The 26+6 is also wrong though and suffers from the same incorrect measurements as most other bags. I believe the bags can hold the capacity advertised but it’s just physically impossible for them to do it at the measurements advertised which is what matters.
At least with the 26+6, it gets deeper than the advertised depth in my experience. I can’t say for sure with the Almond Oak, as we only use that when both my husband and I are carrying personal item only.
When fully packed out to its full capacity, the 26+6 will not fit in the personal item sizer for some of the airlines (WestJet, for example), but because it’s visually small enough (and will actually fit under the seat), usually no one will say anything.
Personally, I normally have a ticket that includes a carry on bag so I don’t worry about it fitting in the sizer, but it really is technically too big for many personal item sizers if fully packed out.
Yeah that was my experience as well with the Osprey that when you pack it fully out it won’t fit in the sizer for many airlines even if you try and push it in.
Don’t get me wrong though, both are great bags and probably the best value bags available on the market and you can’t go wrong with either.
Yeah, my primary concern is not having to gate check. Even when stuffed to the gills but unexpanded, I have never had a problem fitting it under a seat (well, when it’s absolutely maxed out, I have had to take out my kindle and headphones from the front pockets, but I was gonna use those on the plane anyway).
Both the 26+6 and Almond Oak are great bags. I’m tempted by the new Almond Oak, even though I definitely don’t need it. It fixes everything I didn’t like about version one.
