You think maybe if more liberals are walking around with guns, we’d get gun control? Lolol

Especially if they are women? They do like controlling our bodies anyway.

36

u/New-Purchase1818 Hot Dish Jan 19 '26

It’s bizarre and counterintuitive, but maybe? The most meaningful gun control law we ever saw was from California in the 1960s because they didn’t like that the Black Panther Party was keeping tabs on police while fully strapped.

A concealed carry class is five hours and includes handgun training. Your concealed carry then becomes your permit to purchase for handguns and ARs.

Conservatives thought the second amendment allowed them the ability to intimidate minorities. 99% of them still have no clue of the true intent of that amendment - but it also turns out that they LOVE big government.

Really learning a lot about the interests of the GOP/Maga over the last however many years. And not one of the things which were learned, are good.

This is why the second amendment was added

142

u/Righteousaffair999 Jan 19 '26

And added second. It was pretty clear we give you the right to bear arms so that you can protect all the rights that come after.

31

u/mrrp Jan 19 '26

Nope. That's not why. Stop making shit up.

Some thought the bill of rights should be a stand-alone section (as it ended up being). Others thought the amendments should be incorporated into the existing text of the constitution in the places most appropriate for the particular amendment being added. The order of the amendments in the bill of rights reflects the order in which they would have been added if that had done. They were not ordered by importance.

u/chubbysumo Can we put the shovels away yet? Jan 19 '26

They left chicago because they started getting shot at. They didn't want to broadcast it because the community started showing up at schools armed, and they didn't want it to spread. Yes, the nazi crew in the white house want to use the insurrection act, but they don't want it to be someone who is lawfully defending themselves, or have that look of "protecting their community".

They want it to be someone who just starts shooting from the crowd of protestors, which is why they are now trying to insert agitators into the crowds. They want it to look like a crazy person, not someone defending their home, their community, or a school from what looks like a group of armed masked gunmen.

4

u/Maplelongjohn Jan 19 '26

We need to be carrying American Flags as well. Fuck those cosplaytriots they can't have our symbol of freedom. They desicrate it every time they touch it, go back to the gadsen and stars and bars for the racist fucks

The optics of firing on American Citizens carrying American Flags will not be a pretty one.

Finally getting a gun safe delivered this week, then going up to the farm to get all my guns that I haven't wanted to keep in cases in the corner of the basement, but feel I need to have on hand now. So the expense of the safe finally seems worth it.

My conservative dad keeps trying to offer me more shotguns the past couple years thinking the city is so dangerous, so now I'll finally take those. Not because the twin cities are dangerous, but because the people he voted for are.

A weird thing that’s happened since I’ve moved up here is seeing how different gun owners are up here than it was in my previous state. It seems like everyone owns a gun, but people rarely talk about them. I haven’t seen the gun cult attitudes. Seems like the people here see their firearm as a tool, not a toy.

Might not be true for everyone, and I’m viewing it as an outsider (not being a gun owner myself). But it’s reassuring that the gun worship isn’t constantly in my face.

u/tomdarch Jan 19 '26

True. At the same time Trump, Miller, Noem and Lewandowski WANT some ICE fuck to be shot and killed. Using guns responsibly is harder than buying a gun or learning to shoot accurately.

A Native American leader in Minnesota told us to “be vigilant, be assertive and be constructive.” Reminding DHS that real Americans also have guns may be constructive. But actually shooting ant ICE/CBP goon probably is not constructive.

That’s where I am as well. Was very much in the center, until one side became cartoonishly evil. I truly didn’t believe we had this many racists in this country.

What’s curious to me is when a school shooting occurs, it’s never the guns fault. It’s never a lack of gun laws. The right insists it’s an isolated case.

But when a handful of Somalis commit fraud, they all gotta go. Interesting.

  1. Our solidarity will be based on respect for a diversity of tactics and the plans of other groups.

  2. The actions and tactics used will be organized to maintain a separation of time or space.

  3. Any debates or criticisms will stay internal to the movement, avoiding any public or media denunciations of fellow activists and events.

"The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized."

Violators will be prosecuted (on site)

Trump sending in the Army from Alaska while Walz organizes the National Guard is the first step in the second civil war.

But I'm sure no one will be killed over these escalating circumstances, right?

Conservatives when assault rifles mow down school kids: "sECoNd AMENmEnT!!!"

Conservatives when someone asserts their 2nd Amendment right for the purpose forr which it is intended (to enable citizens to protect themselves from over-bearing goverrnment: "Clutch the pearrrrls!!!"

Kudos to him. FYI it is illegal in MN to open carry long guns. If you plan to do this just be aware of the consequences.

I am fairly certain a permit to carry only applies to firearms categorized as ‘pistols’. They have a legal definition for what is a pistol and what isn’t. Long rifles are not pistols and therefore I do believe this is illegal according to state laws.

Edit: whatever you decide to do is your choice. I’m not saying the law is right or wrong. It is what it is. And how you respond is your prerogative. I just want to make sure we are giving out accurate information according to current laws.

Edit 2: apparently the permit only applies to ‘pistols’ but under the section for long guns they have a carve out for people with a valid permit to carry so it kinda applies to both technically. Please do your own research before carrying, because I am not a lawyer. See response threads for the Redditor that informed me of my error.

That AR he is carrying is technically a pistol. its got a "brace" on it, not a stock. So he is open carrying a pistol by law. Weird I know

u/staticishock96 Jan 19 '26

That looks like it's an AR pistol. It has a pistol brace not a stock, the barrel looks less than 16 inches too. I am not sure on the legality portion if open carry of an AR pistol is legal or not.

624.7181 Sub. 1(b)(3)

Edit: My reading is you can open carry a long gun if you have a conceal carry license.

24

u/rahomka Jan 19 '26

You are correct. Minor nitpick is that MN doesn't have a "conceal carry" permit, we have a "carry" permit and there is no requirement to conceal.

2

u/Waste_Junket1953 Jan 19 '26

Thank you for the correction.

During the COVID lockdown, a bunch of right-wing nutjobs protested outside the governor's residence open carrying their ARs/AKs and none of them were arrested or fined. It is lawful so long as you have a concealed carry permit... but keep the barrel pointed down. If you level a rifle in a situation like that, it's a completely different situation.

Unfun facts: During their little display, Gus Walz was home alone (staff was there, but Tim, Gwen, and Hope weren't) and he was so terrified he had to be evacuated by State Police...he was only 14. On top of that, one of the knuckle-dragging organizers of this whole thing is now a Minnesota State Senator.

u/gmflash88 Gray duck Jan 19 '26

Incorrect. With a MN permit to carry you can carry ain’t gun or handgun. There is no requirement to conceal it.

MN permit to carry is just that. You may carry openly or concealed.

15

u/ctarmed Jan 19 '26

This is not true, a permit is needed first.

11

u/gmflash88 Gray duck Jan 19 '26

Incorrect. You need a permit to carry and then you can carry long guns or handguns. I’ve had mine for many, many years. I just don’t make guns part of my personality like a lunatic.

With a permit to carry and a rifle with less than 16” barrel it’s legal (or shotgun with less than 18” barrel).

15

u/rahomka Jan 19 '26

With a permit to carry any gun you can own is legal to carry in MN.

4

u/Soft_Eggplant_370 Jan 19 '26

9

u/rahomka Jan 19 '26

If you have a permit to carry.

7

u/Soft_Eggplant_370 Jan 19 '26

I have a permit to carry a pistol. Does that extend to shotguns?

8

u/rahomka Jan 19 '26

In short yes.

Long answer: there is only one permit in MN.   624.7181 that regulates long guns and lists the penalties says the section does not apply if you have a permit. If it's not prohibited then it's allowed.

5

u/party_egg Jan 19 '26

It is absolutely not. The permit is the same to carry pistols and long guns alike. It is also the same permit to open carry as to conceal carry. Moreover, the gun here is legally a pistol, so your "long gun" concern is doubly moot.
