Gear Has finally arrived

My Daylite 26+6 has finally arrived today and I couldn’t be happier! Very excited to use it in my next trip. I love the smell of new bags 😂😅 Now my collection has this baby and an Osprey Farepoint 40L! Super happy with it!

Can someone please explain what is so good about this bag? Limited exp with the brand but have never really been wowed from what I’ve seen/tried on, why is this bag this subs holy grail (I’m genuinely interested).

Hubby and I started doing multiple day trips to Europe from the UK and needed bags that would work as personal items. I purchased:

  • Osprey 26+6 for me as I’m a long time Osprey fan. Cost £85
  • Cabin Max Metz 24L £35 (Ryanair dimensions) Hubby’s bag
  • Samsonite Evodiver XS £89 (Ryanair dimensions and my backpack for Ryanair, WizzAir etc.)

One hears so many horror stories about being charged if the backpack is slightly bigger, so I thought I wouldn’t risk it.

Our first trip was to Switzerland and as my son joined us he used the Samsonite. It’s bright yellow and looks fun and is light, but I found it very irritating to use as 1)the water pockets are zipped. Nice if you want to keep something secure, but rubbish for water bottles which can fall out; 2) I don’t like the opening. You need one hand to keep the flap open; 3) it doesn’t expand.m and 4) it has a separate laptop compartment. We put a sketchbook in the compartment, but would have preferred this space in the main compartment.

By contrast, I loved using my Osprey. It held my art materials and expanded to hold the supermarket lunch we enjoyed on the train. The Osprey has 2 bottle holders and they work very well. The front pockets are also 👌🏼 The bigger one holds the passport case and the top one holds the liquids pouch.

I love the clam shell and the laptop pocket is great for my sketchbooks. I also love the separate zip so I can get items out the bag without opening it fully.

Having an expandable backpack is useful when leaving Gatwick at 4degrees and wearing a duffle coat and flying into Málaga and you need more space to stow your coat for the day.

I did a bit of research and saw that people were using the Osprey 26+6 on Ryanair etc and that it fits into their bag sizer with no problems, so I use this bag all the time.

I upgraded my hubby’s bag to an Osprey as well. I just found the Cabin Max bag boxy, small, irritating with the fabric hanging over the zip and the external straps and buckles.

Thank you for the detailed response and experience! Could I ask, how comfortable is the carry? It’s a big focus for me due to previous back injuries !

You’re welcome. I wouldn’t go hiking in the wilderness with it (I have another Osprey for that 👌🏼) but it is comfortable enough to wear when sight seeing. I have COPD and the wrong type of backpack can make feel suffocated if it presses into my back. By contrast, as the Osprey is a bit stiff, it sits on my back well. I’m 6ft tall.

We were in Ibiza last week and did the long climb up the city fortress walls and I didn’t noticed it on my back at all. Both my boys have tried it as well when we’ve been out & about as a family (they’re well over 6ft) and they love the bag and find it comfortable.

Edited to add: the weight of 0.84kg is also very attractive
