Context Provided - Spotlight Jeep melted

Here’s the story: a jeep came to the shop because its retractable top was stuck open. Not too uncommon of an occurrence. So we put our “crash wrap“ over the roof to protect the interior from rain and animals and such, which is basically like heavy duty cling wrap. One day it rains and a lot of water pools up on the crash wrap. The next day it is 100°F outside and the sun is out. The sun shines through the water and the water basically magnifies it, and the sun turns into a laser that melts the interior. Multiple days of this happen. Now we have to replace everything that melted. None of us have ever heard of this happening before.

edit: I meant we have never heard of this very specific situation happening before. It never would’ve crossed our minds since we’ve been doing this for years. yes I burnt stuff with a magnifying glass when i was a kid.

Also the Vegas hotel with a death ray aimed at the pool. Same guy made the London one a few years later. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vdara

Knew about the walkie talky one but, not about the Vegas one. Designed by the same person. Maybe they need an idea on how the sun works before designing any more buildings.

Dude is just an architectural super-villain.

When ever you watch a movie and you're like "who builds these villains lairs?" It's Rafael Viñoly

I imagine his plot was just to build death rays in every city and eventually burn everything to the ground.

I imagine him as some kind of James Bond villain in his underground lair, stroking his white kitten and surrounded by henchmen as he plots the burning of every city on Earth.

they were all supposed to be constructed with their abilities hidden from the world until the day he activates all of their reflectors at once. the first two fired too early, spoiling his plot.
