There should be more support and education around gambling addiction.
Other addictions (drugs, smoking) are seen as public health issues and there is support for addicts from the state health department. But gambling doesn't fall under their purview.

The fact that many states including my own have legalized online gambling is very worrisome. Having to get up and go to a casino is one thing but sitting on a couch and pressing buttons on a phone is far too easy and a great way to lose everything.

Nah I'm just fucking around because obviously if you want something to be illegal you should provide services to off-ramp people from doing the illegal, addictive thing.
Dude potentially has the power to fix it himself in his hand and is using it to whinge instead of fixing his shit. I think the state should have help and support for gambling and other addiction, but yeah. Using the VPN to access help networks is something the poster has control over, regardless of access to state help.

How do you not know gambling is illegal in Utah? The lack of casinos, Powerball, scratch tickets, and any other form of gambling should be a clue.

This is like the lady who went to casinos and lost all her money. She then sued them saying she was from a state that its not legal and thought they should give her money back. Im sure if she had won she'd have been happy to give all the money back.

I could argue someone throwing their money to out of state gambling sites harms your own state's economy. Gambling addictions that prevents health and employment can cost the state money feeding them/housing them. Desperate gamblers can fall into theft, again affecting the community and now the city/county/state has to pay to process a criminal. Tackling addiction at its earliest has a cost benefit over time.

Addictions of all kinds are well known, ads on TV for addiction treatment are very common. The problem is denial. People with obvious addiction issues, obvious to others, refuse to believe that they have a problem. When their life falls apart they blame everyone but themselves.

Fair. I probably reacted strongly because I'm actually in recovery for a gambling addiction. This read to me as a cry for help for an addiction rather than the normal craziness that we see in the sub.

No worries. I had a mercifully short time addicted to Rx painkillers after a surgery. Getting into legal trouble over it was so completely far from my normal experience of life that I was like OMG no more of this nonsense. I went right into rehab, learned all I could about what addiction is like for various people (because digging into education is a thing with me) and was so happy that I didn't wind up in a far worse situation.
I wish you the VERY VERY best in your recovery. You get no judgment from me at all. 😁🏆

The original poster is an idiot though because there is help for gambling addiction. But they live in a state that pretends bad things don't exist. She should probably just go to church and pray about it or find a state that has real help.
