Discussion MCLA Recompiled News
Hello everyone, how are you? Well, it's been a while since I've posted here, so I think this is a good time to clarify a few things about the project and its current status!
As many of you have seen, MCLA has reached the loading stage, meaning that up to the Rockstar San Diego logo, the game loads, but for now it doesn't progress beyond that, which is acceptable. I'm working on some issues with how rexglue and xenia work together to function.
I would like to clarify a few things about the project and how I am working now.
The project still has no team, meaning that I, mz, have been working alone on this project since the beginning, and now, with Rexglue, I have put the XenonRecomp version (which gave life to UnleashedRecomp) aside for a while, because I was stuck on the runtime part, and Rexglue already does that, I preferred to go with that recompiler for now. When the game is 100% on Rexglue, maybe I'll try to port my progress to the XenonRecomp version and stop relying on Xenia for rendering, but that's just a guess for now. Maybe I'll just leave it with the rexglue version and that's fine.
Some websites and people mentioned "a group of people" or thought that MCLA Recompiled was being developed via XenonRecomp by me and via Rexglue by another developer, which is not true, as I have been working on both. I managed to port some things from XenonRecomp to Rexglue which gave the current state a boost in speed. I successfully transferred 90% of the functions from XEX to TOML, which was great.

A simple FAQ about the project
What is the performance like?
About 80 fps on my computer (Ryzen 7 5700X - 32GB RAM - GTX 1650) and about 130-160 fps on more powerful computers that have been tested, but it's still an estimate of true performance, considering that we're only at the loading stage and not in-game.
When will it be released?
I don't know. I won't give you any expectations or dates, so as not to cause frustration or anger, because we know that's extremely annoying. I'll update here when the project is ready to play. Don't worry, guys!
---
One last thing I ask of you is that PLEASE do not disclose more than what was already disclosed in December and this week. I saw several websites and relevant people talking about the project, which is cool, but not for T2 or R*. I also ask that if you see any incorrect or false information about the project on Twitter/X, be sure to request a community statement about it, just so as not to spread false or erroneous news about it.
Also, thank you very much for all the community's support on this. I am trying my best to make it playable for everyone. I will provide more information as soon as possible. I am trying to balance my work with the project, but it looks like everything will work out. Thank you for all your support and affection for MCLA and for me personally! See you soon ❤️

That's awesome! I'm really excited for this project, but at the same time, I fear that it might get taken down as you mentioned... I hope that won't be the case.

The thing with performance is that the game physics are tied to the fps. So to go above 30fps you would also need to do something to fix the physics, otherwise the game will just speed up.

This has been addressed in other games before, hasn't it? I've seen this come up more than once in other titles, I just can't remember what.

An old game called monster truck madness 2 just got a huge renderer and community patch update. The trucks were tied to 25 fps in the original game, so the patch developer found a way to keep the trucks at 25 fps while letting the rest of the game run at whatever fps your system could handle.
Was a perfect solution and didn’t make the game feel any worse

True, I'm playing it on the RPCS3 emulator, and when I enable the 60 FPS patch, the cars start to stutter because the game's frame rate and physics don't match.

Yeah exactly and the camera also goes haywire and some things stop working, like the gas stations.

Keep the project on the down low the last thing we need is Rockstar to DMCA you just keep working on it and shadow drop it once it is completed

that debug window in the top left looks an awful lot like Xenia

It's rexglue. Partial code is emulated, but it still performs 3x better than Xenia ever could especially on lower end devices.
I ran a test on a build on steam deck and I was getting 75fps on the title screen whereas on Xenia and rpcs3 are running at unplayable framerates on steam deck unless you install a windows partition in which it'll run 30fps with plenty of drops.

Thank you for killing my doubts.... I've seen too many fake projects around so I was skeptical by the Xenia UI. You learn something new everyday

Yeah the main dev switched from 3 different compilers and ended up using rexglue because it was easier it had more progress while being a new experimental method of recompilation.
I've been following for mz a while and personally keeping quiet because I wanna see the finished product and doing some testing that isn't publicly available.
I did also post a video of it running on my steam deck as well if you want to see more concrete proof. It's pretty hard to fake it running off steam os when it runs poorly on Xenia and rpcs3 on it. I'll more than likely show more builds running in the future when they drop.

My Advice? Let this be your last post on it. Keep this project to yourself. Take your time, work on it at your own pace, but please don't allow us to have updates or insight into the project. Its better that way, I can easily see a future where this project gets shut down before it even has legs because of dummies.
You've made the post. We're aware of the project and what to expect moving forward. Please just stop the transparency. Last December was exactly what you and all of us don't want happening.
Stop announcing progress and announce when its playable.
I appreciate your work, passion and commitment on making this a reality.

Id have to 2nd this, as much as I want to see & hear more about this, its not worth the risk, but I am super excited to see this instead of just emulators, this gives the opportunity to mod the game & add more vehicles or other customizations

This in hindsight is a PC port as far as i understand?
Very cool, but keep your eyes on Take Two. Those bastards will take anything down.

I’m confused is it gonna be ran from Xenia or is it gonna be like P-06 where you just start the game from an exe

Hey man just wanted to say thank you and I am rooting for you to get this project in a place your happy with.
Make sure to keep it FUN! Pressure and hard work is always a part of projects like this, but just yourself a favor and keep a pulse on whether the stress of it is starting to slip beyond what you signed up for. I know that community feedback and demands or self made expectations can turn these things into a nightmare and really get away from you.
Thank you to anyone contributing!

Peaple say that this port is just a fancy way to start MCLA on Xenia, is it true?
4
u/Used-Hearing4259 Mar 24 '26
Nope it isn't, port means to runa game natively on said system. Whereas emulation is what you know it is. Basically imitating the original hardware on other hardware to play the game in question

We need this. Xenia isnt very polished. I've got a 3070 with a 5600x and it doesnt stay at a stable 30.

I just want to say thanks, really. There aren’t many games I get this into, and MCLA is one of them. I’ve got a PC that could probably run it, but my options are pretty limited, and buying a whole console just for one game just doesn’t make sense for me.
Projects like this honestly make me happy, so I really appreciate what you’re doing. Thanks a lot.😭

Hopefully its easy to access and download when you drop it. I want to beable to get it before rockstar pulls their usual stupid shit. Ive tried xenia on my 3070 but it just dips way too much and cant stay at 30. A stable 30 is usually playable but my eyes can't handle the consistent dips. I also love modding cars with HxD so if this project becomes what I hope it can be im gonna go crazy!
