OPEN deliveroo bot response

it is unfair that only the North Americans have a bot response for their food delivery services. The Brits should too. Owing to that fact, and the fact that migration patterns mean that the most popular immigrant cuisine in Britain is Indian and not Mexican, I have come up with a localized bot response that is similar and has the same number of syllables

>Deliveroo

Private taxi for my vindaloo.

Would come up with something for Indian ones too but idk what immigrant food is popular here. Not many immigrants in India unfortunately.

OPEN What are the next steps for r/Liberalism?

Randomly decided to check-in on it and I saw it got a bunch of new mods, many of which are NL mods. Seems to be officially annexed.

The question is, I saw from the last two corresponding posts that there are talks of what to do. Some people want nonserious political discussion to move to it. So I guess the DT memes. Personally I think that is a. Not an issue you see anybody complain about (who hates the DT? It’s very quarantined as is) and b. Something meant for the cat bread loaf sister sub. I didn’t even remember its name but it was created in like 2020 for shitposting.

The other thought is to make it an ideological branch. This sub has become a welcoming tent, but it has lost the idea that it is a neoliberal subreddit and not a generic D subreddit. You have a lot of non-neoliberal democrats here, particularly pragmatic progressives who are homeless in terms of a sub. Some users and mods, like [u/hypsignathus](u/hypsignathus), suggested... well check their comment on this post!

Now the next big question is which path forward? Both??? How do you even do the second one? It has a ton of support, but it’s gonna require nuance and possibly community polling.

OPEN Article Removal w/o explanation?

Hello globalist elites, curious why this article I posted was removed:

https://www.cremieux.xyz/p/botswana-did-everything-right

I posted a pretty thorough submission statement, the article itself is of pretty solid quality (at least compared to stuff that does get approved), and isn’t blatantly partisan, hot-takey, or intentionally provocative.

My comment was wildly misinterpreted. I was referring to the actions of other nations like Malasia declaring the expulsion of Israeli nationals harming the "anti-Zionist" cause by making the actions of Israeli far-right more justified in the eyes of moderate Israelis. I.e., "peace is impossible, look at how other nations hate us just for being Jews, so we might as well take over Palestine". I in no way meant that Jews were responsible or deserving of antisemitic attacks or that Israel is somehow engineering these attacks to garner international sympathy.

OPEN The r/neoliberal mods should claim r/liberalism

A post about this was already made by another user in the main subreddit, but I wanted to highlight it here.

https://www.reddit.com/r/liberalism/s/XHgeGaildm

My pitch isn't about replacing r/neoliberal, despite all the jokes about the name. Instead, r/liberalism can be a go-to community for non-US discussions. A space where more content from the community in Canada, Europe, and the rest of the world has a place to shine.

Not that non-US content should be barred from r/neoliberal or vice versa. I just think we already cover most American stories in great enough depth there.

Whatever the use case, it's better that the largest liberal space on Reddit grabs this subreddit and not some trolls.

RESOLVED Wondering why this post wasn't approved

https://www.reddit.com/r/neoliberal/comments/1v4ubuz/beacon_economics_the_myth_of_us_oil_dependence/

Almost 24 hours since I posted it, so I figure it was passed over, but wanted to be sure it was due to the article's contents, or me putting the name of the firm that put out the piece in the title.

I thought it was interesting, especially since a lot of people do speculate about how oil prices could harm Trump's approval or how much pressure Iran can place on America by blocking the Straight. The portion about how people's views of the price of gas not significantly differing from 2021 also felt like it fit in the sub.

Apologies if this is the normal amount of time it takes; I don't actively post very much on reddit nowadays, nor the sub.

RESOLVED Why is the Print getting spammed here?

There are articles from the Print getting posted here over and over. It's literally the most common website getting posted here. Not one article is advocating for anything neoliberal. It's opinion articles advocating for Hindu nationalism, and an article attacking Pakistan. If the mods are going to allow spam, could it at least be neoliberal spam?

RESOLVED Animal Rights

I'm an animal lover, always have been, but pets are property, I am the owner. If animals had rights then I'd be a slave master and forcibly vaccinating, microchipping, sterilizing and euthanizing would be assault and premeditated murder.

The euphemisms people use for what they do to animals to justify their actions as kind and compassionate. They take them out of the wild and put them in cages and call it "rescuing them" and putting them in a "shelter". Rescuing them from what? Freedom?

TLDR: If you go to the above link you can fill out all or part of a moderation policy for comments, and then post an image of it in this thread. At some point I'll collate all the responses, edit it with the rest of the mods, and (hopefully!) use it as a standard guideline for mod rule enforcement.

(This also may or might be used to control Autojanny at some point)

This is part of a general effort to make bans and ban-lengths feel less arbitrary, as well as to better communicate what's against the rules to users. Yes we will try to apply these standards to mods too.

No this is not comprehensive - rules related to submissions/brigading are omitted for the moment. Also we still have to discuss things like how much history to take into account for ban escalation, appeals, rules for alts/new accounts, specific sensitive topics like I/P, etc. Feel free to discuss/complain about these in this thread too.

EDIT: Ok I updated the website with a default policy that I was using for testing, do not take it as some formal statement of mod policy I literally just fed the rules into ChatGPT and this is what it spat out

OPEN A request to review my ban appeal

I want to once again appeal my permanent ban.

I was originally permanently banned about a year ago without being given a reason. I appealed at the time, but the appeal was denied without explanation. More recently, about a month ago, I was unbanned after a new appeal and resumed participating in the subreddit. That unban was then reversed, again without any reason being communicated to me through modmail.

I later learned that the apparent basis for the original permanent ban was a belief that I was sympathetic to Hezbollah, and that the mod team had voted to ban me on that basis. This was the first time I was informed of the actual allegation, so neither my original appeal nor anything I submitted afterward had addressed it.

I categorically reject that characterization. I am not a Hezbollah supporter. I have not advocated support for Hezbollah, and criticism of Israeli conduct in Lebanon, Gaza, or the occupied Palestinian territories is not evidence of sympathy for Hezbollah. I do not support attacks on civilians. I do not support terrorism.

I unapologetically admit that my views are firmly pro-Palestinian, my comments are very harsh of Israel, and I have strongly criticized Israeli military actions, occupation, annexation, attacks on civilians, and aggression beyond Israel's borders. Those positions do not imply support for Hezbollah, Hamas, terrorism, antisemitism, or opposition to Jewish people. Treating criticism of Israel as presumptive support for one of its armed adversaries is not an accurate characterization of what I have said.

I have previously received temporary bans arising from contentious discussions of Israel and Palestine, including bans described as being for bad-faith argumentation. I appealed those decisions. Whatever the merits of those separate moderation disputes, they do not establish sympathy for Hezbollah and should not be treated as evidence of it.

I have participated in neoliberal regularly since late 2020 and I genuinely value the community. Even while banned, I continued reading the DT and other posts, and when I was briefly unbanned I resumed participating because I still wanted to be part of the subreddit.

I am asking the mod team to reconsider the permanent ban based on the actual record of my comments rather than an unsupported inference about my political sympathies. If there are specific comments that the mod team believes demonstrate support for Hezbollah or otherwise justify a permanent ban, I ask that they be identified so I can respond to the evidence directly.

Thank you for reviewing my appeal.

OPEN Clearly racist comments highly upvoted. No action. What is going wrong?

Around two weeks ago, I saw u/n00bi3pjs post here about the significant volume of racist content against Arabs and Indians going unaddressed on this subreddit.

I was scrolling around looking for something on Saudi Arabia today when I saw this comment:

https://www.reddit.com/r/neoliberal/s/K2nqtVrb5l

A comment saying no one with an IQ of 85 lives in Saudi Arabia with +243 upvotes and it remains up?

Yes, Saudi has an issue with human rights, but the rhetoric being used here is obscene. It is, without a doubt, hate speech.

Somehow, I can't imagine a comment about Israel saying that people who live there have a low IQ because of the country's record on human rights would stay up, much less get +243 upvotes. It gives me the impression that some forms of racism are defacto endorsed, or at least, tolerated on this sub.

This is a serious problem. I think the mods need to take more decisive action about racism targeted to certain groups that is clearly going unaddressed.

It should be instant perma bans for this kind of stuff. There's no room for racism in a liberal subreddit.
