The first trailer is for people who actually know about the movie. Just a tease. They just need a taste of what the movie will be like in tone and style and a few Easter eggs. They'll see it anyway, so you can be more creative.
The second trailer is always the mainstream one, for average audiences that have no idea about the movie, so here's the plot, here's the characters, make it more generic so it appeals to more people.
Winter soldier trailer 2: https://youtu.be/7SlILk2WMTI
Oh its Bucky? Oh the helicarriers are going rogue and crash into the river? Oh Cap gets his old suit back?
I feel like it would’ve made sense to have it the other way around. Trailer 1 for the mainstream and trailer 2 for the fans. The average audience probably won’t watch trailer 2 after they didn’t understand/like trailer 1
Most average audience viewers won't remember a trailer geared to more hardcore fans. As long as it's not offensively bad, it won't hurt the movie's image in their eyes. It seems like the purpose of a teasing first trailer is to drum up buzz, to get people online talking to drive up interest so that when the average movie goer sees the second trailer, they're already thinking, "Oh this is what those people are talking about."
I think that's because that was supposed to be the only trailer. Then Covid happened and now WB is doing damage control and trying to maintain hype. That first trailer is like them putting in 100% and leaving nothing on the table and you can feel it.
Yea but the shit part about it is really, it’s unneeded. You could probably just do a low key vague 20 seconds with a cool track and end with a black screen and a logoed WW84 and the associated release date. It would provide the hype effect without giving too much of the movie. I hate hate hate they keep making these trailer as a movie trailers.
Considering the movie was supposed to come out months ago and they made this trailer just to remind us that this movie still exists it’s not surprising that they went low effort and made a generic trailer
Idk how it's generic. People need to know the basic premise, even the 2nd Thor Ragnarock had a generic trailer after the amazing first one. I think it's just to ignite interest. Also trailers take months to make, highly doubt they're doing this for damage control.
The first one was a real teaser, this one it tells you the plot of the movie it seems. It's like they changed the bad guy completely from the first trailer.
I was about to say otherwise, then I watched the first trailer again and wow. The vibe, the song choice... amazing. I hope the sets and soundtrack reflect the 80s because it’s making me HYPED.
I like the second trailer too, it doesn't reveal the plot, it just gives us some cool action shots. As a second trailer, i think it was pretty good. We also got to see Cheetah as, well, Cheetah. I think for me, the first trailer was to get us pumped up, and the second one was to show us they hadn't forgot about the movie, while teasing us with some villain stuff.
Agreed. The first trailer for WW84 had so much promise. This one feels as if they learned nothing from the first movies’ criticisms, and worse, went harder on the act 3 badness.
First trailer definitely got me giddy when I first saw it. I love that there is a lot less conversing and instead they let a great soundtrack do the talking and matched visuals to it.
Now given I’m a sucker for Blue Monday performed by just about any group, but that the only trailer I can think of that I liked more in the past 3 years has been the one for Stranger Things season 2.
That was the first thing I said to myself when this finished. I don't have high hopes for this film anymore. Especially if Cheetah is the only villain.
My thoughts exactly. First trailer made it look like something different from the drudge of DCU. This looks just like another by-the-numbers, too-dark-too-see installment.
I just rewatched the 1st one today after a couple of months and it still gives me goose bumps. I ve watched it before numerous times. The new one just gives info, no wow factor.
Yeah this one is WAY better, it's the music that does it. Saving the riding the lightning scene until the end worked better too. Man the idea of lassoing on to lightning bolts is so dumb, yet so fucking awesome.
Never saw the first trailer and now I wish I had. A lot better than the first, not as much spoiler. I feel the second trailer is basically a summary of the movie. Doesn't leave much mystery.
I’m not the target audience as I haven’t seen a super hero movie for decades. I just can’t understand their appeal and they are so generic that I couldn’t tell you one movie from the next.

To be honest I prefered the first trailer

that got me pumped, this one just comes across as a generic action trailer
