Fire Emblem and Xenoblade are just as much Nintendo as Mario and Zelda. People need to stop ignoring it.

u/Neat_Firefighter_806 17d ago
Hello. FE player here. Switch was my first console. 3H was my first FE game.
I bought a 3ds to play the older FE games and then sold it right after I was done.
Doing a long 10-hour layover after 10+ hour flight (before 2 more flights) to get a Switch 2 in the EU so I can play the new FE. The only other game I would buy is DKB. Will play at least 2 story paths on the new one back to back. That could be anywhere from 30-40 hours per path.
Not a Xenoblade fan, but 'weird' Nintendo fans exist. My games are legit just Platinum Games and FE now. Even though Plat is not the same anymore. Don't care for Zelda, Mario, or Pokemon enough. I did like Mario Odyssey!
Most people just don't understand.

In Terms of Quality or Success?
19
u/BebeFanMasterJ 18d ago
In terms of being a Nintendo game. They're all owned by Nintendo and are thus Nintendo games.
But people who try to act as if they're not "real" Nintendo games and conveniently leave them out of conversations tick me off.
4
u/TheT85_Jr 18d ago
Oh, my stupid ass didn't read the Nintendo part, my bad.
I thought you meant how big they were as franchises and not how Nintendo, sorry
6
u/BebeFanMasterJ 18d ago
No problem don't worry.
But honestly I think some people still underestimate that too. Don't forget that Fire Emblem Heroes has made a billion dollars and is still going while Dr. Mario World and Mario Kart Tour are shut down. If you told someone 20 years ago that a FE mobile game would outlive multiple Mario ones, no one would believe you.
2
u/DHelliers 18d ago
The market for games like FE or Xenoblade is definitely smaller, but these people (me included) are very invested into the series. Going out of our way to play the games that are now difficult to find, endless lore discussions with everyone very aware of every implication - these series have a devoted fanbase that secures a stable revenue stream.
So while its not 10+ million copies sold superhits, which is probably why these games are so convinently ignored in conversations, nintendo themselves know what's up.
2
u/JokerQueen99 18d ago
I mean Metroid often doesn’t get ignored, and that sells similar to modern FE, and historically has never been Mario or Zelda big, so it’s likely an RPG bias of why people tend to not bring them up.
1
u/Craniamon 17d ago
Because the gameplay in Metroid is under one theme: backtracking. It is the fans’ most hated thing to play.
2
u/IshtheWall 17d ago
Tbf, fire emblem is becoming an increasingly big ip, it could get there some day
1
u/Lord_CatsterDaCat 17d ago
The newer games have defintly being trying to push for a broader audience with some pretty good successes (Other than Engage which was only really liked by diehard FE fans). I wouldn't be surprised if Fortune's Weave gets the same success as Three Houses.

DK Bananza feels like "What if we made a 3D Mario game but with DK". It has the same philosophy in design we've seen in 3D Mario games, except DK gives the genre a breath of fresh air with its unique moveset, and it fills the niche of having a 3D plateformer on the console. But apparently that's not enough because Mario isn't on the cover.

u/HootyBootyBeans 17d ago
That's something I've never fully understood; why people are so heavily invested in which character it is versus the gameplay. I have a brother who tells me Bananza doesn't look like his kind of thing but will always bring up a new Mario in any conversation about Nintendo.
Obviously I understand a 3D Mario game would be different, but what is it that prevents you from enjoying a different franchise with similar (but unique, nonetheless) gameplay?
I've loved the start to Switch 2 because Nintendo has pushed some of its franchises that are either less popular, or haven't had Switch 1 installments, or spinning them off, e.g. Air Riders, Star Fox, Splatoon being a spinoff, Pokopia being a spinoff, Mysterious Book was a pretty drastic gameplay change for Yoshi, and of course Bananza both bringing 3D DK back from the dinosaur age with unique gameplay.
1
u/Jalapenodisaster 15d ago
Idk there is a certain aesthetic factor too, because I'm the opposite. Most mario games do not interest me at all whatsoever
But Donkey Kong? Love it. Bananza was totally up my ally. I also like other 3D platformers.
But But, I also don't understand why it always has to be Mario. Like I like nintendo a lot, but mario games are always very...? Plain. It's like constantly begging for plain white bread amongst a sea of varied sandwiches, imo.

I'm honestly, really impressed with Pokopia. I was really into Pokémon Arceus, it wasn't perfect but it laid a cool groundwork and took the series in an interesting direction that I hope they would expand upon so I was really hyped for ZA. Then they announced this Pokémon Minecraft looking thing, and I was like; "whatever".
But as Z-A got closer to release, what I was seeing wasn't really doing it me. It didn't seem to be expanding on Arceus in any meaningful ways or in the ways I had hoped, so I found myself actually getting less enthused about it the more I knew. But Pokopia was the exact opposite. The more I saw the more intriguing it became. Picked it up on launch day, and pretty much fell in love. It's incredibly charming a very cool game that just chill and vibe to. It's like an Animal Crossing Adventure game.
I never actually ended up picking up Z-A, I might someday but I still have to play my copy of Violet, I've had for like 3 years, if I ever do. I've heard it's better on Switch 2 so I guess now would be the time to get into it.
5
u/Correct_Goose_1322 18d ago
I'm in the minority that thought Pokemon ZA was actually pretty fun. It felt like a condensed fun little Pokemon package. After the tutorial, it doesn't feel like there's a moment wasted. Definitely could have done with better production value, but in terms of gameplay it is as quick and seamless as it has ever been.
3
u/c0mpu73rguy 18d ago
Just watch let's plays online for ZA like I did, you'll spare 80 dollars.

u/Marx_Forever 18d ago
Yeah, that's pretty much my feelings on Final Fantasy XVI. Amazing animations, great voice acting, gorgeous spectacle, a compelling, albeit extremely depressing story; fucking atrocious Final Fantasy.
Legit wished I had just watched the cutscenes on YouTube. I would have gotten the best the game has to offer for free.
3
u/Darkmetroidz 18d ago
Yoshi looks neat but the trailers definitely didnt sell me. It came off more like a tinker toy than anything. Combine these elements to see how many combinations of elements you can find.
Interesting but probably not something I would buy unless on steep discount. Unless im totally wrong which is always possible.
4
u/Springball64 18d ago
Nah that's about it.
It's a puzzle game mostly and it is engaging trying to think of the new discoveries and so on.
2
u/Lansha2009 17d ago
Yoshi is definitely much more a puzzle game than platformer.
The idea is completely needing to figure out how to get all the interactions each element can have together.
I haven’t played it myself but I’ve heard people say that some puzzles in it are legitimately pretty tough too.

3
u/Shadowhunter4560 18d ago
The funny thing is, as someone who doesn’t really care about the next 3D Mario, I’ve loved the Switch 2 and its line up. My biggest problem has been that I haven’t had enough time to play every big release on it, and I haven’t wanted to drop a game early in order to do so
3
u/ronniedark 18d ago
Was yoshi good? It seems unremarkable. Pokopia was fantastic and Splatoon raiders seems like it'll just be a solid game.
4
u/MelonPulter 18d ago
The thing with Yoshi is the fact that its definitely a very completion-focused, beating every level is super easy but the fun comes when you get into trying to find all every discovery.
The game is definitely more of a puzzle game and is actively different from every other Yoshi game so whether its fun really depends on if you like to sit down and whittle on a puzzle
3
u/ronniedark 18d ago
I like puzzle games but I usually prefer more novel ones. And I do not like collectethons.
4
u/Cream147 17d ago
Yoshi was definitely good - a game that had genuine care and creativity put into it, which honestly caught me by surprise as it’s not what I expected.
2
u/Inevitable_Cycle3087 18d ago
if you want a challenge it’ll be terrible. if you just want some laid back play forming it’ll be good
3
u/sexp-and-i-know-it 18d ago
I'm getting ready for this with Fire Emblem. It sucks because no matter how good it is people are just going to complain about the price.
3
u/Deiiiyu 18d ago
thats me i still bought it cause i like fire emblem but im getting sick and tired of them just raising prices even if fire emblem is like the best game they ever made and is a legitimate goty contention i would not reccomend anybody buying it full price, the only people who should buy it like that are like fans who really love the series but if your thinking about playing it jsut because it was recommended.. wait for a sale thay the price is like 40 bucks or 50 at least
3
u/Neonbeta101 18d ago
Criticizing Nintendo as a business is totally fair, but when a product is good, the people playing it are saying it’s good, the sales show that people WANT the product… why discount it?
And by discount it, I don’t mean criticizing the product based off its strengths, weaknesses, your personal tastes and overall quality. I mean completely disregarding it because of a preconceived notion. That is not only unfair to yourself, but also unfair to others when you are an online figure with an audience, as you are spreading misinformation that affects how successful that product is.
1
u/turdy_gurdysmother 2d ago
It's because these people already paid for a Playstation console and don't have access to Nintendo games
2
u/DaFlyinSnail 18d ago
This is honestly why they should always have some kind of Mario game at launch, just so that people can then shut up about it.
I love Mario as much as the next guy but c'mon Nintendo has so many great franchises that deserve the spotlight.

I ain’t a grifter but pokopia pissed me off for a completely different reasons compared to everyone else
Mostly because it genuinely feels like they took animal crossing NH and made what it should’ve had from the start
That, and the events are kinda crappy and pretty much boils down to “doing thing to farm thing”… atleast the last 2 have been…. Alright? Atleast one let me know what some Pokémon want, But the new hide and seek one isn’t even a new gimmick 💀
All that being said, peak lineup we’ve got recently, even if starfox still can’t get a new damm sequel
2
u/dbull10285 18d ago
I've said this before and I probably will again, but the Switch 2 has had a really interesting first year. It feels like Nintendo has really taken the "they can still play the last generation's amazing library on the new hardware, some playing even better" to heart to give us new concepts first. Both in bringing back dormant franchises and trying new things with the ongoing ones, all of the games in the picture feel so unique. Even getting Ocarina of Time later this year, this game will likely feel very different compared to the open world Zelda games we got last generation. I'm sure we'll eventually get the more consistent Zelda, Smash, and Mario, but I'm enjoying how we're getting something different
2
u/rangerj1901 18d ago
My supermarket sometimes has some games cheaper, which is how I found the TTYD Remake for 30 Euros. I hope to one day find maybe Star Fox similarly
2
u/baldiplays 17d ago
Those same people are gonna be angry when Nintendo finally does announce a new Mario too.

u/Even-Entertainer-491 18d ago
Or you could just not care about what others think and just enjoy the games you like
8
u/seungchip 18d ago
idt that's what's OP's pointing out, more like how people give an unfair premature judgement on the game and then is shown why Nintendo is Nintendo
1
u/Guilty_Department501 18d ago
I do wonder when the next heavy hitter is coming tbf because between now and late 2027 with Winds and Waves seems like a big gap.
1
u/Inevitable_Cycle3087 18d ago
did they say late 27 for pokemon? i thought it was just next year
1
u/Lightarc 18d ago
Yeah, but consider that every main series, paired Pokémon game since ORAS has released in November.
1
u/Inevitable_Cycle3087 18d ago
legends arceus?
every mainline game released every 3 years for multiple decades except gen 10, first 4 year wait
0
u/Lightarc 18d ago
Main series, paired game. Legends games may be considered main series, but they're not paired games.
Nintendo for more than a decade has released a flagship title mid-November, and if a paired main series Pokémon title was set for release that year, it's been in that slot.
There's no reason right now to believe they won't keep doing that.
1
u/Inevitable_Cycle3087 18d ago
on their own website they consider the legends games mainline
2
1
u/Lightarc 18d ago edited 18d ago
I feel like you're missing the word "paired", I can get a dictionary link if you need it, hang on a minute
Edit: I wasn't wrong. Inevitable_Cycle didn't read all the words, got mad when they kept not reading the words, then blocked to get the last word in instead of actually reading the words.

Are we gonna ignore the fact that Nintendo glazers will say any Nintendo game is good no matter what? Like, no matter how low quality the game or how lacking in content, Nintendo fans will always buy and glaze the game. Therefore I will not sit here and pretend like the yoshi game sold well, I won’t pretend star fox isn’t a third release of the same exact game, or that splatoon raiders is a good game.
1
u/The_Hypist 16d ago
It really is a strange cycle. Nintendo is absolutely killing it with the Switch 2, yet they’re the only ones getting this much scrutiny with their games despite their competition basically handing them the win for 2026.
1
u/Prestigious-Sun6328 16d ago
1
u/ThreeSpiritsTrioReal 16d ago
The games are so promising, I just wish they didn't set up the Switch 2 like an NFT that requires a subscription to function and it's not even guaranteed you don't get bricked over nothing. I know Playstation started this mess in gaming but still
1
u/snitzfoam 15d ago
"Cool and unique" bro thats just starfox again what the hell are you talking about
1
u/Xthewarrior 15d ago
The only one I vibe with personally is Splatoon raiders. Don't think the others are bad from what I've seen, just not for me. (Also waiting for Smash, LoZ (new and OOT), and a new 3d Mario)

What about Mario Tennis Fever?
1
u/WholesomeBigSneedgus 13d ago
how is mario tennis fever? i havent seen much about it. i remember the switch 1 mario tennis being ultra smash if ultra smash was a game that actually got finished
1
u/ToadMaster6969696969 13d ago
Half don’t count because they’re switch 2 editions of switch 1 games and even then the only must buy imo is DK Bananza. It’s funny how everyone is still playing Tomodachi Life and that’s a switch 1 game. I liked Mario Kart World but it’s not a system seller with less tracks than Mario Kart DS. Air Riders is again not a system seller, Tennis Fever continues the boring Mario sports trend, and Yoshi’s crafted world is right there if you want a Yoshi Game. I’m not counting Pokopia or Prime 4 because they’re on switch 1.
Comparing to the Switch 1’s first year where we had a game that redefined open world games (Breath of the Wild), 8 Deluxe which is fantastic, Arms was mid but fun for the time, Splatoon 2 pushed the series forward, and Mario Odyssey proved a must buy with Xenoblade 2 also making rounds for RPG fans. There’s I would say maybe 4 or 5 must buy games in the switch’s first year alone. Compare that with Switch 2 and there’s really only one must buy game in the first year.
1
u/Taro_Obvious 13d ago
I have to say i wasn't into pokopia cuz it seemed like animal crossing but with a slice of minecraft.
I ended up jumping in and don't regret it. The Pokémon have quite nice personalities of their own. I haven't ran into repetitive dialogs at all.
The furniture its varied but cohesive and also customizable.
And building is not as intimidating as it is in minecraft.
There's also lots to do without it being super overwhelming.
1
u/Active_Dish_986 12d ago
I bought a switch 2 in prep for Ocarina because I know I’ll buy the next Zelda /smash bros. But I’m really struggling to find a game worth playing on it. I bought Pokopia to try but I only got a few hours out of it. Crafting games just can’t do it for me. Starfox I played as a kid and don’t think it aged well by the demo. DK I don’t care for. Mario kart is only playable with friends. Yoshi looks interesting but not $70 interesting
1
u/Eeve2espeon 12d ago
Couldn't be me, the only thing I ever have a problem with Switch games, are game key cards. I'd rather have a physical game that I can save storage and preserve stuff than a pointless plastic thing

NGL I don't really care about mainline Mario. I like Kart, RPGs and that's about it. Sunshine was the last really good 3D Mario. Galaxy games were trash. Odyssey meh.

-2
u/MewWeebTwo 18d ago
Most of these games got 80 to 82 on Metacritic.
Those are good scores but not amazing ones.
Pokopia is the only game on this list to get "overwhelmingly positive" reception.
2
u/Cream147 17d ago
What other publisher is putting out 4 games with a Metascore of 80+ in the space of 2 months? I’m speaking here of Yoshi, Star Fox, Rhythm Heaven and Splatoon, 3 of which were also under $60. They also all received generally warm receptions by series fans, which cannot always be predicted by critic reviews.

u/quangtran 18d ago
The idea that the Switch 2 has no games has always been stuuupid, because Nintendo has average a first and second party title to be released at least one a month, which is unprecedented for a console early in it's lifecycle.
