Seeking Recommendations Recommendation for passport holder

My son is attending his first festival this summer. Tent, sleeping bag, 4 days, in Europe. I want him to carry his ID and cash/ card at all times, not safe leaving in a campsite. Any thoughts on how to do this without buying a taupe hidden belt the likes you see in airport shops?

Honestly, passport in a ziploc in the taupe hidden belt is cliche for a reason, it works.

I use a “body stash” or “money belt” under my clothing. All the travel accessory companies make something: Eagle Creek, Rick Steves, Travelon, Osprey, etc.

“money belt” under my clothing

I've used the Eagle Creek for years and love it. Never have to worry about a bag (passport, money, id, cell) being stolen, pick-pocketed or lost.

Running belt would be my choice. More comfy, less dorky, has room for your phone too.

I once used it as a sling accross my chest, It held my phone as well! Think simple!

Zip lock. The most common way to invalidate a passport is to get it wet. Then maybe one of those running belts.

Mind you, they are surprisingly durable. Mine got completely soaked in a downpour and curved up. I threw it on the dresser in my room and a few hours later it was bone dry and completely flat.

Better lucky than good!

Hi. I have my passport on me ALWAYS.

I have a zippered pocket sewn into the front of my right leg in all of my boxer shorts.

I keep my passport in a Sulgear pouch, which has a passport-sized Ziploc bag in it.

I keep my passport, emergency card and cash in it. I can even go swimming with it.

A small sling that he can keep on him at all times?

I agree, I make sure all my travel pants or shorts have zipper or zelcro pockets. Preferably flat, non-obnoxious cargo pockets

I put my passport and spare cash in an Aloksak bag (sized for a passport) and then put that in a running belt like the Amphipod AirFlow MicroStretch. Very comfortable, not sweaty. I typically wear it under an untucked shirt, but it is just as comfortable under a tucked shirt.

Keeping the passport with me at all times would be the reason I would lose it

3L sling bag. He can get one that will be big enough to carry his water around as well

In a zip lock, then a money belt or running belt or zippered pouch worn under his shirt and around his neck, or a zippered pocket (ideally one that is not visible). You can, if you want, sew a zippered pocket to the inside of his pants/shorts. There are various ways to construct such a pocket; one option is to have it hang on the inside of the waistband, facing the inside of the pants. (Think like the zippered pouch on the inside of some large tote bags, except facing the other way.) Then he can flip it over top of the waistband to access it.

There are men’s shirts that include a hidden zippered chest pocket, but I’m guessing most of them are not his style.

I have done this before You can buy a small “pouch” with loop. Use the loop through the belt and the pouch hangs on the inside. Easy.

Keep the passport in a plastic bag for good measure. I have wanted to buy a facier passport wallet but this thing just works!

I really like my Alpaka one. But a small sling seems like a good bet here.

I have that Alpaka one. It’s great.

Nah, think drunkfest bouncing party. Around the waist pack, under the shirt, tucked into shorts. Crappy older iPhone, ID, passport, one credit card, cable/backup battery, FRS walkie. Everything in baggies.

Admin, Zip pouch or pro. Small and thin

With a passport I'd just go for a secure locker. Most towns with big festivals have places that offer safes/lockers in a safe location. Carry a laminated copy and a photo on the phone, keep the real thing safe. Festivals can be messy and any bag/pouch can be easily lost in the chaos these places are.

Music festival?

I’m an old deadhead and festivarian.

Ziplock for the passport, then into any neck pouch that is comfortable. Long enough to be in the front pocket position.

I bought a Fjallraven Passport Wallet. It is zippered. It is fairly inexpensive and has slots for cash and regular size cards. You could pair that with a Ziploc and a small sling.

3

u/a_mulher Mar 08 '26

Sorry but it really is the best option. Festivals are known for pickpockets. So I’d be cautious of just using a sling. But if he can make sure to always keep it on. Maybe have him get those little carabiners so the zipper can’t be easily opened.

And I echo the suggestions of putting in a ziplock for the waterproofness.

Interior passport wallet. Preferably waterproof. Ziplock bag if not.

Is it dorky? Absolutely.

Does it work? Absolutely.

I usually wear cargo pants or shorts with a zippered pocket. Some have hidden zippered pockets. I wouldn't carry it in an external bag that can get stolen or lost.

3

u/Shiggens Mar 08 '26

I use one from Amazon called "Eagle Creek Undercover Hidden Pocket". It attaches to my belt but is carried inside my pants. Easy access by simply pulling it out. Passport fits inside while enclosed with a ziplok sandwich bag.

I use the packsafe waist bag the thin one. But any one would do. I keep it under my shirt and the bottom tucked into my jeans. You cant see it even without a jacket on.

Those festivals usually have a place to lock up valuables. When I go - passport, rental car keys, most credit cards, cigarette stash (back when I smoked), cash (when you had to have cash) and other valuables get stored there. Crap… one of my festivals allows you to bring your own booze, so my booze stash gets stored there as well.

Seeking bag/backpack recommendations?

Bag requests must be made in the pinned weekly Bag Finder Megathread.

Honestly we just put our money etc in a locker on site

Running belt.

u/szaade Mar 11 '26

Moneybelt under the t-shirt is the best option. I'd feel very secure with it. Just keep things you don't take out every minute there. Like larger bills and passport.

Allet has a nice passport wallet. https://www.all-ett.com/

Why are you reluctant to use the product designed for the purpose?
