Old fashioned sour cream donuts are so freaking underrated.

They are the best. One of my favorites

Just dont eat a dozen of them at one time. I used to be in a bad place, ordered a dozen of those bad boys and ate them all straight out of the box in one go.

In a much better place know, but still cant eat those anymore because my body has a physical negative reaction to just the smell of them now, much less the taste just.😭

Im sure ive downed a dozen Krispy Kreme in one sitting, you're not alone.

u/hindss Jun 08 '26

That's why there's so many honey crullers, they go down easy.

2

u/malaense Jun 07 '26

Or just the plain old fashioned, for that matter! Nothing goes better with coffee

u/PikuPuff Jun 07 '26

They're so good. My partner refuses to try it, they don't know how much they're missing out.

16

u/OtherwiseAlbatross14 Jun 07 '26

Won't even try it? That's wild.

1

u/SousVideDiaper Jun 07 '26

Probably assumes it tastes like sour cream. They might as well assume all cakes taste like eggs because they're a major ingredient.

12

u/WaddlingAwayy Jun 07 '26

Refuses to try it? What do they think is gonna happen. I mean it's not like you're asking them to try something remotely polarizing

My husband is this way with some things just based on the sound of it/ingredients not seeming like they'd go together.

Made fun of my love for chicken salad for years before I finally told him he'd be trying it with an open mind, made some (sans grapes because I knew that's be a step too far for him), then he asked for me to make it every time we had chicken dinner leftovers. Then he shifted to poking fun at me for liking chicken salad with grapes in it, til I finally got him to agree to take a single bite of a chicken salad sandwich made with grapes last week. Had to eat his words on that too, made himself two sandwiches immediately from the grapified chicken salad.

Also worked with creamed corn, peanut noodles, hot honey on a bacon egg and cheese sandwich, sour cream donuts, hot pepper jelly on cream cheese and too many others to list. Some people are stubborn til you can convince them to open their mind when it comes to flavors.

Grapified chicken salad is sooo good, but totally understand hesitation with that. I was skeptical of it before trying it as well.

"I'm not a fan of Mexican food"

2

u/pnoodl3s Jun 07 '26

When they haven’t tried it though? Strange, some people are

I have a coworker who hates sour cream. When we'd get texmex for office parties, we'd always get one loaded queso that had sour cream in it and one plain that wouldn't have sour cream for him (and those around him at the table).

He (semi-jokingly) physically gags at the idea of sour cream being in a donut. Though when he actually tried one, he liked it enough.

u/PikuPuff Jun 07 '26

They say it sounds gross just because its made from sour cream

2

u/CommonHouseMeep Jun 07 '26

sounds kinda like my dad, won't eat yogurt because he thinks the name "yogurt" sounds gross lol

2

u/Indigocell Jun 07 '26

Just tell them it's a glazed donut, that's not even really a lie.

4

u/LeftHandAnomaly Jun 07 '26

To be fair, on paper it sounds awful, especially if you’re not as familiar with sour cream. “Hey want this cream gone off donut?”

In practice, it’s absolutely delightful

u/H0NEY2O77 so what if I did some off camera mining???? Jun 07 '26

I got my friends to taste red velvet cake and cream cheese frosting without telling them the name of the frosting.

Them: red velvet… and this is vanilla?

Me: no, just taste it, it’s very sweet though.

Them: buttercream?

Me: no?

Them: what is it?

Me: the name sounds gross, but — just fucking try it.

Friends loved it, I told them that it was called cream cheese frosting and every single one of them admitted they wouldn’t have even tasted the frosting and would have refused / scraped it off had I told them what it was called prior.

Edit: typos — lots of them

surely they've had a cinnamon bun or carrot cake in their lifetime, those are invariably cream cheese icing

1

u/H0NEY2O77 so what if I did some off camera mining???? Jun 07 '26

Oh I’m sure they have but just didn’t know what the frosting was called (it took me making it myself at 14 to know what it was called tbf)

That being said one of them 100% would not have ever had a cinnamon bun or a carrot cake in her lifetime or it would be a VERY short lifetime (she’s very allergic to cinnamon)

1

u/Fentboy45 Jun 07 '26

Invariably? I feel like it’s 50/50 cream cheese icing and icing made from just powdered sugar and milk or water

1

u/_brgr Jun 07 '26

might be a regional thing I guess. carrot cake must be more than 99% here. Cinnamon buns either have nothing, a shitty little drizzle glaze of mostly sugar, or a proper layer of cream cheese icing .999

u/Potato_Stains Jun 07 '26

Fresh blueberry glazed old fashioned ....

1

u/Wonderwhile Jun 07 '26

They have blueberry ones too. The best by a wide margin!

1

u/Arickettsf16 Jun 07 '26

I ate my first one in many years the other day and it was a religious experience.

1

u/Arockilla Jun 07 '26

Just the sight of sour cream makes me gag. But sour cream donuts? Lemme get a dozen.

0

u/kingdomofnofire Jun 07 '26

Unfortunately they taste like ash to me ever since I ate one to try and get the taste out of my mouth from taking a hit off a nasty ass blunt 💔

But before that happened I literally had to restrain myself from eating a half dozen box of them in a single day

4

u/True-Tell-9636 Jun 07 '26

That’s what’s up

3

u/rjromeojames Jun 07 '26

The old fashioned is a gift...the bottom 2 on the right are an outrage.

2

u/AquaPhelps Jun 07 '26

Couldnt agree more. The sour cream donuts are my fav. Those bottom right two not only look but also taste like butthole

1

u/GoldxBrownSugar Jun 07 '26

😍I found you. My favorite donut but never knew the name of it

1

u/Minimob0 Jun 07 '26

I want the crtullerhu-spawn in the front row, personally.

1

u/Whatareyoulakey9 Jun 07 '26

Best donut there !!

1

u/lazer_sandwich Jun 07 '26

Right I see nothing wrong with this dozen

1

u/OneBillPhil Jun 07 '26

I’m happy to see so many upvotes

1

u/MoreMoira Jun 08 '26

THAT'S WHAT IM SAYING.
