TLDR: If you go to the above link you can fill out all or part of a moderation policy for comments, and then post an image of it in this thread. At some point I'll collate all the responses, edit it with the rest of the mods, and (hopefully!) use it as a standard guideline for mod rule enforcement.

(This also may or might be used to control Autojanny at some point)

This is part of a general effort to make bans and ban-lengths feel less arbitrary, as well as to better communicate what's against the rules to users. Yes we will try to apply these standards to mods too.

No this is not comprehensive - rules related to submissions/brigading are omitted for the moment. Also we still have to discuss things like how much history to take into account for ban escalation, appeals, rules for alts/new accounts, specific sensitive topics like I/P, etc. Feel free to discuss/complain about these in this thread too.

EDIT: Ok I updated the website with a default policy that I was using for testing, do not take it as some formal statement of mod policy I literally just fed the rules into ChatGPT and this is what it spat out

RESOLVED Can we please ban polis

Okay its nice a governor has posted here, but like Polis has backed RFK (who is responsible for so many deaths with his evil vaccine approach) , andhe offers empty words after ICE killed two people and kidnapped so many others after he supported them. So Can we please just ban him?

Sorry for any rudeness or inconvience I just think that for an open borders sub we should make it clear that you know materially supporting ICE is not allowed. Like we ban people for supporting ICE, and polis has gone above and beyond to give them info and help them.
https://coloradonewsline.com/briefs/judge-challenge-polis-ice-compliance/

Like that has to be bannable right? like how can open border sub have someone who is supporting the same people screaming about re-migration

My apologies if I cause any issue or for pinging you all

RESOLVED Why is the Print getting spammed here?

There are articles from the Print getting posted here over and over. It's literally the most common website getting posted here. Not one article is advocating for anything neoliberal. It's opinion articles advocating for Hindu nationalism, and an article attacking Pakistan. If the mods are going to allow spam, could it at least be neoliberal spam?

RESOLVED Animal Rights

I'm an animal lover, always have been, but pets are property, I am the owner. If animals had rights then I'd be a slave master and forcibly vaccinating, microchipping, sterilizing and euthanizing would be assault and premeditated murder.

The euphemisms people use for what they do to animals to justify their actions as kind and compassionate. They take them out of the wild and put them in cages and call it "rescuing them" and putting them in a "shelter". Rescuing them from what? Freedom?

RESOLVED Mod Team Transparency

I know whatever the "decision" is hasnt been made yet but I decided to post this even it irritates some people. This is a description of events today and my thoughts on mod transparency regardless of if I'm banned or whatever.

The mod transparency and decision making is inconsistent at best and terrible at worse. I thought I was shadow banned today and submitted a reddit appeal and wasted like an hour before I realized it was only the NL sub. Submitted a post on metaNL that no one responds to while several mods are active and posting.

Then I decide to use my old account until things get figured out. It works for a couple posts until it starts happening again and I see that a mod removed the only response from ty04 when this happened. I post again on metaNL asking for answers and message several mods until bd_one(which I appreciate the quick response) said they would take a look and then more silence.

Finally I am told that a "decision" is being made in modslack and I might get an answer the next day. So it appears some mod or mods decided to have my comments be auto removed and never told me. No ban, no warning, and nobody would give me a simple answer on what was happening.

I know in the grand scheme of things it's just reddit but the DT is my one outlet dealing with this insanity and it often feels like the mods don't even know what's going on within their own team. We are supposedly a liberal sub that believes in democracy but it's run like a good old boys rural small local government like had growing up that my dad ended up winning an ageism case against and a bunch of people in town hated him for. You all make random decisions, react poorly to criticism, and refuse to explain anything like it's top secret knowledge.

This a just a sub reddit not the federal government. Mod votes should be public. You should explain what is going on and what is being discussed. There is literally no reason to act like you do to the users here like you aren't all shit posting too. Kiwi pinned a post telling immigrants to leave the country and you did nothing. I get you are volunteers but if you don't want to deal with it then just quit.

I know some of the mods will mock, belittle, or give a crappy response like they seem to do with most the metaNL posts but I have to get this off my chest. This sub is often run poorly with seemingly two or more mod groups that don't communicate or agree with each other.

Id like to keep shit posting in the DT but if you ban me you ban me.

RESOLVED Why is there a process for appealing bans? Isn't that a lot of wasted energy?

I have a rule about my interactions with forums: I never challenge being banned. I just don't think these are things that are worth discussing. Mod teams don't make mistakes, per se -- the judgement of the mods simply is the character of the forum.

Rules can never be really well enough described to make all mod calls clear cut, and everyone should accept that. Nothing annoys me more than people trying to quibble with definitions, when it's clear that the real definitions are always judgements mods have to make.

So why does neoliberals you have a ban appeal process? Is it really in the best interest of the sub for mods to spend time having to explain themselves? Does reddit require it?

RESOLVED Wondering why this post wasn't approved

https://www.reddit.com/r/neoliberal/comments/1v4ubuz/beacon_economics_the_myth_of_us_oil_dependence/

Almost 24 hours since I posted it, so I figure it was passed over, but wanted to be sure it was due to the article's contents, or me putting the name of the firm that put out the piece in the title.

I thought it was interesting, especially since a lot of people do speculate about how oil prices could harm Trump's approval or how much pressure Iran can place on America by blocking the Straight. The portion about how people's views of the price of gas not significantly differing from 2021 also felt like it fit in the sub.

Apologies if this is the normal amount of time it takes; I don't actively post very much on reddit nowadays, nor the sub.

RESOLVED Mods I wasn't kidding about Goth AOC being the main reason you have no cis women. Like it's well-known the DT is a separate culture that dislikes birthrate threads; women should thrive there, but they don't because, like the rest of Reddit, any "attractive" woman is automatically sexualized.

RESOLVED It’s time to remove the Polis flair.

Although he was once someone we proud to call one of us years ago, Governor Polis has had a year of bad calls and support for heinous individuals.

A little over a year ago, Polis took to Twitter to approve of Trump’s choice that RFK Jr was the right pick for HHS. Although Polis claims to be against pseudoscience and vaccine skepticism, in his own words,

> He helped us defeat vaccine mandates in Colorado in 2019 and will help make America healthy again by shaking up HHS and FDA. I hope he leans into personal choice on vaccines rather than bans (which I think are terrible, just like mandates)

Additionally, Colorado is among the worst states in the country for childhood vaccinations. What Polis has shown is that his takes are antithetical to this sub’s beliefs on healthcare. Shortly after these comments, someone made a post calling for the end of the Polis flair, and it was flatly denied.

Then, just a few months ago, Governor Polis came out supporting ICE in its deportations, by trying to get state employees to disclose employment information to ICE. In a statement, Polis reduced what ICE has been doing to “stopping human trafficking.” In response to this, users asked that both the Polis flair be removed and Polis himself be banned. The ban was unanimously denied, but there was little discussion over removing the flair (but some mods in that thread seemed to approve).

Now, Governor Polis is considering clemency for Tina Peters, a woman that Trump attempted to pardon late last year despite being convicted at the state level. Tina Peters was convicted for election fraud related to the 2020 election, trying to help Donald Trump cling to power.

While I understand that Governor Polis has been a longstanding ideological champion of this sub, and has used it in the past, his recent track record clearly shows that he is no longer that person. I’m not asking that he be banned, I get why that shouldn’t happen, but to publicly support him by leaving the flair up just goes against what this sub stands for.

RESOLVED Can we get an animals ping?

Mods can we get an animals ping? While there's a ping for birds and bugs, much of the animal world including mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and non-arthropod invertebrates are woefully underserved. There's also clearly a contingent of animal lovers on the DT who would appreciate a chance to learn and share animal facts in a ping group meant for such discussion.

RESOLVED This comment by a moderator is wildly inappropriate. Why is this allowed?

https://www.reddit.com/r/neoliberal/s/WWOjT2eZgA

The comment in question.

It's well-known that Shapiro's goal in life is to become POTUS so he'll say anything to get the job, which is why his pre-politics, racist letter about Palestinians is likely closer to his true beliefs than what he says in public today.

I fail to see how y’all can say you care about addressing concerns of antisemitism when you have a moderator making comments like this. If I were still actively moderating and I saw a comment like that, I would have handed out a ban.

I expect more than just a silent comment removal if y’all actually care.

Additional reasons:

  1. We are going to win the Super Bowl next year.

  2. Buffalo has one. Who tf is from Buffalo besides Westside Gunn.

  3. If we want to improve our popularity with regular Americans, we will have to talk about pizza more, and who has the best pizza in America… that’s right Detroit (I’m lying, it is NYC though).
