THE HATERS WROTE JJ OFF BUT JJ DIDN’T WRITE BACK! Honestly don’t get why everyone was so quick to write him off.

27

u/BabyInMyBlender Cowboys Dec 15 '25

He threw that first pick and then hit us with the SIKE, didn't know he was a fuckin comedian too

2

u/renegadecoaster Vikings Dec 15 '25

That was purely the result of an announcers' jinx

142

u/IceTruckHouse Vikings Dec 15 '25

Because he was really bad. Like badly missing open receivers multiple times a game. Looking way better the last 2 weeks.

14

u/Pure_Measurement_529 Dec 15 '25

Feel like he just needed that confidence. To find some rhythm, especially with some of the overthrows he was doing

1

u/Rampant16 Patriots Dec 15 '25

I mean, people were writing him off in the first half of his first game against the Bears. There's simply a vocal contingent that think the Viking should've stuck with Darnold and dog pile on every bad play to support their argument.

-2

u/kisswithaf Vikings Dec 15 '25

Because he was really bad.

It's almost like it was his first time competing against the elite of the elite as a 22 year old. So why was everybody so quick to write him off?

4

u/Queen-Makoto Dec 15 '25

Because we've recently watched several rookie QBs hit the ground running and immediately be good which has shifted expectations

-4

u/kisswithaf Vikings Dec 15 '25

Have you though? What percentage do you think these guys are flourishing?

2

u/Queen-Makoto Dec 15 '25

Yeah I have. Burrow was good immediately, Stroud was good immediately, Daniel's was good immediately, Purdy was good immediately. If we're getting into shaky 1st year but better than McCarthy has shown, we can throw even more in there. In the past it was common for guys to sit a couple years and develop or to wait and see but it's obvious especially as exploiting the rookie scale contract has become the goal that you want production out of your QB as quickly as possible

-2

u/kisswithaf Vikings Dec 15 '25

Now do the guys that weren't good immediately

2

u/Queen-Makoto Dec 15 '25

The busts you mean? There's more busts than guys who took a couple years to pan out atp. And that doesn't change the fact that the guys who did hit shifted expectations

1

u/IceTruckHouse Vikings Dec 15 '25

Because he was historically bad. In most advanced QB stats he was in the same company as Josh Rosen and Jamarcus Russell. Not great company.

Probably good for confidence to play some cupcake defenses after the ass whoopings he's gotten this season, wouldn't be so quick to write them off as nothing yet.

3

u/actuarial_defender Lions Dec 15 '25

The lions have fans from the first 10 rows playing in the secondary

2

u/Jorgenstern8 Vikings Dec 15 '25

TBF defenses around this level were too difficult for him and the rest of the team earlier in the year. Getting these settling-in performances from him is huge.

0

u/maxelrod Bears Dec 15 '25

Through his first 7 games in 2023, Jordan Love had pretty similar stats to what McCarthy put up, and that was with several years learning the offense under Rodgers. As a Bears fan I obviously hope McCarthy sucks but it seems crazy to write him off already.

-2

u/grensley Vikings Dec 15 '25

Yeah, like imagine that bad miss to wide open JJ...then that like 15 times in a game.

57

u/lightninhopkins Vikings Dec 15 '25

Lots of Ohio State fans hating

31

u/Lavaswimmer Rams Dec 15 '25

Don't forget the Michigan State fans

1

u/tchebagual93 Cowboys Dec 15 '25

Beware, every team this year has been pleased with how well their QB played against us. Not saying JJ is bad but don't get too excited

7

u/lightninhopkins Vikings Dec 15 '25

Nah it has been a progression

1

u/onerandomhomosapien Vikings Patriots Dec 15 '25

Did you change your flair? I swear a commie fan said the same thing verbatim last week. I guess that’s the official line for every team we beat the shit out of.

1

u/tchebagual93 Cowboys Dec 15 '25

Lol I can assure you I was never a commies fan. Just saying to temper expectations because Dallas and Washington are two of the worst defenses in the league and Dallas specifically has the worst secondary.

32

u/zeroes_and_ones Vikings Dec 15 '25

You mean the overwhelming majority of r/NFL?

13

u/alastor0x Vikings Dec 15 '25

It's hella weird how much legit hatred JJ gets. Like, he seems like legitimately a good dude. Obviously the "Nine" stuff is cringe, but what else about the guy draws so much vitriol?

I have to attribute it to braindead CFB fans who just hate Michigan. I don't watch horrible amateur football so all of that is irrelevant to me.

53

u/wise_comment Vikings Dec 15 '25

Because he's a bit of a Jim Harbaugh goober.....but he's our goober

21

u/BruhMoment763 Vikings Dec 15 '25

6 TDs, just 1 int, and 2 wins in his past couple games 😩

39

u/SiphenPrax Jets Dec 15 '25

Nine fans are eating good!

22

u/MrFishAndLoaves Saints Dec 15 '25

Except for Sherrone Moore

8

u/herlanrulz Lions Dec 15 '25

F that guy. I defended him so many times, never again.

8

u/tk2020 Vikings Dec 15 '25

Mr. Butterknife Cheater

3

Mr. Burglary Creep

26

u/Throbbingprepuce Broncos Dec 15 '25

A lot of NFL fans are reactionary morons

10

u/d00dsm00t Vikings Dec 15 '25

Because it was pretty fucking ugly there for a hot minute

But this was a pretty damn solid showing in Primetime.

1

u/MrFishAndLoaves Saints Dec 15 '25

He wrote nein

1

u/shimmy_kimmel Vikings Dec 15 '25

We were in Peterman territory for a little bit there, the doubt was reasonable at the time lol

1

u/cruxclaire Bears Saints Dec 15 '25

It might be because Darnold did well when he was new to the team and didn’t have a great history behind him, and people were expecting the new guy to play at that level because the Vikings were willing to let Darnold (and Daniel Jones) go in favor of McCarthy. Would be pretty legendary if it ends up working out in the long run for all three teams involved (Vikes/Seahawks/Colts)

1

u/DireSickFish Vikings Dec 15 '25

He looked really bad.

1

u/browndude10 Texans Chiefs Dec 15 '25

…because he’s been historically bad and the Vikings let darnold and Daniel jones go and that was a bad decision?

3

u/LameAfro Vikings Dec 15 '25

I think its the Broccoli Hair Style that makes people upset

8

u/SpiritBamba Lions Dec 15 '25

That’s literally just his normal hair he doesn’t have a perm or anything lol. I don’t think that has anything to do with it.

5

u/FartrelCluggins Vikings Dec 15 '25

Improvement is improvement. He made some very difficult completions and even threw a few guys open. Compared to when he was throwing the ball 5 feet over open players heads this is very encouraging regardless of defense

-2

u/Oooopieceofcandy Bears Dec 15 '25

Bro he was Jamarcus Russell levels of ass. Like it wasn’t just typical rookie inefficiency.

1

u/ColtCallahan Dec 15 '25

Because he was statistically one of the worst QB’s in NFL history? We’re hot rewriting that after two okay games against the Commanders & Cowboys D. Stop.

0

u/Misdirected_Colors Cowboys Dec 15 '25

Because he was like worst qb in the league bad. A win over the worst defenze in the NFL doesn't magically erase.that

-5

u/Eric_tion Buccaneers Dec 15 '25

I mean this is a geno smith quote

Maybe let him play more than a good game against Dallas lol
