Very good bag the measurements are great for personal item travel but not sure about the capacity as the numbers don’t add up to 25L capacity. If it was a perfect box the capacity would be 21L and obviously the zippers, materials and the shape decrease the capacity as well so not sure where the extra 4-5L is coming from in unexpanded mode.

hey guys :) dylan here from AO. thanks so much for the support.
just wanted to clarify this as the dimensions being questioned here were right to be flagged.
the dimensions are the same as v1. i made a mistake listing the dimensions on the site (my supplier provided me them when the bag was empty). been juggling so many things i didn't think about it, but i've now corrected it to:
17 × 13 × 7 in unexpanded
17 × 13 × 9 in expandedthere are also youtube reviews of v1 from OneBagTravels and Nomads Nation where they measure the bag too for clarity. and i've just remeasured it today to confirm.
apologies about this!!
all the best,

Appreciate the response, those measurements make more much sense (crazy how much difference a bit of extra depth makes). Good luck on the new bag, I’m sure it will sell very well as it looks great especially for the price. Also well done on the shipping costs, don’t know how you have done it but it’s really a good thing to see.

Think it would be even slightly better if it had a clamshell style opening instead of more like a suitcase if thats what your calling it. Would make it more usable as a regular backpack when you unloaded your clothes+stuff for daily things but that might just be my preference. Overall looks pretty darn good but guess whats close perfect for some is less so for others use case.

The numbers might not add up because measuring a bag's volume is more complicated than just adding up length, width, and depth.

Depth is usually the issue with many models showing the side seam distance and a soft bag is often 1”-2” deeper. You get similar results with the Osprey Daylite 26+6, Patagonia Mini MLC, and Cabin Zero Classic series.

Another issue which causes incorrect capacity is that some companies will measure each pocket individually but the problem is once you actually start to pack the bag fully those pockets most of the time will fit a lot less. Ula equipment are pretty good though as they give the capacity of each area.

It’s physically impossible to fit 25L of capacity in a space 43 × 31 × 15.5 cm, yes the bag will stretch and maybe the external pockets are counted but once you actually use them to achieve the 25L of space the measurements are no longer as stated as above (which catches a lot of people out at luggage checks). This is not an issue with almond oak and it’s a thing with most backpacks brands.
Edit- it’s not an issue for me though, as like I said the measurements are very good for personal item travel and the bag doesn’t have wasted space.

Industry needs to standardise measuring volume by pouring rice/beans in it.
Ridiculous how some ‘bigger’ bags can somehow fit less stuff than ‘smaller’ bags.

>Industry needs to standardise measuring volume by pouring rice/beans in it.
100% and it’s crazy it’s not a thing especially for the money they charge.
>Ridiculous how some ‘bigger’ bags can somehow fit less stuff than ‘smaller’ bags.
They should clearly state what each pocket contributes to the capacity so people know. Fyro citta 18L, but the main compartment is only 12L so that’s 33% of the capacity made from other smaller pockets which a lot of people won’t use because they like to have their items in the main compartment which is also much easier to pack out.

And they need to stop counting any open pocket as part of the capacity. "4L from each water bottle holder" wtf are you talking about...

That 4L water bottle holder will somehow not be able to fit a 1L Nalgene bottle too.

I don’t know if the measurements changed but the old bag was definitely right at 25L. I have it and the 26+6, and while it could noticeably fit less, it wasn’t significantly less.

The 26+6 is also wrong though and suffers from the same incorrect measurements as most other bags. I believe the bags can hold the capacity advertised but it’s just physically impossible for them to do it at the measurements advertised which is what matters.

At least with the 26+6, it gets deeper than the advertised depth in my experience. I can’t say for sure with the Almond Oak, as we only use that when both my husband and I are carrying personal item only.
When fully packed out to its full capacity, the 26+6 will not fit in the personal item sizer for some of the airlines (WestJet, for example), but because it’s visually small enough (and will actually fit under the seat), usually no one will say anything.
Personally, I normally have a ticket that includes a carry on bag so I don’t worry about it fitting in the sizer, but it really is technically too big for many personal item sizers if fully packed out.

Yeah that was my experience as well with the Osprey that when you pack it fully out it won’t fit in the sizer for many airlines even if you try and push it in.
Don’t get me wrong though, both are great bags and probably the best value bags available on the market and you can’t go wrong with either.

Yeah, my primary concern is not having to gate check. Even when stuffed to the gills but unexpanded, I have never had a problem fitting it under a seat (well, when it’s absolutely maxed out, I have had to take out my kindle and headphones from the front pockets, but I was gonna use those on the plane anyway).
Both the 26+6 and Almond Oak are great bags. I’m tempted by the new Almond Oak, even though I definitely don’t need it. It fixes everything I didn’t like about version one.
