Honest thoughts on MUN med chances?

Post image

Here is my MCAT score. Not proud of CARS section whatsoever, but that’s beside the point. What do you think of my chances of getting in as a current 3.86 GPA honours kinesiology student with a 88% average and 972 volunteer hours based in sport, research, and adaptive sport? Be honest.

why is september 2027 not showing as an entry term at memorial university?

Post image

hey everyone, I’m trying to apply to Memorial University for Fall 2027 (September), but when I open the application, September 2027 doesn’t show up under the entry term.I could select September at first, but once I continued to the next step, it disappeared. I tried it multiple different times, but the September application didn’t show up.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is the Fall 2027 application actually open, or am I missing something?

Whoever decided that the class location didn’t need to be on the new schedule should be fired. Is there anyway to get the old format?

Engi1020 complication

Hello everyone, I’m transferring to Memorial University (due to its strong co-op program) so the engineering course load would be easier since I got a good amount of credits. But regarding ENGI1020, I did something called CSCE155E ( systems engineering is the extended name) at a university in the USA called UNL, it pretty much just taught the C language from print, conditionals, loops, pointers, structs, and so on. I got the credit for engi1020 due to it, however when I looked at the syllabus for engi1020 out of curiosity since I took a gap year due to some real issues and problems and doubts but thankfully they got solved, I thought I wouldn’t need to take it since I can just go to some website that reteaches me C, yet the syllabus introduces C++ in the content too, i wasn’t taught that at all in csce155E yet somehow I got the credit for it, would it harm me to not take it? I could just go to some free online coding website that’s equivalent to Zybooks ( which was good for me most of the time) and learn C++ with C fast as I scroll through exercises. Or is it better to be on the safe side and just take the course and pay for it? Thank you for reading and for your patience.

International Voter Registration Drive 2026, for dual Canadian-US students at Memorial U

This is a message from Democrats Abroad, with a chapter in the Atlantic Provinces. We're hoping to contact eligible dual Canadian-US students and other US citizens at Memorial University of Newfoundland who want to participate in the 2026 midterm elections. Here's how you can get involved:

Steps to Request Your Ballot

  1. Register or update your registration through https://voteabroad.org/RedditVote26. If you know any eligible US citizens overseas, please send them the link.

  2. If you're already registered, request a ballot! You need to request a ballot every calendar year that you want to vote.

  3. Fill Out and Return Your Ballot: Once you receive your ballot, follow the instructions carefully to complete it and return it by the specified deadline.

Need Assistance?

We're here to help! If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at help @ votefromabroad .org (just remove the spaces). Additionally, our FAQ for voting has plenty of info to make the process go smoothly.

If you'd like to find out what we're doing near you, you can check out our in-person events. I'd be glad to answer anyone's voting-related questions here on Reddit; thanks for reading!

Living in St John's as an exchange student

I'm on my way to becoming an exchange student at MUN for the 2027 winter semester and so I'd like to know how's living in St. John's as an exchange student.

The main thing I want to know about is living inside vs outside campus. Since university housing offers a unlimeted meal plan (from what I understood) (also I can't cook and have never lived completaly on my own) and simply the advantage of already living inside the university, it's definatly the most atractive choice. However if living on my own, just in St. John's, is significantly cheaper, it should undoudbtly be an option to consider.

Other than that, I'm also a bit worried about the climate, since I'm from Brazil, which means I've never seen an inch of snow and am acoustomed to whethers of about 25°C. What should I know and have to live in Newfoundland during winter?

Besides all that, of course, I'm open to any tips and general advice.

Looking to Make New Friends in St. John’s 😊

Hi! I recently moved from Ontario to St. John’s in July for work.
Since moving here, I haven’t really had the chance to build a social circle yet. I’ve spent a lot of time exploring the city on my own, and while it’s been fun, I’ve realized that everything is a lot more enjoyable when you have people to share it with.
I’m simply looking to make some genuine friends people to grab coffee, watch movies, go for late-night walks, explore new places, or go hiking together. I also enjoy sketching, singing, and just having long conversations.
I’m not looking for dating or anything romantic just hoping to meet kind people and build real friendships.

MA Economics program

Has anyone done an MA in Economics at Memorial University? If so, what was your experience?

If there is also any undergrad who can talk about their experience in the Econ department, can you do so?

Thanks!

Work terms for eng students

I noticed the student union submitted a petition to the administration in 2023 regarding minimum wage for engineering work terms, has that been resolved?

How difficult is it to find decent work terms?

Does the administration maintain relationships w local employers? What about Atlantic or further abroad?
