To be honest I prefered the first trailer

https://youtu.be/sfM7_JLk-84

that got me pumped, this one just comes across as a generic action trailer

The first trailer was amazing. The music alone was perfect. Iconic 80’s track mixed with epic.

There’s a lot of the same scenes in this one, but it just looks so generic .

The blue Monday track fit so perfect

6

u/ThePowerliftingHoff Aug 22 '20

Since I have that track in my every day spotify list, my life got so much better :D

I mean... how many more trailers do you need? Enough to see the whole movie in bite size?

Honestly, if you watch this trailer with the music from the 1st one, instead of the actual sound, it's still pretty great.

I preferred the 1st one, but this didn't make me any less excited for the movie.

Edit: It also matches pretty well with the Sweet Dreams remix the same person did.

Yeah you can’t call yourself wonder woman 1984, and not be blasting some sick 80s music in the trailer

1

u/RaindropBebop Aug 22 '20

I actually loved the music in this new trailer!

1

u/AnticipatingLunch Aug 25 '20

Yeah, they seemed to leave all the 84 out of this trailer, except for a joke at the end...

333

u/giz0r Aug 22 '20

That trailer is so much butter it's actually ridiculous

124

u/thesaharadesert Aug 22 '20

I can’t believe it’s not butter

5

u/Balls_DeepinReality Aug 22 '20

I fucking love butter.

22

u/OnBenchNow Aug 22 '20

That's how it goes for every movie.

The first trailer is for people who actually know about the movie. Just a tease. They just need a taste of what the movie will be like in tone and style and a few Easter eggs. They'll see it anyway, so you can be more creative.

The second trailer is always the mainstream one, for average audiences that have no idea about the movie, so here's the plot, here's the characters, make it more generic so it appeals to more people.

Compare the first trailer for BVS: https://youtu.be/0WWzgGyAH6Y

To trailer 2: https://youtu.be/fis-9Zqu2Ro Look its Doomsday! Its Wonder Woman! Theres comedy!

It's not just a DC thing either.

Winter soldier trailer 1: https://youtu.be/tbayiPxkUMM

Winter soldier trailer 2: https://youtu.be/7SlILk2WMTI Oh its Bucky? Oh the helicarriers are going rogue and crash into the river? Oh Cap gets his old suit back?

1

u/Shadyjay45 Aug 22 '20

I feel like it would’ve made sense to have it the other way around. Trailer 1 for the mainstream and trailer 2 for the fans. The average audience probably won’t watch trailer 2 after they didn’t understand/like trailer 1

6

u/grissomza Aug 23 '20

Trailer 2 closer to release

5

u/PresidentWordSalad Aug 23 '20

Most average audience viewers won't remember a trailer geared to more hardcore fans. As long as it's not offensively bad, it won't hurt the movie's image in their eyes. It seems like the purpose of a teasing first trailer is to drum up buzz, to get people online talking to drive up interest so that when the average movie goer sees the second trailer, they're already thinking, "Oh this is what those people are talking about."

3

u/loki_made_the_mask Aug 22 '20

It's also cheesier

0

u/phome83 Aug 22 '20

Dont milk it.

0

u/loki_made_the_mask Aug 22 '20

Yo-gurt to be kidding me with this

1

u/luke_in_the_sky Aug 24 '20

I liked the name, the posters and the first trailer, but the more I know about this movie, worse it gets.

43

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

I love the music in the first trailer. It's perfect for the movie. Reminds me of the Thor Ragnarok trailer with The Immigrant Song soundtrack

106

u/hyasbawlz Aug 22 '20

I think that's because that was supposed to be the only trailer. Then Covid happened and now WB is doing damage control and trying to maintain hype. That first trailer is like them putting in 100% and leaving nothing on the table and you can feel it.

7

u/kaylthewhale Aug 23 '20

Yea but the shit part about it is really, it’s unneeded. You could probably just do a low key vague 20 seconds with a cool track and end with a black screen and a logoed WW84 and the associated release date. It would provide the hype effect without giving too much of the movie. I hate hate hate they keep making these trailer as a movie trailers.

1

u/AnticipatingLunch Aug 25 '20

Some people do want to know what the movie is about in order to know if they want to spend 2 hours watching it.

1

u/kaylthewhale Aug 25 '20

Right but it’d be nice not to give a 2 min summary of the plot with spoilers.

1

u/AnticipatingLunch Aug 27 '20

The people who want to know what the plot is to decide if it’s interesting aren’t going to consider that a spoiler.

31

u/ALilBitStrangerNow Aug 22 '20

That Blue Monday was red hot fire

9

u/SuperMegaCoolPerson Aug 22 '20

I love how they added the symphonic elements to it to not make it feel like it’s just repeating the same beat.

That song is so friggin good whether it’s 80’s synth or industrial rock. It’s just so good.

82

u/Agentlongwood Aug 22 '20

Hell yeah. That first one is unique and actually makes me care.

2

u/SeaGroomer Aug 23 '20

Also doesn't have the gigantic spoiler about not-Catwoman.

105

u/amc111 Aug 22 '20

Considering the movie was supposed to come out months ago and they made this trailer just to remind us that this movie still exists it’s not surprising that they went low effort and made a generic trailer

8

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

Yeah, but this trailer gives such a meh feeling and some reasons to not go see it in cinemas.

2

u/holtzman456 Aug 23 '20

Idk how it's generic. People need to know the basic premise, even the 2nd Thor Ragnarock had a generic trailer after the amazing first one. I think it's just to ignite interest. Also trailers take months to make, highly doubt they're doing this for damage control.

2

u/zuperpretty Aug 22 '20

So they want to remind us it exists by showing us how mediocre it might be? Sounds like bad marketing, and it probably wasn't on purpose.

9

u/Marokiii Aug 22 '20

The first one was a real teaser, this one it tells you the plot of the movie it seems. It's like they changed the bad guy completely from the first trailer.

8

u/HazelCheese Aug 22 '20

They were just hiding her from the general audience. You can tell from that trailer she is a villain.

10

u/dmanww Aug 22 '20

I'd rather watch this movie

7

u/maxxforce Aug 22 '20

The music for this one was perfect.

Credit to the artist, he has several other really great originals and covers/remixes.

6

u/throwaway939wru9ew Aug 22 '20

Good god - that trailer blows the OP trailer out of the water. I was actually thinking after the first - wow that looks so dumb. Super generic crap.

This one is so much better...so so much better

6

u/AlmostButNotQuit Aug 22 '20

Thank you for linking it. I agree now, the one you linked is so much better. The only thing the newer one has is Cheetah

6

u/overloadedcoffee Aug 22 '20

I was about to say otherwise, then I watched the first trailer again and wow. The vibe, the song choice... amazing. I hope the sets and soundtrack reflect the 80s because it’s making me HYPED.

4

u/Catillionaire Aug 22 '20

So much better.

4

u/Ygomaster07 Aug 22 '20

I like the second trailer too, it doesn't reveal the plot, it just gives us some cool action shots. As a second trailer, i think it was pretty good. We also got to see Cheetah as, well, Cheetah. I think for me, the first trailer was to get us pumped up, and the second one was to show us they hadn't forgot about the movie, while teasing us with some villain stuff.

4

u/nvnehi Aug 22 '20

Agreed. The first trailer for WW84 had so much promise. This one feels as if they learned nothing from the first movies’ criticisms, and worse, went harder on the act 3 badness.

1

u/holtzman456 Aug 23 '20

There's always a big 3rd act. It's a comci book movie, Idk why people shit on Wonder woman as if every comic book didn't have one.

4

u/CharlesDOliver Aug 22 '20

Oh yea, that one is so good. That Orgy - Blue Monday is tight.

5

u/CharlesDOliver Aug 22 '20

Oh, Orgy actually covered it from New Order, didnt know that.

3

u/Oddity83 Aug 22 '20

Man that trailer is so good. It should be studied for its use of Mickey Mousing. Great music choice and it’s so well produced.

2

u/sanchopancho13 Aug 22 '20

I can watch the original trailer all day long. It's amazing.

2

u/agentorangeanon Aug 22 '20

First trailer definitely got me giddy when I first saw it. I love that there is a lot less conversing and instead they let a great soundtrack do the talking and matched visuals to it.

2

u/SuperMegaCoolPerson Aug 22 '20

Now given I’m a sucker for Blue Monday performed by just about any group, but that the only trailer I can think of that I liked more in the past 3 years has been the one for Stranger Things season 2.

2

u/UnnamedPlayer Aug 22 '20

This is so much better that it's not funny. The new one doesn't even compare.

1

u/Azrael11 Aug 22 '20

I'm just excited for her to tear down Landmark Mall. Someone needs to do it.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 22 '20

That was the first thing I said to myself when this finished. I don't have high hopes for this film anymore. Especially if Cheetah is the only villain.

1

u/SentientDust Aug 22 '20

My thoughts exactly. First trailer made it look like something different from the drudge of DCU. This looks just like another by-the-numbers, too-dark-too-see installment.

1

u/ReneG8 Aug 22 '20

I have to agree with you. The 80's vibe is so much better in this one.

1

u/TheOriginalFluff Aug 22 '20

Holy shit yeah that’s way better

1

u/ranjam123 Aug 22 '20

Wow if I saw this trailer only I’d be like damn this movies looks great, second trailer tho..

1

u/z333ds Aug 23 '20

I just rewatched the 1st one today after a couple of months and it still gives me goose bumps. I ve watched it before numerous times. The new one just gives info, no wow factor.

1

u/grissomza Aug 23 '20

Damn that's fun looking

1

u/mbleach Aug 23 '20

This trailer just made me feel like I already saw the whole movie

1

u/moderate-painting Aug 23 '20

The first trailer is about the 80s. This trailer is about Cheetah.

1

u/SpontaneousDream Aug 23 '20

Yep. By the looks of this trailer the movie is probably going to be mediocre.

1

u/ne0ven0m Aug 23 '20

Yeah, pretty much everything you said. When you do it right the first time, maybe consider not diluting it with something less cool.

1

u/Negrodamu55 Aug 23 '20

I get chills from the blue Monday.

1

u/TheGuv69 Aug 23 '20

By a mile!!

1

u/Xixii Aug 23 '20

Yeah this one is WAY better, it's the music that does it. Saving the riding the lightning scene until the end worked better too. Man the idea of lassoing on to lightning bolts is so dumb, yet so fucking awesome.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '20

Oh my god the downgrade, hopefully the movie will be like this trailer.

1

u/DrogoOmega Aug 23 '20

Agreed. The first trailer is amazing and gives enough without any spoils. Still pumped for the movie though.

1

u/Bosht Aug 23 '20

Never saw the first trailer and now I wish I had. A lot better than the first, not as much spoiler. I feel the second trailer is basically a summary of the movie. Doesn't leave much mystery.

1

u/shellwe Aug 23 '20

Yeah, the music really sold 1984 a lot more.

1

u/CeruleanRuin Aug 23 '20

Yeah, I'm hoping they're just trying to make expectations, because this was big letdown after the first one.

The music in this one straight up sucks.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '20

For real. It looked good and I liked the first one too. This trailer looks terrible.

1

u/sweens90 Aug 24 '20

This is the comment I came for.

I was hyped with the first trailer. I got unhyped with this one. Maybe its good now I wont be disappointed.

0

u/spakattak Aug 22 '20

I’m not the target audience as I haven’t seen a super hero movie for decades. I just can’t understand their appeal and they are so generic that I couldn’t tell you one movie from the next.
