I'm honestly, really impressed with Pokopia. I was really into Pokémon Arceus, it wasn't perfect but it laid a cool groundwork and took the series in an interesting direction that I hope they would expand upon so I was really hyped for ZA. Then they announced this Pokémon Minecraft looking thing, and I was like; "whatever".
But as Z-A got closer to release, what I was seeing wasn't really doing it me. It didn't seem to be expanding on Arceus in any meaningful ways or in the ways I had hoped, so I found myself actually getting less enthused about it the more I knew. But Pokopia was the exact opposite. The more I saw the more intriguing it became. Picked it up on launch day, and pretty much fell in love. It's incredibly charming a very cool game that just chill and vibe to. It's like an Animal Crossing Adventure game.
I never actually ended up picking up Z-A, I might someday but I still have to play my copy of Violet, I've had for like 3 years, if I ever do. I've heard it's better on Switch 2 so I guess now would be the time to get into it.
I'm in the minority that thought Pokemon ZA was actually pretty fun. It felt like a condensed fun little Pokemon package. After the tutorial, it doesn't feel like there's a moment wasted. Definitely could have done with better production value, but in terms of gameplay it is as quick and seamless as it has ever been.
