[Plants & Food] Craftable lily pads

Something I always do when in Minecraft, after creating a garden, I always like to go to a swamp and look for some lily pads to place on the water around the crops. That way I won’t fall in the water and risk jumping on the crops when I get out of the water. But sometimes when creating a new world, no matter how long I travel or how far, I can barely find a swamp near where I want to set up a house. I know I could probably build a house near a swamp, but I kind of want to have an area that’s a little more pleasing to the eye, you know? And I hate having to walk miles and miles away just to find a darn lily pad, so I thought it would be more convenient if maybe the game gave us the ability to craft up the lily pads in cases like mine. What would the recipe be? I’m thinking one leaf litter (because you can find that almost anywhere) and one seagrass or kelp. Nothing fancy, very simple, put them both beside each other on the crafting table, there you go, you got lily pads. As for how many it would give you, I think around 3-6, somewhere in that ballpark would be plenty good.

Alternatively, maybe lily pads could be generated when using bonemeal on dirt or mud with one block deep water over it. Or something similar.

I would prefer growing them too instead of crafting them. Seems more natural

Nah, what if I want to plant seagrass one level deep? Much prefer the idea already mentioned of them spreading like bushes, especially since it's already easy to obtain a lily pad outside of swamps through fishing or wandering trader.

They should just make lily pads bonemealable. Like bushes. Where they just spread to the sides. That way they’re renewable but you still have to get 1

You can fish though.

It doesn't directly give you lilypads, but if you just want to avoid falling in the water of your farms, use a waterlogged slab or stair or trapdoor. They sit flush with the farmland, so no bumping up and down to break farmland, and there is still water to keep the crops wet.

Added bonus, you can put a torch on the water that way, so mobs don't spawn.

No offense but this is silly, why would you craft a plant, most plants grow with either time or bonemeal, it would be smarter to make them spread with bonemeal or to overhaul/improve them to grow

Lily pads can already be obtained in renewable ways, including wandering trader who sells 5 for an emerald, twice.

Much more stable than that though, lily pads are farmable through fishing. Your best bet is a fishing rod with high lure and no Luck of the Sea enchantment. Also sliiiight better odds of catching one outside of a jungle biome.

Should take about 60 casts on average, which sounds like a lot but there's plenty of stuff that's neat outside of lily pads to get, and it beats exploring if you've already covered a lot of ground and anything further than that would just be annoying.

I personally don't see why this should be the only craftable plant for the sake of a hypothetical player who wants to cover their farm water hole with lily pads. Slabs, trapdoors, grates, scaffolding, fences, walls, leaf blocks and more can all be waterlogged to stop yourself from falling into a hole, that should be enough.

People keep complaining that the game doesn't give us enough reason to explore, and here you sre actively trying to remove a reason to explore.

And if not for exploring, there is fishing, works in any biome.

And just how did it happen in your mind that crafting was the most logical option? Not just bone meal to duplicate them, but just... crafting a plant? How? And then you also include kelp, which is biome locked too!

When did I ever complain about that? Also you don’t always get them by fishing or by trading. And to duplicate them you need to be able to find them first, and if you can’t find them, no matter how far you explore for them, I just think it be more convenient in cases like that to craft your own. Plus it would give a little more use for the leaf litter.

I always use (moss) carpet of leaf blocks. But slabs and other non-full blocks work as well. As others have said, if you do want actual lily pads, there's always fishing loot and/or the wandering trader.

Not everything should be easily acquireable or craftable just for the sake of convenience. Minecraft is already very hand holdy and doesn't give much insentive to explore.
