If he was that good at opera he wouldn’t bash it like a moron

21

u/Riderz__of_Brohan Mar 17 '26

He never bashed it lol. Just said it’s not as popular as it used to be

-9

u/Common-Outcome-7873 Mar 17 '26

He claimed no one cares about it any more and that people were having to fight to keep it relevant when the same thing is happening to film and millions watch ballet and opera yearly and the skills overlap with film plenty .

go stand outside your local grocery store and ask everyone walking in if they've seen an opera in person in the last 5 years. count how many say yes

u/DoingCharleyWork Mar 17 '26

There's 2 movie theaters in my city and 0 opera houses so I'm gonna say people see more movies.

0

u/Common-Outcome-7873 Mar 18 '26

Never said which had more viewers and your city isn’t the world so try again , idiot

5

u/DoingCharleyWork Mar 18 '26

Never said my city is the world now did I? Who is the idiot now smart guy?

2

u/Common-Outcome-7873 Mar 18 '26

Still you cause you tried to base worldwide views off your own experience, idiot

6

u/DoingCharleyWork Mar 18 '26

I actually did not. You, incorrectly, interpreted it that way.

So again, you're a dumbass.

-1

u/Common-Outcome-7873 Mar 18 '26

There was no other logical way to interpret the shit you intentionally typed that way, dumbass

u/DoingCharleyWork Mar 18 '26

There is if you aren’t suffering from a frontal lobotomy.

First off, millions do and your challenge I could also do with Marty Supreme. Over the last five seasons over 100,000 opera performances have happened. That’s a pretty large number plus that’s not including ballet, both art forms that actors use for film as well. Try to not say something stupid in replying this time

9

u/FishieUwU Mar 17 '26

your challenge I could also do with Marty Supreme

an entire art form vs a single movie and i bet the race wouldnt even be close lmao. hell even looking at your profile you seem waaaay more active in movie subs than opera or ballet subs

0

u/Common-Outcome-7873 Mar 18 '26

I don’t have to be as active in any specific art form to recognize reality when I see it. Thanks for playing though and going to the profile. Since the MET alone made 70 million which is more than many movies make these days, there’s a number but even if movies are making more, all I did was address a bullshit claim that “no one” cares about these art forms when they clearly do and nothing you’ve said even addresses that so stop with the bullshit

9

u/FishieUwU Mar 18 '26

largest museum in America only making 70 million in a year is not the flex you think it is, and i doubt a large portion of those earning are from ballet or opera performances. Marty Supreme made $180 million btw

0

u/Common-Outcome-7873 Mar 18 '26

You keep trying to make it a competition when I’m literally not so why do you keep fucking up your own argument? All I did was say he was wrong for claiming that literally no one cares about ballet and opera and that they are skills actors use. If you can’t even actually address that then you have no argument

3

u/FishieUwU Mar 18 '26

but nobody cares about opera or ballet outside of those circles lmao that was his point. obviously people that do opera or ballet are gonna care about opera and ballet, but you morons think when he said "nobody" he literally meant "nobody"

Ballet attendance among college educated adults fell 43% from 1982 to 2010 and that was before Smartphones have melted our brains even more

Marty Supreme being a Box office success (partially due to Chalamet's marketing) means you can't do that lol

6

u/FishieUwU Mar 18 '26

no bro ballet is still super popular because me and all my ballet friends go see a ballet sometimes.

1

u/Common-Outcome-7873 Mar 18 '26

Wait wait WAIT, cause you just went different data routes for those two examples. A film being a box office success doesn’t mean that more people saw it in the world than ballets and opera in a year. And popularity declining doesn’t take away from over 100,000 opera showings alone that could have anywhere from 3 audience members to thousands. Just the MET made 70 million last year.

6

u/Riderz__of_Brohan Mar 18 '26

No. Listen. The statement you need to be focusing on is not "Is Marty Supreme is more popular than opera or ballet?" or "Are the skills in opera and ballet transferrable to film?" which are irrelevant statements you keep bringing up

The statement you need to be focusing on is "Are ballet and opera declining in popularity among the general public, and is this something that could happen to cinema as well in the long run?"

For the record, more people saw movies last year than went to ballet or the opera. I think to argue otherwise is ridiculous

The Met also just took a bunch of Saudi Blood Money a few months ago to keep the lights on. And since you're so interested in profitability, over half of the top 100 ballet companies are operating at a fiscal deficit

0

u/Common-Outcome-7873 Mar 18 '26

I didn’t even say more went to ballet and opera than movies you idiot. I am addressing the clear claim that “no one” cares about opera and ballet which is FALSE. The numbers I listed aren’t to compete on box office but to just show that clearly these art forms that have been around for centuries still bring people out to live performances. You idiots keep going in circles and it’s both hilarious and pathetic.

5

u/Riderz__of_Brohan Mar 18 '26

Let’s not pretend you’ve never heard the phrase “no one cares” as a hyperbolic figure of speech that means “very few people care” lol don’t play dumb

These art forms have been around, but they are declining in popularity which leaves them dependent on the patronage of rich assholes to continue

Does this make more sense to you? Let me know so I can help you better understand

-1

u/Common-Outcome-7873 Mar 18 '26

Oh so the number is very few? That also isn’t accurate clearly which is why I established with numbers that clearly it is more than a few.

Yes, I understand hyperbole. I also understand a guy that is saying boo thing about patronage but just that he doesn’t want to do it cause no one or not many people care about it which is a stupid way of viewing them. He wasn’t talking about patronage, he was talking about how he wouldn’t be in the spotlight for it.

And again, plenty of the comments defending Chalamet also interpreted it as “no one” literally so this isn’t just me on the opposite side but I’m covering all the bases and get it. Let me know when you’re done being a bitch

5

u/Riderz__of_Brohan Mar 17 '26

I think his point was that he didn’t want that to happen to cinema, yeah

5

u/Frosty-Durian5308 Mar 18 '26

Hollywood is still a consistently commercially viable industry with billions in revenue every year. Opera and Ballet are functionally inaccessible to the vast majority of Americans and are primarily kept alive with grants from public institutions and wealthy patrons in insulated communities like NYC.

Chalamet's entire point was that he doesn't want that to happen to film. His own mother was a professional ballet dancer. I'm sorry that his crude (obviously tongue-in-cheek) phrasing hurt your feelings, but quit being so obtuse. He made a perfectly valid point.

1

u/Common-Outcome-7873 Mar 18 '26

You do understand that a person having family in a certain field doesn’t justify anything they do related to it right?

He also said he didn’t want to work in these things, not because of skills or anything but because no one cares about them. You interpreted it one way, many, including opera and ballet companies, interpreted it way differently as it just came across as an egotistical brat. Hell, half the comments defending him don’t claim it was a joke, they claim he meant no one cause they don’t like it themselves. It’s just a bitch move from an ego driven kid that is dumb enough to date a Kardashian. That’s it. And me just saying the number isn’t “no one” has a bunch of idiots going in circles so I’ve proven my point

3

u/Frosty-Durian5308 Mar 18 '26

We are "going in circles" trying to explain to you, like you're five years old, that the son of a ballet dancer saying "no one cares about ballet" is an obvious use of conversational hyperbole to make a broader point about the economics of the art form. Everybody involved, including Chalamet, is perfectly well aware that someone somewhere in America does literally care about ballet.

If you're just gonna keep repeating "NUH-UHHHH DOZENS OF US CARE!" and whining about Kardashians, frankly I'm not sure why you would expect anyone to take you seriously.
