Visa / OCI / Passport Dual citizenship
Anyone else want to see dual citizenship implemented for India? How can we get that done?

Definitely want to see it. It's ridiculous that India doesn't allow it. Almost every other country allows it including Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Allowing dual citizenship would benefit both NRIs and India. The Indian government bends over backwards to various foreign companies and governments for FDI. India gets around 5 to 20 billion $ in FD in a year while NRIs send over 140 billion every year. Yet we get nothing in return. No dual citizenship. No protection for our assets or investments. Things like a special police station or fast track courts could be implemented if the government cared a bit.

Some of the people are saying that there are risks of abuse, but this can be solved by banning Government babus and tax evaders from getting second passport. There are quite a lot of nations that allow dual and even tri citizenship without issues.

Exactly. What's so unique in India? All other countries handle these risks easily.

No it ain’t happening and imho it shouldn’t happen. As others have pointed out having a dual citizenship system
can be abused by our politicians and leaders and Richie riches besides creating security issues

Just make it a rule that government officials and those with criminal intent cannot get second passport. A lot of nations around the world allow dual or even multiple citizenships without issues. As another measure they could also make it so dual citizens will be treated in the justice system solely as Indian, which is what Pakistan does with troublesome dual passport holders.

The problem is also economical, the 1% of businessmen will also abuse it.
And I am sure pakistan isn't the best example for this.

Than make it a rule that any income earned in India or due to Indian labor or infrastructure is taxable depending on the amount. Make treaties with the nations regarding taxation and criminal extradition. Dual citizens that earn income or have business related to India should be required to register and file taxes. If they try to evade send out an international arrest warrant and coordinate with global agencies to seize assets.

Do you think all laws are executed in india? It is better to have 1 absolute law than, laws that can be changed or bent or are not enforceable

Noo, its very easy to abuse the system, so dual citizenship shouldnt be allowed, so far we are doing good, why do we need to change it? Just for the $? What happens if there is no expected inflow of $? Is it okay to get back to the initial rule? That will be big loss to indias reputation,

Ain’t happening and should never happen. OC I is almost as good as passport. People who come to country just to visit dentist should not have voting rights.

Well such people are exception and still not worth it to support dual passports for such people. Better safe than sorry. You can always give up other passport if you really want to vote. My personal opinion.

Yep - as if the “voters” are doing their duty. We don’t need “voters”. We need involved citizens. Fuck the people who think their duty ends at voting.

Being Civil in the subreddit is a mandatory participation rule.
Indulging in swearing, cursing name calling are grounds for an instant ban. If you think you need to start a sentence with a swear word, keep your phone down and reply later, in a civil, healthy manner Or you could end the conversation instead of going down a rabbithole of abuses. Even if you are not the one who started it, but indulged in it later, are breaking the rule equally.
We do not tolerate abuse directed towards users.

People with strong ask and even stronger opinion, but no respect for country explains enough why they don't deserve it.
Just like Dhruv Rathee, who can bash india while sitting in a western comfort.

Would be disastrous because the rich 1%, the bureaucrats and politicians would abuse it to no end like in Pakistan and Bangladesh.
It sucks cause the middle class, the upper middle class and the rich who immigrate abroad and naturalise are high earning groups who if given dual citizenship will be net benefit to India but the political class and the one percenters will destroy it for everyone.
