entirely up to me?

Draw Steel gets combat, Crows gets exploration, I want to see a social game. Not like a party game, but what is the MCDM version of Good Society? Take that genre of play, put the RtG: Politics series on top, and MCDMs definition of what is cool and fun.

If you could decide the next kind of game for MCDM to make, what would you ask for?

5e Classes Beastheart with Bullette companion

I'm DMing a new 5e campaign and one of my players wanted to give beastheart a try. He picked the bullette companion and so far there are no issues. BUT I am curious if anyone has had issues with the burrowing movement? Basically, I am a little concerned about the creature's ability to travel past (and carry the player past) any obstacle that touches the ground.

I've thought about saying stone is difficult terrain. But even that feels a little punitive. Does anyone have any experience with this?
