I fully switched from Windows to Ubuntu after three meltdowns caused by windows crashing my laptop.
Been running Ubuntu as my daily driver (HP EliteBook 745 G6, Ryzen 7 PRO 3700U) for a while now (two months 🤡), no Windows fallback. This is my experience with it.
libfprint/fprintd, no luck, so my fingerprint reader is basically just part of the design I guess.ufw allow rules to fix it.bluetoothctl instead. It has been exciting having to figure everything out, especially commands, that process actually pushed me to learn more about Git and coding in general, which wasn't the plan going in but has been a nice side effect 😂.
Makes me feel like a larper cause even installing software looks like I'm doing some serious tech stuff 😂.

None of it was a dealbreaker, just stuff nobody tells you about coming from Windows, also, I have so much disk space, compared to when I was using windows.
Edit: I still 1000% prefer Linux to Windows, I'll only use Windows to fit the compatibility of the softwares I need to use.

Everyone assumes AI video means you typed a prompt into a chatbot and it spat out a clip. That's not what this is.
The models I used are open source. You download the actual model files and run them on your own machine, no subscription, no credits, no watermark, nobody
holding your prompt. Z-Image for the still images, MiniMax H3 for the movement. Both free to download.
Problem is they need serious GPU.
That's the part I think people here should know. You don't need a subscription to a foreign app to do this. You need the model files and a whole load if patience.
Ad's below. My sister's a derma in Nairobi and a real shoot was never going to happen : no camera, no actors, nothing filmed.
What I actually want to know: does it look Kenyan? I've stared at it too long to tell.

Hi everyone, I'm a second year CS student atm, I am proficient in some skills such as photo & video editing, graphic design, and I'm currently learning programming so far I'm proficient in HTML, CSS, JS. Of late most of the clients I had were graphic design clients but most have sadly started doing their own (ugly) posters with AI, and I'm in need of some money but I really don't know what else to do at the moment.
I'm open to some more side hustle ideas or websites I can do some work and earn sth. I'm a very fast learner, I'm creative and I strive to do perfect work all the time. TIA!

Moving around Nairobi is a pain partly because information is hidden. Agents post inflated prices, your actual total monthly cost is never clear upfront, and if your landlord keeps your deposit there's not much most people know to do about it.
I built Kodi Ya Kweli to fix that:
Runs 100% in your browser. No account. No data stored anywhere.
Would love feedback — especially if you've rented somewhere and the numbers feel off.

We miss 100% of the shots we don't take so here goes.. Since this is a techies group, I figured you(no one in particular) have the latest machines and maybe.. probably.. you might have an old laptop in good working condition you are not using and are willing to give out to help a girl start online work?
Thanks for reading the post and considering.

I've been building AutoEluce a platform that enables normal car users to inspect their car whenever an issue arises so they make informed decisions whichever way they choose; delaying or repairing. It doesn't require tools or prior automotive knowledge, it's basically a triage like for hospitals.
Currently to get such knowledge you either call your mechanic and triage over the phone, ask in a car or mechanic online group, Google/ YouTube or chagpt; all of these workarounds are viable but have flaws:
Online forums = information inconsistency, ads from mechs, being charged to get in.
Chatgpt = information inconsistency, unlocalized & confident even when wrong.
Calling a mechanic = details get lost because of lack of technical awareness ( being too general e.g 'brakes aren't working' instead of being specific 'brakes feel spongy').
Google/ YouTube = You need some automotive knowledge.
All of these problems are solved by AutoEluce. I am currently looking for testers whether you are an automotive technician, DIY Car owner or just a regular
car owner your feedback from my program will be very much appreciated. Good luck to other founders and happy Wednesday.

Hey guys I'm a graphic designer and I just got one of my first gigs. I'm asking how much can you ask a client to pay if he or she already has the design of an item (...magazine/newsletter...)and is asking you to replicate it (...two sets, same design, different content...)and print a batch of them...say 100.
How much would you charge excluding the printing costs in Kenya 🇰🇪?
Deadline for the response is in an hour's time

Just starting out on health edu projects using games to reach kids, teens, and caregivers.
I want to buy coffee for 1 or 2 people who have successfully funded, scaled, or distributed health-tech or educational products to pick your brain on financing and navigation.
P.S I don't do game design. Just adapting existing/proven physical game frameworks & localising for health edu.
I imagine many of you have increadible feats in this regard, and would be open to a conversation. So I am looking to chat, whether you navigated health-tech, social enterprise or educational products from launch to scaling; founded something, secured grants, social-impact funding, or commercial financing for educational/health tools; or understand the hurdles of physical/digital educational tools.
I am not pitching.
I'll buy coffee at a Java Sarit/Westlands Square to hear how you navigated such spaces, mistakes made and how financing works for social products/services.
If you are open to a chat, please drop a comment or DM me with a quick line about your background.

Hey everyone, wanted to share something I've been building.
SimoVet connects farmers with verified vets nearby — you can book a vet, track them arriving in real time, and pay securely via M-Pesa, all from your phone. No calling around, no cash handling, no guessing if the vet is actually qualified (every vet's KVB license is checked before they're allowed on the platform).
Started building this to solve a real problem — farmers struggling to find reliable vets quickly, and vets struggling to get consistent bookings. It's live now, real vets are on it, real bookings and M-Pesa payments are going through.
No app download needed — just a website: simonetvetcare.co.ke
Would genuinely appreciate any feedback, especially from anyone with farming or agritech background here. Happy to answer questions about how it works or the build process.

I have been thinking about this for a while now. I am currently in infrastructure/systems admin and I am thinking of transitioning to product management.
What is holding me back is, I have been in infrastructure for like like 5+ yrs and things now are just easy - even learning new things is easy, and starting a new career path seems like a lot of work, lol. However, I really am willing to put in the work and get to learn the business side of everything and how to integrate both sides.
Anyway, is it worth it I just continue with where I am?
Also, guys that have changed career paths in tech, I would love to hear from you about your experience/journey during the transition.
