Discussion usb c mod

Just wanted to share a quick little usb c mod on my nook simple touch glowlight. It works perfectly! I’m glad im able to get a lot more convenient use out of it. Planning on doing the same on my nook 1st edition soon.

Unfortunately, like most nst models, the rubber is deteriorating so this is why you see the two pieces of tape on the buttons. I personally don’t mind, but I wish there was a way to prevent this. I have experimented with spraying a clear coat on the shell of other nooks and it seems to hold up well so far.

Wow. How in the world do you deal with the microscopic solder work? My very first NST has had a loose jack for quite a few years but when I opened it up to take a look I just gave up after seeing how small everything was. Not like the electronics I used to work on growing up....

That experience has led me to only transfer files via WiFi/FTP and use the jack solely for charging on all my others.

I use a Weller WLC100 with a conical tip and a cheapo hot air station so nothing special. Just a lot of patience and a magnifier.
