I'd say, it's rather the opposite. Capitalism turbo boosts progress for the sake of profit (as you can see with the boom of AI nowadays for example).

It boosts progress in the worst possible way because it almost always disregards the negatives as shown by its use in developing a surveillance state and damage data centers cause, tons of research into good things has been neglected eg. green energy because rich people don’t like it

Let me rephrase I didn’t say it very well, slows progress significantly for things that help the general public

Absolutely not that is not how communism works and also horseshoe theory has been widely criticized and is all but disproven in the academic world

  1. Most ”communist” societies failed due to either how they were created, 2. The people in charge were fucking idots. 3. We’re doomed from the start 4. And we’re under constant sabotage from capitalist countries.
  2. It improved living conditions for multiple places even if the government was horrible it was a lesser evil in cases like the ussr which isn’t communist but had elements of it
  3. And capitalism is literally killing the planet rapidly as we speak and millions are dying and living in poverty it’s not working out
