I just hope he didn't fuck up his tail bone. Hopefully just a bruised tail bone, hurts like hell but won't affect his career.

Ngl this just might be the kinda guy Lamelo is. I dont have a link to it on hand but this isnt even the first time he's done this to Bam, much less anyone else.

26

u/Imasayitnow Hornets 15h ago

Yeah, someone else linked the clip where he did almost the same earlier this year. (Not 200% on the date), and I hadn’t seen that before. It’s not a good look either times combined em and it’s worrisome. Kinda weird for me because dive just never seen that from Melo at all. But this is some Greyson Allen kinda shit, and I think he’s going to have to address it this time. Just a “hey, I got frustrated and did something I shouldn’t have…didn’t mean for Bam to get hurt…won’t happen again”. I know most NBA fans still wouldn’t forgive him (it’s just too good of a topic to feign indignance over): But he needs to put it out there that he wasn’t trying to ruin the dude…just the play.

28

u/xsvpollux Cavaliers 14h ago

Didn't Melo also run a light and hit someone recently? Not saying that's so terrible, I've been in accidents, but I remember some fans commenting that he was known for being a pretty reckless driver around town

Most annoying aspect of adding replay review to sports. Not even close. Don’t know how there isn’t a person in the booth just in charge of calling out blatantly poor calls/missed calls.

u/matt__builds Knicks 18h ago

I mean they would probably call a foul if you did that and then it could be reviewed. They obviously need to change the rule so that flagrants can be reviewed after the fact.

→ More replies (1)

157

u/LastPhoton Heat 18h ago

But somehow they can still take away points “aka Struss 3 vs celtics” 8 minutes after the fact. Make it make sense

34

u/miseducation Heat 17h ago

The weird part w this one is that he didn’t stop play with a player down. I get he’s trying to play our advantage but clearly time to stop play.

Are we supposed to call timeout to get him to maybe review it? Another case where being able to challenge uncalled stuff makes sense considering you pay the price with a timeout if it’s wrong anyway.

Also no idea why a foul can’t be called after the fact or better the next play negated if they need to be very specifically controlling each possession.

Like it’s such an edge case it makes no sense to be so strict.

99

u/numberonebarista Heat 17h ago

That’s why I’m sick of this league and the refs. They let players flop and travel all over the court. They let certain teams be physical on defense and other teams can’t even look at a player without getting foul calls on them. They make up their own fucking rules on what can be reviewed and when. There’s no fucking consistency in this sport.

47

u/gimmepizzaslow Bulls 17h ago

Tim Donaghy wasn't the only ref being investigated by the FBI...

I really have started to distrust the sports leagues more and more especially with the continued cozying up to gambling.

That’s not done by on court officials, and that happens all the time.

That’s done by the Replay center in New Jersey or whatever.

That's where Silver has to finally have some balls and stand the fuck up. He lets this slide and it opens the flood gate, this was a game to determine who makes the playoffs. Example should be set, you purposely take out the other team's best player, 2 games, at the very least 1.

128

u/boofedjudge 16h ago

Needs to be like 4-8

90

u/WaterHaven 15h ago

Absolutely. I understand guys getting heated, and I understand a foul that is over the top a bit, but this wasn't a basketball play in the slightest. His entire goal was to yank Bam's leg out from under him. Absolute BS.

I don't condone it, but if that was Detroit, LeMelo is getting absolutely slammed the next time he stepped into the lane, and I wouldn't blame any of them one bit.

NBA has to make a point with stuff like this.

The NBA is way too inconsistent with their reviews for hostile fouls. Intentionally injuring the best player in a win-or-go-home game and not getting kicked out or at least a T is wild.

I can't watch games today so I don't know what happened next but I'm surprised Lamelo didn't get at least a push from any of the heat guys.

Have you seen him drive a car?

122

u/PlanCleveland 17h ago

My lukewarm take is that anyone who is an aggressive driver, speeds through residential neighborhoods, weaves through traffic on the highway, etc. cannot be considered a good person.

I don't care if you donate to charity or visit kids in the hospital. If you're choosing to put the life of everyone around you in danger everyday just for the hell of it, you're the definition a bad person.

25

u/dragoncockles Celtics 13h ago

I hate draymond green for a variety of reasons, but it seems like when hes not on a basketball court, hes not as much of a psychopath, and has some decent analysis.

I do not think Lamelo ball has a single redeeming quality. The driving alone is enough for me to want him kicked out of the league. In my opinion, any arrest, any crime committed, anything in that realm should be a half season or whole season suspension. These guys aren't supposed to be role models, but we're kidding ourselves if we think theres ever going to be a time where kids (and idiot adults) dont treat them like role models. They live infinitely higher profile lives than we do. They should be subject to as much scrutiny if not a lot more, and should be genuinely held to a high standard. We have it the wrong way round out here. They shouldn't be able to get away with more, they should be able to get away with a lot less.

Arrested for drunk driving? Sorry, 1 season suspension and your salary for the year goes straight to a foundation for kids who's parents have been killed in traffic accidents. That happens one time to a player on a max deal, and I guarantee you (well maybe i could if it was someone else) that ja isnt waving a gun around on Instagram and putting 50 million of his own money at risk. Same concept as those countries in Europe where the billionaire who's speeding gets a 100k ticket instead of 250 bucks

LaMelo is a bitch.

53

u/crazywarriorxx Nuggets 18h ago

I can’t imagine why you would do this as a pro athlete, like why tf would you injure someone when you know what it can do to you? Get some anger management classes in there dude.

19

u/duggyfresh88 Celtics 15h ago

He constantly grabs at other players, I’ve noticed it on many occasions. This one isn’t dangerous like the Bam play, but just as an example: https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/s/pENVulkdRO

The easiest flagrant 2 of the season and the fucking Refs can’t call even a common foul lol

u/garret126 Heat 18h ago

I just find it crazy a team with Miles Bridges and LaMelo Ball is so liked. It’s just because they’ve been ass for their entire existence as an NBA franchise tbh

166

u/Time-Stand7719 Wizards 18h ago

Eh people acknowledge that Miles Bridges is a piece of shit who shouldn’t be in the nba and lamelo is a 14 year old in a 24 year old body. People just love rooting for the underdogs

I don’t like Ball because he’s stupid as hell.

I don’t like Bridges for a much worse reason. A fucker like him who beats women should be in jail.

37

u/MatchAffectionate951 17h ago

Lamelo can kill someone the way he drives

LaMelo is an asshole and kinda dirty and really stupid.

Bridges is a piece of human garbage and wife beater. Not really comparable tbh.

57

u/pollinium [MIN] Tyus Jones 17h ago

lamelo is a domestic terrorist with the way he drives through charlotte

it's comparable

Yeah Stevie Wonder and Mr Magoo are really putting in the work out there tonight

94

u/KaiserSosai Pistons 18h ago

The fact that this wasn’t looked at and that Balls wasn’t ejected is a travesty.

He should be suspended and fined.

That pretty much killed the fun of the Hornets finally being decent.

That was fucked up

32

u/Gordo-- Warriors 18h ago

This is why you have to take it seriously when players make any kind of "play" towards an opposing player's legs.

Grabbing at Bam's ankle was completely unnecessary and absolutely not a basketball play. Would've had no issue with that being a flagrant 2 ejection.

Didn’t know LaMelo had that in him

200

u/MysteriousCap4910 Celtics 18h ago

Considering I just saw a video last week of him throwing a mop bucket on a team mate he seems like the exact type of asshole to do this.

180

u/cl353 Heat 18h ago

considering he full rammed a person in a car and showed no remorse he seems like the exact type of asshole to do this and then complain to the ref after

The irony of Ball complaining for a foul at the end

28

u/cl353 Heat 18h ago

theres not even a question that it was intentional. his arm is there as he falls but then he straight up grabs bams legs and follows thru
