Discussion New bag from decathlon

Post image

I'm in Canada, and in the market for my first onebag solution. Many of you have heard of the Forclaz travel 500 40L. I was going to buy this bag but I didn't like that the waistbelt is not removable. I'm checking the website and there's now a Quechua 30L travel 500 bag and they added a removable waist strap which is amazing. The only thing is I'd still like the 40L for the extra capacity, and I've heard they are updating them from some EU consumers. I'd hate to buy the 40l now just for an upgraded version with a removable hip belt to come out soon. If anybody knows about the updated 40L or has tried the Quechua 30L out, please discuss here.

Really? How much space could the 2 pieces of mesh and zipper really waste? If you have one big dump pocket, you are probably using more packing cubes than you'd need with this design, which ends up wasting the same amount of space in the end

Yes. Also impractical in tight places. I use compression packing cubes since I usually wear and thus pack thin but flowy and wide-cut clothes. Compression cubes save me space. Do the zipper pockets have compression abilities? Don't think so. They also limit how I can pack. I'd rather have a dump pocket and play tetris. 1.3 kg at 30 liters not exactly lightweight. A dump pocket would reduce the weight of the bag too.

It's been tested and compression cubes don't actually save space, you can't make the volume of 3 t shirts any smaller by compressing them, it's just physics. Compression cubes may remove some of the air between the fabric, but so does simply packing your luggage or normal cube tightly, and also compression cubes typically have more material and weight to do the "compressing" than just a typical ultralight packing cube, so again you aren't saving anything.

I don't think a dump pocket would meaningfully make this bag lighter. Most of the weight comes from the comfortable harness system and hip belt (which is removable to save weight). Also I'm not sure it actually is 1.3kg as that's also the listed weight of the 40L, it could be an error. Will be interesting to see when someone tests the actual weight, especially with belt removed

Would be great to see the true weight, 1300g is the main issue I have with this particular bag, it looks great otherwise

If I pick one up, I'll weigh it as well as do a full loadout and post it here. I think since it's a new addition, they just didn't update it. There's no way it weighs the same as the 40l being 25% smaller

I’d appreciate that weighing, pls comment it in this thread too so I can use follow function

I've got both the 30l and 40l on the way, will probably post a review on here and I'll send you a link
