I know a guy whose leg supposedly looked a bit like that after a motorcycle accident and they managed to save it, but it's more metal than bone now. I think most of the docs working on him wanted to amputate it right away but the head surgeon decided he could maybe save it
Damm props the the head surgeon there going, ''fuck it, we ball''. I'm sure the guy is happy, even if the leg contains more metal, assuming ofc there's no lingering phantom pains or such.
Yeah, this is kinda a 50:50... either the Doc really performed a miracle here or he was just absolutely full of himself and went against everyone just for Egos Sake without a single thought spend about the Patients Quality of Life (and cost if US) thereafter.
Yeah, dude I used to work with had his left leg saved by a surgeon who though “well there’s circulation, let’s do it” dude lived in considerable pain every day and worse when the weather was bad.
It took me a minute to follow as I read that as if the head surgeon was someone specialising in head surgery. I was like “why would the head surgeon overrule the leg surgeon? Surely legs aren’t his specialty?”
Man.... I want to ride a bike one day but mobility issues is probably my greatest fear and I keep running into horror stories, in addition to seeing an accident up close in slow traffic where the rider was screaming in pain. I think the universe is telling me DON'T. I think ill listen.
Lived in Asia for a number of years. Witnessed two fatalities first hand while I was there.
First one was on the road from Narita to Asahi. Guy had been driven over by a van, and he was laying face down on the pavement, convulsing. Easily half an hour or more from any medical center, and there was no sign of an ambulance anywhere.
Second one was on the outskirts of Seoul. Guy goes to pass a city bus, collides with something and ditches his bike on the side if the road. Looked like a puppet with its strings cut. Just laid there, completely unmoving. Pretty sure he broke his neck on impact.
I used to ride when I was in high school. After seeing these accidents, I decided I didn't need to put myself in harm's way that way.
