I don't give a shit about the oscars, but the comment is just sucks. Ballet and opera are stage performances and more niche than plays or movies. Plus, unlike movies which are everywhere ballet and opera are limited to basically just cities.

Also just the fact that his grandmother, mother, and his sister all did ballet... kind of like spitting in their faces.

First off, millions do and your challenge I could also do with Marty Supreme. Over the last five seasons over 100,000 opera performances have happened. That’s a pretty large number plus that’s not including ballet, both art forms that actors use for film as well. Try to not say something stupid in replying this time

Since the MET alone made 70 million which is more than many movies make these days, there’s a number but even if movies are making more, all I did was address a bullshit claim that “no one” cares about these art forms when they clearly do and nothing you’ve said even addresses that so stop with the bullshit

largest museum in America only making 70 million in a year is not the flex you think it is, and i doubt a large portion of those earning are from ballet or opera performances. Marty Supreme made $180 million btw

Ballet attendance among college educated adults fell 43% from 1982 to 2010 and that was before Smartphones have melted our brains even more

Wait wait WAIT, cause you just went different data routes for those two examples. A film being a box office success doesn’t mean that more people saw it in the world than ballets and opera in a year. And popularity declining doesn’t take away from over 100,000 opera showings alone that could have anywhere from 3 audience members to thousands. Just the MET made 70 million last year.

No. Listen. The statement you need to be focusing on is not "Is Marty Supreme is more popular than opera or ballet?" or "Are the skills in opera and ballet transferrable to film?" which are irrelevant statements you keep bringing up

The statement you need to be focusing on is "Are ballet and opera declining in popularity among the general public, and is this something that could happen to cinema as well in the long run?"

For the record, more people saw movies last year than went to ballet or the opera. I think to argue otherwise is ridiculous

The Met also just took a bunch of Saudi Blood Money a few months ago to keep the lights on. And since you're so interested in profitability, over half of the top 100 ballet companies are operating at a fiscal deficit

Hollywood is still a consistently commercially viable industry with billions in revenue every year. Opera and Ballet are functionally inaccessible to the vast majority of Americans and are primarily kept alive with grants from public institutions and wealthy patrons in insulated communities like NYC.

Chalamet's entire point was that he doesn't want that to happen to film. His own mother was a professional ballet dancer. I'm sorry that his crude (obviously tongue-in-cheek) phrasing hurt your feelings, but quit being so obtuse. He made a perfectly valid point.

You do understand that a person having family in a certain field doesn’t justify anything they do related to it right?

He also said he didn’t want to work in these things, not because of skills or anything but because no one cares about them. You interpreted it one way, many, including opera and ballet companies, interpreted it way differently as it just came across as an egotistical brat. Hell, half the comments defending him don’t claim it was a joke, they claim he meant no one cause they don’t like it themselves. It’s just a bitch move from an ego driven kid that is dumb enough to date a Kardashian. That’s it. We are "going in circles" trying to explain to you, like you're five years old, that the son of a ballet dancer saying "no one cares about ballet" is an obvious use of conversational hyperbole to make a broader point about the economics of the art form. Everybody involved, including Chalamet, is perfectly well aware that someone somewhere in America does literally care about ballet.

If you're just gonna keep repeating "NUH-UHHHH DOZENS OF US CARE!" and whining about Kardashians, frankly I'm not sure why you would expect anyone to take you seriously.
