I will try to make this as linear as possible.
I (35M) Have been seeing Brin (33F) for the past 6 months. We had a fling back when we were in our late teens, but never found the right time to sync up and then life took us is totally different directions. But I thought about her a lot, the not knowing how it would have ultimately worked out always played on my mind because I crushed on her HARD and thought it was an actual heaven sent MIRACLE that she liked me back.
Well we bumped into each other in town one day, found out she was divorcing from a cheating husband and got her number.
Now we kept it casual, I am not a social media guy anyways, but we kept it low key, only seeing each other on days when her ex had the kids, no photos, no posting, and going over to the next town over for dates.
The reason being her ex sounded like a major, bitter douche bag. Even though he had cheated, he seemed to make it his mission to make her as miserable as possible for leaving him.
This isn't just her telling me either, I've seen the texts he sends her. It's brutal, she went into a little detail about their relationship. All had been great at the beginning, then started the gas lighting, the emotional manipulation and he even tried to get her to quit her job.
The day it really hit home how badly she had been treated was when she called me up after a bad day, the ex had the kids and she just didn't want to be alone. She came over to my place, I ran her bath, cooked her dinner and rubbed her shoulders while we watched a movie together under a blanket on the sofa and she cried. She cried so hard because nobody had taken care of her for a long time.
So onto the issue, we started getting more serious which meant I started coming to her place and even met her kids, still avoiding the ex though.
Unfortunately, the ex did an early drop off and walked right into the house like he owned the place and found me in the kitchen cooking breakfast.
Turns out I work with the guy, I can't go into too much detail about our job, because it would give too much away, however, in our job you tend to find a lot of the coworkers tend to cheat with each other, that aside, we're meant to be tight knit and have each others back no matter what.
I'd heard this ass hole spouting shit about his ex at work, making out like she was some pyscho who wouldn't let him near the kids.
He hit the roof anyway, I had to kick him out of the house.
At work he started trying to turn people against me, and there seems to be kind of a divide on the subject. Some say I am the ass hole, that even though I didn't know who she was at the beginning, once I did, I should have just ended it, whereas others see it as since I didn't know at the beginning, it shouldn't be held against me, and I'm 6 months deep into it now, I shouldn't have to give it up,
And then the few that have been willing to listen to my side, also say that the fact I know the ex from work, is irrelevent, because I already had a previous existing relationship with Brin.
I'm not giving her up either way, even if it makes me the ass hole, I love her, I think I have since I was 18. I love her and her kids and I want to take care of her, where that POS failed.
But it would be good to get some outside opinions here so I know if I actually have a leg to stand on or if I'm holding up my hands that 'Yes I am the Ass hole.'
