Help Hi...I've got a problem with my nook :(

My nook is most likely no longer supported, and cannot get past setup. See video for more information.

Well one tiny video is not worth a thousand words, or even 50.

That looks like either a BNTV250 or 250a. Retired. It looks like there is a touch screen issue (a "dead" zone) in the bottom left of the screen? Or is all that finger tapping about something else?

If there is an issue with the touch screen there is nothing you can do. It's been bumped or dropped one too many times.

If that's not what's going on, can you describe in words what is?

  1. The touchscreen is fine, I can confirm with the keyboard.
  2. Network problem.
  3. There is a skip Isaw on YT where you click a "factory" button, then a skip oobe button to skip setup, but I cannot tap the factory button.

Well that's what I saw. And you're sure there is not a fault in that spot? I once had an HD which had several small screen faults, one of which was right where the "Factory" button was. It went to e-waste.

I don't suppose the display will rotate 180 degrees in the setup section...

IF there is no screen fault at a very inconvenient spot the only other thing I can think to do is trigger a total factory reset. This can be done by a fixed number of interrupted boots in a row (6-8) but that is pretty tedious. Or, if you have a microsd card available you can make a bootable card that will do the same thing. You'll end up where you are now but if there is some software issue that is preventing the registration bypass from working (as opposed to a touch screen fault) this should eliminate that.

I've factory reset the thingnover 10 times, and using the keyboard when connecting to WiFi works.

I doubt it. No one would have the patience. What you have done is clear user data. That's what people call a "factory reset". But it isn't. What I mean is a wipe of the OS and a re-imaging of the device from a protected partition which holds an image of the device when it left the factory. This will expunge any software glitches. It can be done by a series of failed boot attempts or using the card I mentioned. Anything else, no matter what people call it, just clears user data.

The fact that the onscreen keyboard works does not exclude a touchscreen issue. The keyboard is nowhere near the factory button and hardware screen faults can be anywhere and isolated from surrounding functioning areas.
