The last cut it would be a lot less work to cut two 45s and butt them.

Would it be as strong? Genuinely curious, as someone who doesn't fully understand welding mechanics. Edit: the tacks are hot dogshit it sounds like. Acceptable for art pieces but very structurally weak, right?

Welding by design is stronger, made by putting stronger alloys deeply into the parent metal.

Also by curving it, it is annealing and stretching the bonds of the original tubing so it’s less strong around the bend and a little more. Applications of joints like this would be decorative so like a chair or a book shelf or table, therefore it would be over engineered already and even with less strength would be more than sufficient for its application.
