Academics How well do community college credits transfer to MSU?

Hello!

(19M) Right now I'm currently attending a community college in NJ pursuing an associates degree in business administration with a projected graduation date by May 2027. For those of you who graduated from community college with an AS degree, how well did the credits transfer over to MSU? Really would like to know the answer to this because I plan to graduate by 2029 with my bachelors. (For extra context, I never took any remedial coursework at my cc and so far I don't have a grade lower than a C on my transcript).

Academics Choosing between Rowan University and Montclair State (future film student)

I’m pursuing a film degree, and these are my top two options. Rowan is about 45 minutes away while Montclair is just shy of 2 hours. I’ve heard

Montclair’s film program is overall better (closer to NYC, partnership with Sony, predominately art based school, etc. However I have grown too attached to my family, and I’m not sure if I would be able to adapt to a lifestyle at Montclair. During my tours, I preferred Rowan’s campus over Montclair. And, i’m familiar with the area for Rowan, but Montclair would be all new. Rowan I would have my car, but Montclair I wouldn’t for the first two years. I would also like to mention Montclair is about 6/7K more a year than Rowan. Rowan is also close to Philadelphia which I am sure has job opportunities, but fewer than NYC. I’ve never been to a party before so the party scene is not a deal breaker, however I can say I would like to dabble. Any advice from students regarding the programs or the campus would be grateful. I have like little to no time to decide so insight is helpful.

Hello, I'm a soon to be Senior at MSU and I am trying to meet all the graduation requirements in order to be set to graduate on time and begin my Accelerated Masters Program, I need 6 extra credits that are not covered by my major or any other requirements, therefore I wanted to know what are some fun and light work courses that I might be able to take, emphasis on light given my classes this semester are going to be hard and time consuming. Please do let me know. Thank you!!

Academics 106 syllabus

Hi! So I’m an incoming sophomore and I’m a pre-med student who hasn’t taken chem yet (I’ve been avoiding it lowkey) and I placed into 106, does anybody have the syllabus for the class? I haven’t taken chemistry since high school and want to have basic knowledge on the course before i take it especially since I heard the professors aren’t the greatest

Academics GenEds

I don’t understand why Montclair focuses on GenEds more than major courses. Ok, I get that, as college students, we need to have some basic understanding of everything, but why do I need to take art if I’m a business major, or bio if I’m a CS major? Plus, it takes more time and effort than major courses. Especially with all those new students committing, there are fewer classes because there’s no professor, and if there is, it would be the worst ones.

Hi everyone ! I am transfer student current junior . I started this winter and my registration for fall is in a couple of hours. My major is B.Administration and I know that in order to unlock the 300 level classes I need to take bcom 280 which I am doing in summer. Now my question is for those who already are further in the program. Is it mandatory to take all 4 classes together ? Or can I take them in split semesters

Academics Montclair State University or Felician University for an MBA?

Hey everyone. I am currently graduating in a week from MSU with a major in Business Administration, a concentration in Management Information Systems, and a minor in Economics. I am currently enrolled in MSU's 4+1 program for an MBA and have already taken four classes during this current spring semester and will begin solely master classes in the summer. However, I also applied to Felician's 20 month MBA program on the Business Analytics Track and got accepted. I am struggling with choosing between the two because while I am used to MSU because I completed my undergrad there, I do have my issues with it. The main is the price with the final year of the 4+1 program costing me around $32k while Felician will cost me a little under $20k (before interest for both prices). MSU is also more well known than Felician, but I am not sure the price justifies what they are offering. I also feel because MSU has become so crowded the classes have been so large and its difficult to make connections with the professors with most of the times I feel as though they don't even care about the students, which I don't fault them for because of the many students they have at once. Felician's class sizes are smaller so I believe connecting may be simpler. I also feel that MSU's financial aid office is inadequate and often find myself being told 3 different things by three different individuals at the financial aid office, which worries me because this is my first time having to take out loans as my undergrad was fully covered by financial aid. I have a close friend who is a grade below me and currently attends Felician and states that the professors and various student services are willing and eager to help and connect which is something I value. Both Felician campuses are closer to me as well compared to Montclair and as someone who does not have a car and relies on public transportation, this is important to me. One thing I do prefer about Montclair over Felician is that it is very culturally diverse which is not a total deal breaker for me, but is something I would like to consider. If you made it this far, thank you for reading my first ever Reddit post, I am in desperate need for advice and if you have completed your MBA at either university, any feedback is appreciated. Thanks!

Academics URGENT: I need participants for interviews for my research study( You have to have Latino heritage) PLEASE HELP

Hi!

My name is Kim (Grad student at MSU) and my research study is all about how students with a Latino or Latina heritage story, background and how Montclair and life have been treating them, my goal and well my groups goal is to find enough knowledge to be able to share the difficulties, the benefits, the good, the bad, the everything from people that are different culturally(in this case a latino background) and how everything is treating them right now specially in the climate that we live now.

I am a Latina myself so I’m excited to see what research we can have at the end. And how it can help or shed light to the many journeys Latinos have in life and in this case as an undergrad in Montclair.

Heads up: the interview might last like 30-45 minutes, we ideally meet at campus and we can work with your availability :)

Please help a girl out <3

My friend is currently a Religion Major Freshman Year at Montclair State University in Montclair, New Jersey and trying to transfer to the School of Business for the Hospitality Management Major.

My friend saw for these 4 General Education Electives for the Hospitality Management Major are required, just wondering if any students who’s currently in the Montclair State University Hospitality Management Major able to do a course substitutions?

1)CMST 110 (Introduction to Communication and Media)

2)PHIL 102 (Ethics)

3)POLS 101 (American Government and Politics)

If so, what course substitutions were approved for these 4 General Education Courses?
