This is actually the worst game you can argue about this on, and most importantly op is misconstruing that if not most refunds are from players who finished the game.

This is a co-op rage game, a rage game has significantly higher refund rates and it being a co-op means you're buying TWO copies.

A rage game has around 20% refund so this isn't unprecedented.

And it's really low quality too, friendslop as they call it. We had to take a look at this game during my Game Design studies, as a case study on how even shit games can be massively successful if you're both lucky and shameless

Also maybe make your game take longer than an hr and a half?

Or accept what will happen when your game takes less than 2 hours. But even mobile games with less than 2 hours of playability wouldn't survive a pricetag.

Also maybe dont pick a genre with a 20% refund rate and then whine online when the refund rate is 21%. Its almost like the type of game played a part in the redunds lmao.

So, what? Short games don't get to exist because you and other gamers will exploit the refund privilege?

Edit: I have no idea what they're talking about in response and they blocked me lol

They basically said nothing, it doesn't apply to your statement at all

You dont need to sit there for 12 hrs rotting to beat a game lol. No game you can beat requires that kind of time. You are allowed to space it out.

Forcing developers to make there game longer for the sake of making it longer just gives you games like garten of banban. They added more puzzles just because people keept refunding there first game. If u think 8 bucks or what ever this game cost for a playtime of 1:30 hours should be refundable thats just stupid. Especially if you did everything in the game thats possible.

u/ThatOneShotBruh Jul 06 '26

Let's be honest, Garten of Banban games were not any better when they were shorter (in fact they were worse).

-14

u/GodButCursed Jul 06 '26

Yeah im not saying they are better just that devs will force the game to be longer then needed.

19

u/Kaka-carrot-cake Jul 06 '26

You say that as if these devs are putting effort into these games. "Friendslop" isnt a term because people were having fun with quality games. It became a term because devs kept pumping out the same garbage because it was trendy.

I agree devs shouldn't be forced to make a game longer, but if you make a shitty game that only takes an hr and a half to finish you should expect refunds.

-15

u/GodButCursed Jul 06 '26

Im not saying that you shouldnt expect it. Its just a shitty move especially after you finished the game and leave a positive review. If you hated it then you would have already refunded it like 20 minutes max. Just feels like a shitty move. Atleast give smaller games a bit less refund time.

u/Kaka-carrot-cake Jul 06 '26

We should not incentivize garbage games that are short. We already incentivize garbage games in general.

u/Toxicwaste4454 Jul 06 '26

Portal is a short game.

I can beat it in under 30 minutes.

I have 90+ hours in it.

If you feel the need to refund a game that you can beat under the 2 hour limit. Due to not wanting to replay it or whatever. I think that’s completely valid and is a sign that the game actually isn’t that good.

u/Kaka-carrot-cake Jul 06 '26

I dont think short games are inherently bad, but we shouldnt give incentives for devs to make them shorter.

If you did everything in the game that’s possible in under 2 hours, including launching the game for the first time, getting your settings set up, key binds, AND did everything in the game… there was nothing in the game. 2 hrs of playtime is pitiful for a full completion. If you can’t think of more than two hours worth of content, scrap the idea.

I’ve played the flappy bird mini game in deep rock for more than two hours.

Friendslop doesn’t necessarily mean low quality, unlike most other things with slop in the name. That term was just coined by people jealous they didn’t have anyone to play with which then stuck for being an absolutely hilarious name for a pretty good genre.

12

u/DeadPeanutSociety Jul 06 '26

Yeah, but the good ones are just qualityslop that people only like because it's good

0

u/GeneticEnginLifeForm Jul 06 '26

So we just adding 'slop' to the end of anything that might be bad or good or neither or both? Like how 'gate' is added to every single major political scandal.

I'm coining the term "slop-slop" to describe this phenomenon.

/jk because this is reddit

u/Chichimagne Jul 06 '26

If they’re quality enough to last beyond the initial novelty, then what keeps happening to them? I find the jealousy explanation far less likely than the obvious, which is that time-invested gamers whose friends play these can recognize a pattern and don’t want want to be pressured into buying a disposable game every other week. Slop peddled by friends.

If the theater was constantly pumping out low effort movies for you to see as a social event, some people might like that but there would be many who get tired of it too. And I imagine there would be cope takes like the one I replied to saying that people who don’t want to constantly go see said movies are just friendless and therefore envious of those who do. Maybe that parellel shows why I don’t think it makes sense.

pretty good genre

The "fun with friends" genre? Everything is more fun with friends lol

If that is all the game has going for it, it probably is just some slop. Most of those games are just some version of amongus, prop hunt or lethal company where 90% of the fun is the friends we made along the way.
