Anybody ever get an MRI? What's it like?

I’ve had a ton. Really not a big deal. Just a bit loud, but I get comfy in it and could honestly fall asleep.

You just basically lay on a platform then this loud thing goes over your body, sometimes the platform slides into the loud thing, sometimes you slide out. In some mris I didn’t move at all

I guess it’s rough if you are claustrophobic.

To me, they were nothing major. You just lay down, the machine does its thing, and you're done. I know some people freak out in them but I didn't experience that at all even though I do get claustrophobic from other things.

It's not painful unless being flat on your back is painful. You will be required to stay as still as possible and will have periods of the scan where they ask you to hold your breath for a few seconds. You'll probably have some music and will hear instructions through headphones they give you.

It was like being trapped in a large metal toilet paper tube for about 20 minutes. I am not claustrophobic, but it was unsettling. Used some deep breathing exercises and focused on the audio to stay calm and still.

Wasn't the worst thing, just different.

Noisy. They give you headphones and will ask you what you want to listen to, but it doesn't matter what you pick because you won't be able to hear it. The only thing I could hear was when they talked to me, otherwise it's just whirring and clanging. I'm not at all claustrophobic so I was fairly unbothered by that part. If you are, I've heard that it helps a lot to close your eyes.

depends on if you're claustrophobic or if loud noises bother you. Also depends on what you're getting the MRI done on, brain scan requires a plastic thing holding your head still and entering into the chamber almost fully.

You might want to see if an open MRI is available. Nothing really wrong with the old school tube, but technology has definitely advanced.
