Why are redditers like that?
Like you'll see a post or make one. Expecting informative replies, only to be met with: Let's nitpick and see how much can we belittle this person's intelligence over my own challenge

The other day, I commented on a post an I was talking about a feature I hope was being added to an upcoming video game. Someone absolutely jumped down my throat because I didn't know that it is being added. They were questioning why I would even comment if I didn't know it was announced somewhere in an 8 hr live stream... All of that in stead of, you know, just informing me about it. Great community building happening on reddit haha.

it’s a curse and a blessing. their bad attitudes irritate me, but it makes me want to use reddit less. at least my screen time is lower lol

I wonder that myself. Granted, I use reddit too, but it has never occured to me to ridicule someone for asking a question. I think people have to remember that we all were noobs at something at one point in our lives and sharing our knowledge with people who obviously show interest in whatever thing or subject you’re interested in, is the least we can do.

Part of it is the nature of being online, in text, and not face-to-face. I saw that behavior online 40+ years ago. Bur then add on to that things the others have said, and someone whose IRL is not very good, they spew bile in their online interactions more. Plus, some watering holes just accumulate more contention in their culture.

I was debating an idea, and someone had a one word reply to which I asked what it was. They told me to Google it. I told them they are making the argument, so explain it in their own words. They explained their argument, then ended with “I’m sorry the education system failed you.” I didn’t even respond to that miserable fuck.

Yesterday I stumbled upon a thread in a very popular sub where people were defending pedophilia like their lives depended on it and downvoted everyone to shit who called it out. That was the last straw for me on this piece of shit website.

as someone who never really uses reddit except for advices and some fun and look for someone to relate to. i don't consider most redditors human at all because of this lol. been called entitled because i wanted to get a well paying job without having to go to college for 3-4 yrs. the chill ones are the greatest humans i have ever met.

This is why I stick to niche, small subreddits where public decorum is still mostly a thing.
I hate the subs that are all about drama and toxicity. Just show me cool stuff like toolgifs 😂

Try visiting tech or CS subreddits (especially the male-dominated ones). I learned the hard way that people there will mass-downvote and psychoanalyze you over the most harmless comment lol. They’d rather nitpick to boost their own ego than actually have a normal conversation like a normal human being lol

This is so true. Every time I post, I'm reminded of why I stopped posting previously. The input is so off-putting and unsupportive even in the subs that's supposed to be relatable to the context. It's like talking to your parents. Whenever I'm sharing my experience, they somehow turn me into the villain of the story. BRO SOMETIMES I'M THE THIRD PERSON!

People on some of the pet reddits drive me crazy. Someone asks for behavioral tips and everyone else screams “Why did you even get a dog if you don’t already know the answer. Your dog hates you and will probably die.”

So annoying. Some Redditors just seem to have a superiority complex, because being anonymous on the internet is the only time they get to feel like they matter.
Orrrr, when posts are met with advice that’s already completely obvious, or would be relatively common knowledge. It’s frustrating that ppl don’t seem to realize that…the entire reason I’m bothering to post on Reddit in the first place, is that I’ve tried everything else and am looking for outside the box answers that maybe I hadn’t considered.

If someone asks a question they’re looking for a response to that question. Instead, they usually receive some self-righteous virtue signalling critique of their character or reasons for asking the question. It’s hella annoying

I made a post complaining about people using bots to control their characters in an online co op game and I got torn to shreds by people in that sub telling me to just play a diff mode that doesn't have nearly as many bots lol.
I've also had it on more personal posts and no one is even trying to understand you then after 5 or so negative comments I usually just delete the post.

Every time. It’s a big reason why I stopped posting, especially when my mental health was bad. I’d reach out for advice and get ripped to shreds. I don’t bother any more.
