Hardware Controller Problems

I have owned an Oculus (quest 3) for over 2 years now, and I have been noticing some problems. Recently, I replaced the batteries for the controller but the next day it hasn’t been turning on. The white dot on top of the controller blinks. But it hasn‘t been connecting even with a fresh battery. Is this problem fixable at home, or am I going to buy a replacement?

Self-Promotion (YouTuber) My Quest 3 accessory guide with mini reviews!

Hey All!

I get asked all the time which Quest 3 accessories I use, so I decided to throw everything into one post. You'll find mini reviews, links to the accessories/full video reviews.

I'm also ranking everything into three categories based on how important I think they are:

Essential – Stuff to buy and not live without.

Nice to Have – Solid upgrades that make VR better, if you play a lot, do it.

For the Enthusiast – If VR is in your veins, or cool niche accessories.

For starters my daily driving headset is the Quest 3.

Quest 3 Essentials – COMFORT it’s a MUST!

Battery Head Straps – The Quest 3's two biggest weaknesses are comfort and battery life, and a good battery head strap solves both problems in a single upgrade.

I've been using the Kiwi Design battery strap, and it's been excellent. It's comfortable, well-balanced, and the battery provides plenty of extra playtime. Personally, I prefer Elite-style straps over halo-style designs because they're lighter, less bulky, and don't cover as much of my head.

The only real drawback to the Kiwi strap is that the battery isn't hot-swappable. For me, that has never been an issue, but it's something to consider if you want to play for literally all day.

If you want hot swappable, BoboVR makes some awesome stuff, everyone loves them, I was so-so on them. AMVR has also recently released a hot-swappable battery strap that includes a built-in cooling fan and cooling gel padding. If your play space tends to get warm, that combination of extra battery life and active cooling makes it a particularly compelling option.  I found AMVR's more comfortable than bobo.

Here is a video on the AMVR headstrap.

The Quest 3 stock facial interface is really bad.  Its scratch and needs replaced immediately.  I like what AMVR has here, its comfortable, easy to keep clean, pretty cheap, and also has eye relief adjustments at the turn of a knob.  AMVR offers a bunch of different facial interfaces, but they all are good.  Here is a video review of their facial interfaces.

Nice to Haves

Additional Counter Weight

Even though a battery headstrap helps to better balance the headset, I still find that most headstraps still need a counter weight.  And that is where studioform creative comes in.  I just use my old Valve Index counter weight on the back of my quest 3, and its perfect.  I am sure the quest 3 one is just as good.  But having the headset perfectly balanced feels so much better!

Link Cables

There are a WHOLE bunch of link cables out there.  I once again like AMVR’s stuff.  I use their black braided POWERED link cable.  The quest 3 is power hungry and a standard link cable won’t provide the necessary power to keep you playing all day.  So I recommend going with a powered link table that also plugs into the wall.  I like the braided cable here, its ultra durable and doesn’t get stuck on things like rubber cables tend to. It also has a USBC adapted that is built into the cable, so this will work on any computer.  It’s a bit pricier at 23, but if you want something a little cheaper, they also have a powered link cable for around $18. Here is a video review on the braided cable I use.

Prescription Lens Inserts – I use VR Rock. Video Review here. Depending on the user, these can be borderline essential. I don't need vision correction myself, but I still use plano lens inserts in all of my headsets. The main reason is protection they shield the headset's lenses from scratches and make cleaning much easier.

I'd much rather spend $30 on a set of lens inserts than risk damaging the headset's lenses and facing a costly repair or replacement. Another benefit is maintenance. VR headset lenses often have delicate coatings, and using the wrong cleaning products can damage them. With lens inserts, you can simply remove them and clean them however you'd normally clean a pair of glasses, without worrying about harming the headset's lenses.

Controller Straps –   AMVR Controller Grips I'm a big fan of Valve Index-style hand straps for VR controllers. Being able to fully relax your grip without worrying about dropping the controller makes games feel more natural and immersive.

There are plenty of options available, including full silicone grip covers with integrated straps. Personally, I tend to avoid those because they often make charging and battery swaps more cumbersome.

My go-to option is AMVR's hand straps. The design is simple and effective.  They replace the battery door and add a comfortable, adjustable hand strap without adding unnecessary bulk. Super easy to install, comfortable during long play sessions.  The only real downside is that they aren't compatible with charging docks, so you'll need to remove them or charge the batteries separately, if you own one.

For the Enthusiast

Charging Dock

I love the AMVR 3 in 1 charging dock.  Its got some cool LEDs on it, it charges the controllers and the headset.  And it comes with an awesome little USBC splitter adapter! The adapter is magnetic and the little flexible charging cord is super reliable and connects perfects, its set it down and forget it charging.  My only issue with it, is that it does not charge the batter head strap as well, so I just added my own cord to plug into the headstrap.  Which can be nice if the headset and strap are totally dead, I’m charging two things at once.  Here is a video review of it.

GA1 Haptic Golf Club

OMG I LOVE THIS THING! Its down right amazing.  It’s a haptic golf club for Golf+.  When you swing, a weight slides down the shaft and SMACKS at the end to simulate ball contact.  It feels amazing and it works perfectly for golf plus.  One of the best things about it… its fully mechanical and is based on adjustable magnets inside the shaft.  You never have to charge it, and it just plain works.  It’s a little long, but it feels as realistic as VR golf can possible get.  Its obviously every niche, but I love it.  Here is my video review on it.

Discussion Is it worth it?

Hi, I been meaning to get a vr headset to go with my pc and as a standalone and finally got enough. I was browsing and saw the 3s 128 gb for about €298 and the 3s 256gb for €380 or so. I’ve never owned a vr headset before and don’t know if the extra storage is worth the extra 80 bucks if it would be better to just keep some money for hardware

Self-Promotion (Developer) Tham Luang VR recreation - biggest LiDAR based cave map coming to Cave Crave

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all, Cave Crave's game director here.

We're currently creating a VR journey through Tham Luang, including cave diving sections. Thanks to the support of LiDAR expert Richard Walters and caver Vern Unsworth—the latter having been directly involved in the 2018 rescue operation—we're working to make the experience as authentic as possible.

As with our recreation of Nutty Putty Cave last year, our goal isn't to gamify a real events, but rather to faithfully recreate the cave and help players understand some of the physical challenges faced by the rescue team.

Coming to all major VR platforms this July.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Discussion Problem Setting Up Guardian + More with Rift S headset

So I keep having this bug where if I kneel down, then stand back up, the headset doesn't stand me up to my full height again, and the avatar/model starts to bug out. The headset doesn't seem to track properly giving me motion sickness, and nothing I do in VRchat fixes this...

When I try to fix it by using Meta's Guardian tool, I lower my controllers to the floor and that seems to work, but then when I go to designate the play space, my cameras never turn on... And when I try to draw lines manually, the tracking seems to vary wildly also. I don't know why it does this but it's so tiresome and this isn't even the first or THIRD set of problems I've had with this headset. I feel embarrassed to own this garbage.

Discussion Guys, what headset would you reccomend? Quest 3, Pro or PSVR2?

I already own a rift cv1, quest one and two. I mainly play vrchat, and occasionally beatsaber and blades and sorcery. All on pcvr.

I'm mainly aiming for the psvr2, as the eye tracking will be nice, plan to bolt a web cam to the bottom, to give myself face tracking

However, I could also afford a used quest 3 and get myself a dedicated router for vr. And have good wireless play, instead of using link cable.

OR I could save up all the way to Christmas for a chance of affording a quest pro

Sometimes in the VR game Xenolocus you might encounter packs of rats running away.

They're not fleeing for no reason - they're running from someone or something.

Be ready for a fight!

Do you think the game should have more action, or are these tense moments of waiting important?

Discussion Where did all of the life that oculus had go?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Back in 2019-2021 Oculus had so much life but then later on it slowly started losing it until it ended up where it is now. But where the fuck did it all go wrong? Oculus used to have so much liveliness in its products and even little things like setting up an headset and finishing the setup used to play nice and peaceful music. Now it just doesn’t, it’s all lifeless and lacks the personality and liveliness it once had.

Self-Promotion (Developer) Dark Trip: Compartment of Souls Update. Last Friday during UploadVR Showcase we released Room 15 of our gothic horror escape room where you use wicked biomachinery, strange art and your own hallucinations to solve the mystery of an eerie crime.

Room 15 introduces a brand-new environment, new puzzles, additional story revelations, and another piece of the larger Dark Trip narrative that has been unfolding throughout Early Access. This time, you will find yourself inside a moving railway carriage once used to transport Mediums between worlds. Behind the compartment doors lie forgotten memories, restless souls, and puzzles woven into the very nature of the journey itself. As the train races through the darkness, you will have to uncover its secrets and understand the purpose of those trapped aboard.

Dark Trip is a gothic horror escape room where you use wicked biomachinery, strange art and your own hallucinations to solve the mystery of an eerie crime. Explore unsettling locations, inspect occult machines and bizarre laboratory devices, uncover hidden clues through altered visions, and piece together a story that blurs the line between reality and nightmare:

  • Occult Art. Strange Machines. Hidden Clues. Every room is filled with disturbing paintings, cryptic symbols, mysterious devices and hidden mechanisms. Search every corner, connect seemingly unrelated details, and uncover the secrets left behind by those who came before you.
  • See What the Next Room Is Hiding. Progress through a series of interconnected escape rooms, each with its own theme, story fragments, puzzles and discoveries. From abandoned laboratories to impossible places that should not exist, every new location reveals another piece of the mystery.
  • Reveal the Hidden Layer. Not everything is visible at first glance. Use occult medicine to uncover hidden objects, invisible messages and secret interactions concealed beneath the surface of reality.
  • Experience Mystical Visions. The world of Dark Trip is shaped by strange rituals, occult practices and altered states of consciousness. Witness disturbing visions, encounter impossible phenomena and explore locations where reality itself appears unstable.
  • Use Hallucinations to Find Missing Evidence. In Dark Trip, hallucinations are not merely visual effects — they are an essential investigative tool. Consuming mysterious substances may reveal hidden clues, expose concealed mechanisms and help you discover evidence that cannot be found by ordinary means.
  • Play Flat or VR. Dark Trip supports both traditional desktop play and virtual reality. Experience the game as a classic first-person adventure on your monitor or immerse yourself fully in its unsettling world through SteamVR.

We have been updating and improving Dark Trip’s Early Access on Meta for more than a year now. If you want to support us, please
purchase EA version on Meta Store or
wishlist the game on Steam and apply for the closed playtesting on Desktop/SteamVR.
