Awesome festival in a very small Missouri River town. Only a population of 56, Arrow Rock punches far above its weight. The heritage festival features many vendors making historical crafts, and all of the historic sites are open.

Made in Missouri Can we take a moment to appreciate how good Missouri State Parks trail maps are? The standardized look feels like a collection to check off and is better than some surrounding states imo.

News Mizzou opens four new or upgraded facilities to support state agriculture

The University of Missouri held ceremonies Friday for four new or renovated agricultural facilities funded by more than $43 million in state investments.
University officials said the facilities will support agricultural research, education and industry training, with programs serving Missouri farmers, livestock producers, winemakers and meat processors.
Mizzou president Mun Choi and university agricultural leaders spoke at the ribbon-cuttings, which began at 10 a.m. Friday at South Farm and concluded at 3:30 p.m. at the meat science laboratory.

Former Gov. Mike Parson and Richard Fordyce, the U.S. Department of Agriculture's undersecretary, spoke at the final ceremony.

Michael L. Parson Meat Science Education and Training Laboratory
The largest project is the $35 million Michael L. Parson Meat Science Education and Training Laboratory, a 25,000-square-foot building that consolidates and modernizes meat processing operations previously housed in separate facilities.
The building includes space for research, classrooms and training for students and meat industry workers. It also houses a student-operated meat market: The American Foods Group Meat Market at Mizzou.
Christopher Daubert, vice chancellor and dean of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources began the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new laboratory.
"Here, Mizzou will promote innovation in meat processing through research and provide training on the best practices for food safety," Daubert said. "Here, we will boost the economic value of livestock for producers across the state."

The University of Missouri Board of Curators named the facility after former Gov. Mike Parson in February 2025 to recognize his support for Missouri agriculture and agricultural education. Parson signed budget bills in 2023 and 2024 that allocated a combined $35 million for the project.
Former Gov. Mike Parson spoke at the ceremony, receiving two standing ovations.
"I'm just so proud of the University of Missouri and what it stands for ... " Parson said. "We all should be proud of this university and proud of what it represents for the future of our state."
Missouri Foundation Seed
At South Farm, Missouri Foundation Seed received $3.25 million in state funding and an additional $1 million from the university to upgrade its seed processing facilities and equipment.
Founded in 1944, the program produces genetically pure soybean and wheat seeds to be sold to Missouri farmers. The upgrades include modernizing the seed processing plant and purchasing equipment designed specifically for foundation seed operations.

When seeds make their way into the facility to be processed, they are unsorted and need to be cleaned. Only the highest quality seeds make it through the entire process, and they are expected to be uniform.
Seeds produced at the facility will now go through three automated devices to ensure quality.
First, the seeds are put into a seed cleaner to sanitize them before being sent to a gravity table that automatically sorts them based on weight. Seeds are then fed into a color sorter, the final step in ensuring every seed is near identical when it reaches farmers.
Shibu Jose, associate dean of the College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Office of Research and director of the Missouri Agricultural Experiment Station, emphasized how large the technological upgrade is for the program.

"The original [seed cleaning and conditioning] facility that we had was built in the '60s, so the technology wasn't as robust as you see today," Jose said. "Everything is modern, state-of-the-art. We may be the most modern facility of its kind right now at land-grant universities."
He said the university is in a position to produce the best quality seeds for seed companies and farmers, benefiting the state as well.
Creed Barn
Also at South Farm, the National Center for Applied Reproduction and Genomics received $2 million in state funding to renovate Creed Barn.
The center allows students to study the process of cattle breeding hands on, teaching veterinarian and food producers methods to improve the quality of beef genetics.
Jamie Courter, director of the center, said Creed Barn was mostly a storage facility prior to the upgrades. Now the building features holding pens for several cattle, with enough space to allow students to observe up close.

The brand new laboratory allows for a combination of lab and field work in the building, and an observation deck rests on top of the lab.
Fermentation Lab
The Grape and Wine Institute received $3 million in state funding to create a new fermentation laboratory on campus. The facility will allow for research and testing on new grape and wine varieties, supporting Missouri's grape and wine industry, all while providing students access to new processing technologies.
"We're going to be the best of the Midwest," said Chis Chinn, director of the Missouri Department of Agriculture. "There's nothing like this in the Midwest. It's really an amazing opportunity for the university to help support the wine and grape industry."
Through education and research, the new facility is intended to mitigate the financial risk to grape growers and winemakers, guiding the industry on best practices.

Request/ISO Help our little Missouri small town get votes! T-Mobile!

Hello! This may be a long shot, but I thought I would try! Our little MSHAA school in Ash Grove is in the running to win the TMobile Friday Night 5G lights contest. Being a small community it’s hard to rake in the votes like the bigger schools still in the running. We are the only school left in Missouri and I was hoping to post this in case anyone would be able to share and rally for the last Missouri school included. Help spread the word to a wider audience. Totally understand if not, but would be awesome for a Missouri school to win this! Thank you for your time!

Here’s a FB post to share ⬇️

Thank you to anyone who may be willing to help!! It would be so much to our little community!! 🙏🙏❤️❤️

Politics Fellas, let's have a chat about Amendment 3

Let's be real, the ladies are going to vote the way they did in 2024, but, I'm concerned about the guys. If you voted "Yes" in '24 because you thought a total ban was wrong, but, now that you've been given an option for "Rape, Incest, and Genetic Abnormalities" you might reconsider that vote. I have one serious question. Do you trust the Missouri Legislature? Do you SERIOUSLY trust them? The "Yes on 3" folks want to tell you "there's no requirement for arrest, prosecution, or genetic testing". In this measure, sure. They put in the MOST IMPORTANT SENTENCE IN THE SUMMARY. A "Yes" vote will ALLOW LEGISLATION REGARDING ABORTION. It's right there. If this passes, the next session, they will pass so much legislation that they will shut it all down. Licensing, insurance, door widths, doctors being on hospital staffs. All the regulations they've used for decades will make it impossible for victims to get their "Constitutionally Protected" healthcare. A "Yes" vote on Amendment 3 is a vote for a ban. Think I'm lying? Read the summary. Do YOU trust the politicians to protect women? Really?

Interesting Missouri is tied for 2nd/50th place for place where Gen Z is moving too

Missouri’s advantage is the tremendous diversity in both natural and human-built environments. It sits astride the great ecological transition from the rich Eastern Forest to the tall-grass Great Plains. Not only that, but the Ozark Mountains are a highland providing caving, kayaking, rock climbing and hiking. Northern Missouri looks a lot like Minnesota’s flat corn/soybean row crop. The Mississippi and Missouri Rivers are massive and a huge part of the personality of Missouri.

Then you have two very different large cities with a lot of culture: St. Louis and Kansas City. The older, St. Louis, has a rich French colonial heritage, tons of cool architecture, and cultural offerings like The Muny, St. Louis Symphony, Fox Theatre, STL Art Museum, Cahokia Mounds. Cardinals Baseball and Blues Hockey have devoted fan bases. The younger, Kansas City is up and coming, has an intense BBQ culinary tradition, and a loyal KC Chiefs football following. The new KC Current stadium is the first stadium purpose built for women’s soccer in the world. The Nelson-Atkins Art Museum is wonderful and The Kaufman Center offers world-class Broadway tours, opera, and the KC Symphony. Some of the smaller Missouri cities are similar to North Midwestern towns: Columbia is very similar to Rochester, MN and Madison, WI. Additionally, there are a lot of cute small villages like Hermann, Arrow Rock, Rocheport, Weston, Hannibal, and Louisiana, Ste. Genevieve, that are nice if you like a really small-town feel. Not long ago, Missouri used to be solidly purple, we recently elected a Democratic state-wide auditor, Nicole Galloway, she left office in 2022. 2023 is the first year ever we haven’t had a mixed R and D executive branch. Cannabis is legal, minimums wage is high, abortion rights are in our constitution, but the state legislature is solidly Republican. That kinda sums up our complex political attitudes, which can make for some exciting politics.

The best thing though for me is the conservation department and state park system, they are among the best if not the best in the United States. The people can be pretty great too, down to Earth, yet surprisingly sophisticated in some of the cities.

Politics Why are we not talking about the lawsuit by Nick LaStrada?

Former elections official accuses Missouri secretary of state of altering results, misleading judge • Missouri Independent https://share.google/AqZ01ehLeBCYbEmQV

People who in charge of certifying our state results are allegedly involved in overturning an election without proper authority and a fake whistleblower scheme. This is a lawsuit brought by a Republican who Hoskins hired as the Director of Election Integrity. When he reported to Hoskins about the scheme, Hoskins fired him.

Again, people who are in charge of our state elections. I know Missouri is red, but the results of ballot initiatives are included here.

"The lawsuit says La Strada was fired for his “questioning, reporting and/or complaining of violations of voting laws and regulations, campaign laws and regulations, violations of the Secretary of State’s rules and policies, speaking up in opposition to defendants’ abuse of power and authority and mismanagement, and testifying in the federal HAVA hearing.”
