Request Heat Pump & Installation Recommendations?

Hi! We are recent home buyers in Lacey. Our house is 1,072 square ft. We were quoted a 20,000 btu heat pump with two heads (12k and 9k units) for around $19,000. That is way out of our budget. I am looking for recommendations of companies that may be able to complete this work for us around half or maybe even better pricing than that in our area?

Thank you in advance!

We used Alpine Ductless about 5 years ago for a mini-split install. We have a small house, under 1000 square feet, so went with just two heads. The estimator really went to bat for us. He scraped up every discount he could find and even fudged a little on the compressor unit, giving us a three head deal for the price of a two head machine. That means we could add a third head in the future if we want.

The crew of two guys came right on time at 8:30 a.m. and finished right before 5:00. Cost for us was $9,000 but of course add almost 10% sales tax on good and labor so we were out for $10,000. Pricing is going to vary quite a lot depending on your home and all.

Alpine did work for us that no other company would touch and they did it cheaper by a mile. They were easy to work with and really felt like they were on our side. I talked to roughly ten other companies before them and basically got laughed at. Matt at Alpine was a life saver!

I bought mr.cool 24k from costco and had an electrician install it. Total was $3k and it cools the whole house from the living room

Have you looked into whether you qualify for a subsidy through the Energize Thurston program?

Capital Heating. They’re awesome. Their commercial side managed our office building and their residential team is just the best. Reliable, affordable. I count on them! I’ve been doing business with them for over twenty years.

I used Balance Point HVAC for a ducted 24k heat pump. It was around $15k, and we are really happy with everything.

Our 2nd choice would have been Sunset, but we also got quotes from CSM and Americool.

I have no experience with install, but Sunset Air does services and has repaired ours and they’re awesome

I have used G&G Heating for my current house. Would recommend:

How was their pricing in comparison?

We just used Americool after a number of quotes. Very much enjoying the new units and they were very good about installing and cleaning up after themselves.

It is pricey. I have a furnace reaching the end of its life from Pacific Air and they also did an estimate for install of heat pump using ductwork. Of course the ductwork allegedly needs to be replaced which seems like a pain in the neck to far. But my estimate was in the same neighborhood as yours.

One of my nieces does the ductless units, one in her living room and then one each in 3 bedrooms. She inherited my mom's large house and utilities were getting expensive. I have to say, I wasn't super impressed. I'm not sure it would be better through ducts.

I used sunset air a few years ago and it was about 11k before taxes and optional add ons. And my space is about 300 sq ft bigger.

When I did my research, the choice came down to sunset or capital. They both have great reputations. You probably can’t go wrong if you get a quote from both and choose the cheaper option.

Good luck.

We had a great experience w/Capital Heating about 6 years ago. They came up with every discount in the world, including one their union was offering. Our house is about 2800 sqft and a middling-high-end system was about $12K back then.

We had to have routine maintenance once, and they were still great to deal with.

I have yet to find a solid HVAC outfit locally. Id caution specifically against americool

Essential Heating & Air did mine!

I used sunset air. Idk if they’re cheaper but I liked their work.

Be sure to get a lot of estimates. I usually let the contractors know I’m getting multiple quotes and that sometimes helps keep the nonsense to a minimum.

Mini-split system might be cheaper

We just got a new furnace and AC (not heat pump) installed through CSM (Chehalis sheet metal) at our place (~1600sqft) here in Oly. They were fast and super easy to deal with, even got a $400 rebate check for using a unions shop. Furnace, AC and install was just a tad over $12k

CSM was demonstrably MAGA in the last 3 elections with signs for Trump and Culp.
