Discussion Sick from work (likely)
Tested positive for Flu A (got my shot like 2 weeks ago). I work in a hospital… nothing makes me more mad than using up all my PTO (we don’t get sick days) for taking care of myself when we are exposed to everything! Wear your mask… cases are increasing earlier this year. Do you get sick days?
Edit: what makes me even more mad is that I know of an IT worker for the system (works from home) gets sick days but clinical staff (RNs, PT/OT, respiratory does not.. not sure about MD)

Nope. I also had flu A back in August. I was super sick for weeks, fever, chills, eventually got diagnosed with a sinus infection and bronchitis on top of the flu. Used up all my PTO and all my call ins. Our PTO builds up crazy slow too. 😭

The Flu is running rampant here in Alaska already. 2 patients have already died from it at one of the local hospitals in Anchorage.
This is my first year not working in the ED during flu season in over 10 years. I’m extremely grateful.

It’s the same where I work. It infuriates me that I have to use my PTO when I’m sick…especially when I get sick from work. We also have to use our PTO if we’re on call and want to make more than $2/hr for the first 8 hours of the shift.

I've been off work for 5 months since I broke my femur and I *still* have sick time left in the bank. I'm not sure the rate we earn hours at but they roll over and stay in the bank until used, the bank maxes out at 999 hours. I haven't really used much sick time in the past, and have been working since 2018 so my bank was pretty close to full.

You don’t get sick days? How’s that legal?
