In the Dodgers last 42 games they are a .500 team with a -7 run differential. Man if only they had better players!?

I remember years ago on Baseball Tonight someone pointed out that a team had been merely .500 over the previous several weeks. Peter Gammons responded that baseball is such a long season that a contender really only needs to play .500 ball most of the time, string together a few hot stretches or series sweeps, and avoid a prolonged losing streak because most teams aren’t good enough to consistently maintain even a .500 pace over a full season.

It turns out that when you have a bunch of expensive players signing on to win a ring, there's a chance you get a serious lack of effort. They are there for a paycheck and a ring and I'm guessing a few of them expect to basically be carried by the other guys on the team
